First visit last night for dinner. The atmosphere was lively, wait staff was extremely attentive. The food… I ordered the horseradish cheddar burger, but substituted the black bean patty… very tasty. My husband’s sirloin was undercooked, but they prepared a brand new one for him. The manager came over several times to ensure that we were happy. She went above and beyond and we were very pleased. Next time we are in town, we’ll be back!

If you love canned chicken, you will love this place. There aren’t many choices in West Jefferson, but I would not recommend this place for dinner. The menu looks great, there were so many things I wanted to order, but they have not done a good job executing these items. I tried one of their beers and had to send back, which I never do, especially for beer. Everyone at the table tasted it and agreed it was off. Luckily the waitress was very helpful and brought me a different kind of beer that was much better. We started with the nachos, which were just some chips topped with this diced chicken that had to be from a can or precooked somehow. The other toppings were scarce, but we were starving so we ate them anyway. I started with the«homemade» buffalo chicken soup after everyone raved about it on Unilocal.Same canned chicken, very artificial tasting. I could not even eat. I also got the fried okra salad which sounded delicious and different. Nope. Bagged lettuce mix with frozen okra dumped on top of it. The service was fine, and I think since there isn’t much competition in the area and they get a lot of visitors they probably do fine. Our dinner at the Hotel Tavern the following night was much better.

Had a nice meal with friends, beer as always was entertaining while the food was serviceable just not real special. Large crowd slowed down the bar service but that was probably for the better since we were all driving.

I was very impressed in all facets. The beer selection was outstanding including some of their own selections on tap. The team-oriented staff was friendly efficient and attentive. The filet mignon was great — especially for a local place with a wide range of entries. Very reasonably priced and abundant menu entries in different pricing categories. This place was the perfect small-town eatery that could be successful outside of the local area. A+ — would definitely return!

Consistently good and the burgers are GREAT, made with local beef! Great beer selection on tap as well as some of their own craft beer which is made at their brewery down the block. No matter what your tastes are you can not go wrong here for casual dining and hands down the best beer selection in town. I highly recommend the burgers and the pot roast dinner is always one of my wife’s favorites.

Anytime we are in town, we have to visit this place. THe beers on tap are excellent and the food is just as good. We also like the fact that we can bring our dog over to the patio. Try the tuna taco appetizer. It is amazing!

While visiting adorable West Jefferson with family, we popped in here for lunch. This restaurant is a great size and had plenty of tv’s for those of us that wanted to watch college football while dining ;) We started with the pretzel bread and beer dip. Both were delicious and left me wishing we had ordered double. For lunch, I ordered the black bean burger and side salad. Much to my disappointment, the black bean burger was not homemade and tasted very similar to the Morningstar black bean burger. The side salad was large and tasty. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food and our service was excellent.

Finally made it to Boondocks to eat. Been trying to check out some of the local places to eat in West Jefferson. Had a nice experience. Debated between 3 – 4 stars. Would have went with 3 ½ stars but that wasnt an option. Service was excellent. Waitress was great, I cant remember her name but she was fast, friendly and efficient. Burger was ordered medium and came out thick and juicy and cooked to perfection. Wasnt a big fan of the seasonings. Onion rings and mozzarella sticks were average. Because the burger was cooked perfectly and juicy and service was excellent and onion rings and apps were enjoyable, I went with 4 stars. Will definitely go back! I dont drink so the beers and brewery aspect were lost on on me! LOL :))))

This place was a really great place to stop on the way out of town from Lansing! We had been at a wedding all weekend and decided to get lunch ou the way out of town. Great service and friendly staff. When we asked questions about the food or beer our waitress made great suggestions! I had the Cajun chicken sandiwhich and it was yummy! I don’t know what kind of bun it was on but it was so soft but didn’t fall apart. I asked about the baked potato salad and she said it was good! And it was!!! It was like a loaded baked potato but made into potato salad! Dirty deliciouness!!! If you ever get up to West Jefferson you should check it out!!!

We had the most incredible fine dining experience last evening at Boondocks. It was our anniversary and Chef Jared prepared a four course dinner with beer and wine parings. Fresh, local vegetables, local beef tenderloin, and a blueberry sauce from local blueberries. We love this place and recommend it highly.

This place has lots of potential. Nice facility, deck, etc. Menu is good as well(as is the food). I didn’t have the best dining experience tonight. Food was good, but order was wrong and it took a long time. I need to remember to not go there during busy times. They just don’t seem to do as well during the busy times. Not sure what it will take for them to scale ‘up’ to manage the larger crowds??? But, even with this, I think they’ll do well due to the positives I indicated.(Also, it’s one of the neater places in the area) I hope to update this in the future with a 5 star rating.

Some friends and I rented a cabin near West Jefferson and came into town for lunch on a Friday. The place was doing a good lunch business but was able to seat us. Our waitress and the other restaurant staff were certainly doting. We ordered a bowl of sweet potato fries as an appetizer. The bowl was HUGE and the chipotle-ranch was a perfect pair. We devoured them. They had a lunch special running: $ 5 burger. Who could say no? It was a burger with blue cheese and buffalo sauce. I’m dubious on the blue cheese as I couldn’t taste it at all but it was a good sized burger and tasted real good. Everything about the experience was good. I would return next time we are in the area.

We were roadtripping, on our way to a remote cabin in the rare November snowfall up in the woods when we decided to stop here for a bite to eat. We are big fans of craft beers and when we saw Brewing AND Restaurant together, we were already fans. We got seated immediately by our young waitress, Megan, who was very patient with our numerous questions about the fare and the brews. Unfortunately she was TOO young(18) so she didn’t have firsthand knowledge or recommendations, but made an effort to ask someone who did know, and offer samples. The downside was once we made our decisions, it took an extremely long amount of time before we got our beers. I still don’t know what the holdup was back there, but Megan kept coming back to take care of whatever she could. We were on vacation, and everyone was enjoying the early snowfall, so we just laughed off our thirst. When the appetizers came, I wasn’t a huge fan of the garlic, cheesy fries, although the rest of our group ate them up. I DID, however LOVE the beer battered onion rings with rémoulade sauce. Some of the best I’ve ever had. I opted to share plates and from the bites I had here and there, the Bourbon BBQ Chicken Sandwich was hands down the winner. It was so good I don’t even remember what anyone else had. Overall it was a great, cheerful, fun experience.

Taproom in the space once inhabited by the late, much-lamented Fraser’s. The beer selection here is awesome and is the primary reason to come. The service has improved since it first opened. The food has improved too, but still has some distance to go. On a recent trip, I had the chicken, pear and pecan flatbread and the bread was very bland, I could hardly taste any pear and it was covered in too many pecans. But they have an outstanding wing program. There are several different sauces and they are divided into mild, hot and hotter. My favorite is the spicy mango sauce – just the right balance of sweet and spicy. You can get either 6 or 12 and you have your choice of celery and carrots on the side and ranch or bleu cheese for dipping. The bleu cheese served with mine was terrific. Other items tend to be hit and miss – I’ve generally had good luck with salads, though, and had good reports from fellow diners on the steaks. The menu is very big and perhaps things would be more consistent if they pared it back a little. The last couple of times I’ve been, our servers have been right on top of everything, which is an improvement over their first few months of operation. I have a little confusion about the pub space that adjoins the main dining room – it has a long bar(in addition to a bar in the main dining space) and more tables, but recently, it has appeared that there is no bartender working the space and they are just treated as seats? I’m not really sure what the concept for the pub space is. Many nights, they have live music and on my most recent trip, it was a great duo who covered everything from«Tambourine Man» to «Tempted By the Fruit of Another». They were very good and really added to the experience. This is the largest restaurant space in downtown West Jefferson and it can get quite crowded, especially on the weekends. Often there is a wait for a table in the evenings. Boondock’s is perhaps best enjoyed if you level-set your expectations at taproom and just plan to enjoy the brews and wings.
