Ashe Retro Toys

Great little store on the main drag in West Jefferson. It’s chock full of retro toys from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s (good grief, is the 1980’s really retro? I guess so — I’m getting old — was in a bar the other day and the bee-​bopping 20 something’s didn’t even know who Chrissie Hynde and Ray Davies were — whaaaaattt?)
Anyway, we found the gopher from Caddyshack — sings «I’m All Right». Good condition — only $ 10. We also found a Barbie vintage camper from 1970 — also in good condition and $ 10. My nine year old daughter was tickled pink!
The guy working here is a hoot. He rides a unicycle around in the store and he knows his retro toys. Lots of fun to talk to on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
I couldn’t take my eyes of the Laverne and Shirley board game. Always thought Shirley was cute growing up — didn’t realize that she had a bowl cut and she was pretty plain jane. Maybe I’m confusing Shirley with Carmine. Now he was something! Although I saw a mug shot of him recently and it was right out of the Nick Nolte and Gary Busey vein — wha’happened to Carmine?
