Wes Wheadon, OD

I have been a patient of Dr. Wheadon’s for many years now and I am so happy I found him. He was referred to me with the statement, «If Dr. Wheadon can’t help you, no one can». How true that is! I have referred him to many others telling them the very same thing. He is the best Doctor I have ever met. He is incredibly knowledgable and a joy to see. He will take the time to get you the best results possible and he really listens and is concerned. He has figured out problems I had when no one else could, due to medication I was given by my general doctor, who didn’t have a clue. When I first went to him, many years ago, three other optometrists were unable to give me clear vision but he did. He is known though out the city as the go to eye doctor and has worked with many happy patients over the years. His staff is the best as well. I look forward to seeing all of them when I have an appointment. Deah, his receptionist, is great at getting you in and helping you as well. I can’t recommend this Doctor and his staff enough. They are the best ever!

I went into this location tonight just for a quick look at some glasses that I’m intersted in, and possibly make an eye oppointment. When I walked in the guy asked what I needed and looked at his watch. I kindly asked are you closing, he responded «yes in 6 minutes», it was actually 10 minutes because I looked at my watch. I said would you like me to leave, and he responds «no its ok to look around, but that’s why we dim the lights so noone comes in.» Well I thought that was extremely rude considering I could be a paying customer, and referral source. So I walked out. Never going back there again or referring any client’s there.

As for dr Wheadon — great guy and terrific dr. I have been a patient of his for a few years. However, like a few of the other posters, I find the staff a bit of a challenge and sometimes rude.
More importantly very little about this business is designed with the patient/​customer in mind. They are only open four days a week. When they are open they close from 12.30−1.30 for lunch… and they close at 5.30. This includes eye appointments AND picking up your glasses.
So good luck if you work regular biz hours or work out of the neighborhood. I work in Burbank.
There are also strict signs all over the retail shop and lobby forbidding cell phone use. Again not very helpful to people who are most likely in the middle of their work day. The exam room I understand but come into the 21^st century guys and relax a little.
Recommendations for a new eye doc???

I’m new to the area so I’m in search of a new optometrist and saw that Dr Wheadon had great reviews. I called to make an appointment but the woman who answered was so rude and kept repeating herself instead of answering my question that I decided to go elsewhere. Definitely not the type of service I would pay for.

Excellent caregiver. He was able to identify several issues and so they can be corrected. I feel I am in the best hands! Looking forward to the future with him and corrected vision.

I am a dentist and tennis player. As such, my distance and near vision are both very important to me. Having a history of a detached retina with subsequent cataract surgery, astigmatism and keratoconus, my ophthalmologist was at a loss as to how to correct my vision.
He referred me to Dr. Wheadon.
After trying numerous types of lenses and spending over 10 visits (my case was very complicated), we finally found one that gave me the comfort that i needed as well as vision that was far superior to what I had prior to the 3 eye surgeries.
I cannot recommend Dr. Wheadon highly enough for those people who have difficulty in achieving good vision as well as for those who want to be sure their eyes are being taken care of.
My quality of life has improved tremendously with the help I received. There is no substitute for good vision.
I have also referred one of my dental colleagues to see Dr. Wheadon and his vision problems were solved as well.

I highly recommend and stand behind Dr. Wheadon’s service as he has saved me money, time and from excruciating eye pain.
I went in this past Wednesday as there was something underneath my eye ball causing irritation and what became extreme discomfort. I did not have an appointment but I explained what the situation was and they agreed to see me immediately. I waited less than 10 minutes, the doctor put my through a quick eye exam, saw that there was a hair growing inside my eyelid and promptly removed what he thought was most of it.
The pain was gone but soon returned the next day when the hair protruded out once again. I called the doctors emergency cell # and he dropped what he was doing (ice skating practice) and came to the office to meet me in under and hour. He had arranged an ophthalmologist appointment for free if this second treatment didn’t work and thankfully it did. It was less swollen the second day so he was able to get the entire hair follicle out. He gave me numbing drops and a soft gel contact to help heal the eye overnight.
He even called the next day to make sure I was okay.
All of this service cost me a very minimal fee (only for the first day) and I’m submitting to insurance to cover. Amazing attention to detail and care.

Dr. Wheadon and his staff are just amazing! They are all very sweet.
They’re very friendly and helpful. I love them!
He is super considerate; it’s rare from any doctor.
He has several suggestions for various issues and helps you to understand and choose the best that suits your needs and budget.
They have a good choice of frames and if they don’t have one you like, they can order something for you within 2 weeks.
My husband actually switched from another doctor and now he also sees Dr. Wheadon and we’re both very happy with the service we’re getting here.
Naturally, it helps that he accepts our vision coverage, so we actually can save lots of money by seeing him.
We couldn’t recommend a better eye doctor.

Dr. Wheadon is uniquely amazing. Regardless of my concern; contacts, eye infection other, Dr. Wheadon always comes up with a solution and always makes time to see me. I couldn’t be more pleased. His experience is obvious. I hope he never retires — really really good doctors are rare. Dr. Wheadon is one of those rare finds.

We have done business with Dr. Wheadon since 2007. Every experience has been very professional and we deal with Dr. Wheadon directly which makes every experience even better. I appreciate and highly recommend Dr. Wes Wheadon.

I’ve been going to Dr. Wheadon for most of my adult life. I hadn’t been recently due to my own health issues. Upon returning for a checkup, I was reminded why Dr. Wheadon is so special. He takes one’s total health and family history into consideration. I can honestly say that he’s the most kind and thorough doctor I’ve had the honor to visit. He’s interested in the overall health of his patients, and provides information in an accessible manner that is never condescending. Dr. Wheadon and his incredible staff work with such grace and compassion.

This is a completely unbiased review. I moved from NY to Los Angeles 6 weeks ago. I’ve been to the top rated contact specialist in NY but still was having trouble finding contacts that were right for me. I can honestly say that going to him was the best thing I could have done. On my first phone call to his office, I was able to get him on the line and we had a 10 minute conversation about my situation and he gave several options we could try. I saw him the next day and his first option was better than anything I had in the past, although we decided to also try gas permeables which I just got back home with. Two days ago, I poked my eye and was scared I scratched my cornea. I called Dr. Wes on his day off and he called me back immediately and told me how to proceed. My eye was better in 4 hours and today I saw him to pick up my new lenses and for him to check my eye. I believe his fees are very competitive and he has been extremely fair with me. Not only is he absolutely knowledgable, but he’s a super nice and caring man, and his list of famous people that he has worked with, is quite impressive. I also found Deah and George to be very helpful and nice. I thoroughly recommend you go to Dr. Wes.

For what it’s worth: I am not a fan.
I went to him a while back because my ophthalmologist recommended him to me because I was having eye troubles due to poorly fitting contacts and she said he was contact fit specialist for those of us who have weird shaped eyes.
I went in for the contact fitting, but in order for me to get my glasses prescription, he was going to charge me something like double the fee – even though giving me the prescription would be no more additional work than simply writing it on a pad of paper!
I’ve never gone to an optometrist who works this way. Usually, the contacts fitting exam is a higher price than a glasses-​only exam and the prescription is included in that fee since they have to get your prescription anyway. It was actually cheaper for me to go to a Lens Crafter optometrist and get my glasses prescription separately, so that’s what I did.
Then, he fitted me. I told him I had reservations about the fit of the lenses he gave me, but he said they were a new design that I’d have to get used to. He recommended I try them out for a few days and come back. Seemed reasonable, so I did. Sure enough, they weren’t right, so I went back to try something else.
This is where it gets kinda shady. When I went back, HE CHARGED ME A SECOND FITTING FEE.
In the 20 years I’ve been wearing contacts, I have never in my life been charged TWICE, even if the first pair doesn’t work. I was so taken aback, I didn’t say anything. I wish I had refused the second fee and left.
And to make matters worse, in the end, I’m pretty sure he gave me the wrong prescription – for the original, ill-​fitting contacts. The contacts I ended up ordering based on the prescription were totally off and never really fit me. After a few months of wearing uncomfortable contacts, I gave up and returned them to 1800Contacts. Thank God for their return policy! I didn’t trust Dr. Wheadon enough to fix the problem, so I just went elsewhere.

I totally agree with «Consumer A». I’ve been going here for years and love Dr Wheadon but his receptionist is almost enough to stop me from returning. I absolutely dread having to call and make an appointment with her. One of the singularly most unpleasant people I have ever encountered.

I enjoy going to this optometrist very much. I feel welcomed when I go there. Dr. Wes is knowledgeable, thoughtful with patients, and explains in detail issues with your eyes so that you are informed. Deah and George have always been helpful, professional, and friendly folks who kept me updated on my contact orders. I do wish that the prices were just a bit lower, but they are good, nice, friendly, and a group that I trust: and that’s hard to find! Worth the extra money that goes over my vision insurance allowance.

Dr. Wheadon was my optometrist for almost 7 years (I recently moved out of town). He is very good and friendly. I always feel that I am getting professional, high quality service from him. He also spends a lot of time getting to know and speaking with his patients. I read the one review about Deah. I actually kinda of like her personality and don’t find it to be a problem. Her personality may not be for everyone, but I have been very satisfied with the service I have received from both Dr. Wheadon and his staff. I have recommended him to several of my friends (not sure if they followed up though).

Wes has been my go-​to eye doc for many years. He’s terrific. It’s always fun to go to the office and look at the great selection of glasses. But best of all, he makes me see!
