I had the Golubstky(stuffed cabbage with ground meat and rice). It’s nothing impressive, but it’s a tasty, simple meal that is mild in flavors and would serve as a good every day meal. The service was severely slow for ordering, getting food, and for paying despite sitting at the table closest to the kitchen and cash register. When we did have the attention of the server, however, the service made our dining experience quite entertaining. He kept egging our group to order vodka. One of us ended up ordering vodka, but the drink was so potently strong, it got passed around to all of us to finish. Our server was hilariously disappointed in us but it was all in good fun.

Awesome food, tasty booze. We had chicken and lamb shashlyks which were perfectly marinated and cooked. Delicious horseradish infused vodka. Friendly service. Five star experience!

Borsch, Dumplings, Vareniki, Pickled cucumbers, Mors — everything was pretty good. It’s not the most romantic place, but the food is great

Great place for Russian and Ukrainian food. Cold appetizers are various and delicious. The menu is a most vast one out of all the Russian restaurants that I visited. The food is delicious. Their pickled stuff is great!!! Got here at 4 pm on Sunday, and there were two tables vacant. At 5 there were no tables. They take reservations. Have a huge Russian Deli shop(do not sell Russian medications), convenient 25 or so spots parking space, and a constantly singing and laughing chef. Definitely coming back!!!

This place is scrumptious. They have great caviar & blini’s but the best menu items are the Cubano salad & mouthwatering Vareniki(meat dumplings). I’ve often seen Ben Kingsley drinking Vodka with men here. He’s super yummy too!

Well. I am still sitting here when I am writing this. Food, environment, service. All great. It’s 5 mins far from my home but I haven’t try any Russian cousin. It’s really good.

So, I’m a Russian. I don’t say that as a good thing or a bad thing, but just to make clear that I know Russian food more than I care to admit. And this place is the real deal. It’s hard to get Russian food at a restaurant that isn’t also a nightclub /banquet hall. The ambiance of most Russian restaurants is so overbearing that it discourages most people from going. There aren’t that many Russian restaurants that will allow you to walk in and order from the menu like any other restaurant. This place is totally accessible to any old shmo who wants a good, authentic Russian meal. The food is truly fantastic. I recently brought my parents there, who are very particular, and they both gave a thumbs up! I’ve also brought many Americans, and everyone loves it, despite its authentic nature. It’s also reasonably priced compared to its more trendy competitors. Three thumbs up, if I had three thumbs.

This place makes me wish that I lived in L.A. Really. I loved the authenticity of the environment, firstly. I noticed that we were surrounded by Russians and Ukrainians. I ordered an exquisite bowl of hot Borscht, that was accompanied by a piece of dark bread toasted with an amazing cheese on it. I can’t tell you what sort of cheese it was, I wish I knew. We ordered a salad that was primarily comprised of cucumbers, tomatoes and dill. And my husband ordered a vodka that had horseradish that(he won’t like me telling you this) made him cry. He said that it was horrible and wonderful at the same time. I really liked the service, there was pride and love in the environment. I am coming back here next time I am in the area. Love, love, loved it.

I am a huge fan of Veselka in NYC. I have been craving borscht for months. Looks like I found a right place for borscht. I usually associate eating borscht with cold winter nights in NYC, but it was pretty delicious here! I thought their dumplings were just okay though. I ordered a shot of their cranberry vodka. It was good, but it was very strong!!! I don’t know how people down it so easily. I had to small sips to finish the shot. I will come back when I crave borscht again.

I have been to Traktir multiple times, and I just love it here! The food is great if you are into Russian/Ukrainian food! I have tried different orders every time and all of were delicious! One thing, however, bothered me(kinda since I had guests with me) last time I was here. It was the costumer service. I think they need a little improvement there. Other than that, the food is still GREAT! And I AMDEFINITELYCOMINGBACK:)

My first experience of Russian food, so i have no idea if it is the way it should be. I just know the food is delicious and services is great. I let my waiter, Dmitri, choose the foods and his choices were awesome.

Second time here and the food was even better. The borscht was excellent and baked sea bass was perfect. Also ordered the red caviar for the first time. It wasn’t too fishy tasting but not my thing. Which is good because caviar is expensive. As always the bread and vodka shots are great.

My friend and I have been planning on trying this Russian place for a while and I would definitely recommend! We came around 7:30 and were seated in their outdoor patio. The restaurant was pretty packed already, even on a Wednesday night. The waitress was really helpful with her recommendations. We ordered the borscht, the vareniki trio, and the chicken tabaka. The borscht was very sweet and flavorful and the beef pieces were tender. Great way to start off the meal. The vareniki trio(15, 5 each) consists of potato, meat, and mushroom. These small dumplings come with this AMAZING mushroom sauce and fried onions. DEFINITELY would recommend the potato and mushroom ones. I couldn’t believe how flavorful and filling these little guys were. The chicken tabaka is a Cornish hen served with these super tasty fingerling potatoes and salad. It was really well seasoned. The only downfall about this place was the fact that we had to wait about 35 – 40 min between the vareniki and the chicken. Maybe it was because we were in the corner or because the two waitresses were busy taking care of larger parties. The wait got a little ridiculous but once we got our food, we really couldn’t complain! Definitely would recommend if you’re looking for something different to eat. We were really impressed with the diverse array of flavors of all the dishes.

Sometimes you need a QUICKESCAPE from Hollywood, much like the ones portrayed in the movies… Well, if you don’t have visual effects & the magic of editing at your disposal, just head on over to this restaurant! When my friend and I set foot in this dining establishment, GONE were the Hollywood stereotypes, hipsters, sex shops, and loud ass traffic… Instead we were surrounded by Russian décor, smells, people and vodka! So excited to chow down, our server noticed… We told him we were Russian virgins so he brought us a homemade vodka sampling ONTHEHOUSE! I’m not a drinker but I had to try it to see what exactly he was regaling over… The Horseradish vodka tastes like SUSHI! Ah ha. Sounds odd but sushi is my favorite cuisine so I’m all about getting drunk off this. The Raspberry vodka was amazing too! A great chaser? Vodka on vodka? Hey, when in «Russia» right? Honestly, if the food tasted awful I probably still would have given this restaurant 3 or 4 stars because the service was great and for that brief hour, all thoughts about LA disintegrated… Alas, THEFOODWASDYNAMITE! Explosions of delicious! The beef my friend got was outstandingly succulent, so juicy… Paired with wicked good potatoes and a homemade ketchup… And my pan fried Bronzino, yeah baby! I’m about to buy a one-way ticket to Russia… Clearly this is a MUSTTRY restaurant, and hey, BONUS: there is FREEPARKING next door! Talk about an oasis in Hollywood! The only reason why I didn’t give it the full 5 stars? Because the food is a bit expensive so I won’t be making this place a weekly staple… Maybe a monthly one, especially if the vodka continues to be on the house! ;)

You know you’ve hit an authentic restaurant when you walk in and don’t hear english. At Traktir, you can enjoy some bona fide Russian food and ambiance right on the corner of Santa Monica and Crescent Heights. Portions are small, so it might make sense to order a bunch of dishes and share them amongst your friends. Pro Tip: They have a slew of flavor infused vodkas that pair well with the hearty food you’ll undoubtably be ordering. My favorite was the Horseradish Vodka. This is the place to start at if you want to drink while you eat before you hit the West Hollywood strip. Price range is around $ 20 — $ 30, and you can BYOB if you’d like.
