I had the stuffed poblano(with chicken) pepper, with broccoli and cheese soup, and plantains. Poblano pepper was okay, next time I’ll stick with the Cuban dishes though. Soup was good, and plantains were good. Wife had the pork chunks, and they were good.

We found this place while renting a cabin just outside lovely little West Jefferson North Carolina. By far the most accommodating and lovely owner I have ever met! She and her husband wowed us with their hospitality and food. I do not think I’ve ever felt more welcome in any restaurant in my life. We enjoyed the friendly and outgoing attitude of the staff as much as we enjoyed the wonderful food. We enjoyed it so much we ate there two days in a row. I highly recommend a stop in this quaint and lovely little restaurant. Say hello to the owners and enjoy your experience.

Very good Cuban sandwiches and fried plantains. Portions are large and the prices very reasonable. They also offer Cuban coffee. We tried the chips and salsa as well and found it quite nice. Chunky with just the right amount of cilantro.

As good as it gets, great food, pleasant staff, large portions, and low prices. I eat here a lot and everything is great.

I had to put the Cuban down and share the goodness. The staff is amazing. The food is to die for. Even the sweet tea is perfect. If you’re in the area you’d miss out not to visit!

Nifty little local business on the back street of downtown West Jefferson. It’s just a small storefront with about six tables plus two seats at the counter and a couple of small bistro tables on the very narrow sidewalk outside. Nothing fancy at all, but the main attraction here is the Cuban sandwich. The bread is made daily in house, and it’s outstanding Cuban bread – crunchy on the outside and chewy inside, then layered with the requisite pork, mustard and pickles and pressed flat. It’s an outstanding sandwich and comes with fries, chips or plantains; or, you can substitute rice & beans for $ 1 more. It’s a bargain at $ 7.95 and they also have a junior Cuban for $ 2 less that is still a nice-sized meal. The staff is very friendly, the owner roams the tables to make sure everybody’s happy, and they have a few beers on tap. Definitely worth a stop.

Wonderful service! The food was absolutely amazing! I had the chicken sandwich. It comes on this wonderful, fresh homemade Cuban bread. My boyfriend had the Cuban Sandwich which he loved. The fried plaintiffs were wonderful and I will definitely be going back. Although I did not try any of the specials but I’ve heard that they are amazing and they looked very good.

I have eaten here many times. The food continues to slide in quality and authenticity. There is only 2 good dishes. The Ropa Vieja and I love the Cuban Sandwich w/sweet plantains. Today, I noticed that added Mayo to it. Not sure that was a welcome alteration, but still a good sandwich. What I do not like is they are becoming a low grade Mexican joint. The tortilla chips and fake guacamole were terrible. It would be nice if they added croquetas con jamon to the menu. Instead, they are doing chimichanga and mexican style food.

Large portions for only $ 8 for a platter. Had the ropa vieja, platanos maduros and yuca en mojo. It is very good, have had better(in FLA), but very satisfying. Tasted my daughters black beans and they were nicely seasoned. A nice find just across from the farmers market, especially since I expected to end up eating a sandwich for lunch!

No address listed – is at 109 Backstreet West Jefferson, NC28694 Phone 336−846−2800 Open for Lunch only Tues thru Sat. Chalkboard menu changes daily. Entrees are about $ 7.95. I had the pulled pork with mojo sauce, fried sweet plantains, black beans and rice. Outstanding – more food than I can eat and I am a BIG eater. Wife had the Cuban sandwich which was also excellent. She could only eat half. Friendly service and atmosphere. An unusual find in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
