When I first got to Purdue as a sophomore transfer, I was initially disappointed with the student Union. For one, I envisioned it being much better and containing more recognizable chains. Secondly, it seemed that everything therein was overpriced. But, such as the younger versions of ourselves commonly are, I was stupid. The selection of food outlets is a nice array of different ethnic options. Its not as tacky down there as it would be with six burger joints and a Subway. Thus, I withdraw 19-year-old me’s complaint. Also, I learned that when you’re in college at a major 4-year university, everything except for booze(sometimes) is expensive. So, relative to spending four-plus years here, the Union is actually not that expensive. Essentially, sophomore me was pestilent and ignorant. For, as I am nearing the end of my time at Purdue, the Union has been and will continue to be my favorite study/lunch/snack/break spot on campus. Oops.

the PMU(Purdue Memorial Union) is attached to the Union Club Hotel, where we had to stay for a workshop at Purdue. The hotel is from 1921, I almost expected it to be in black and white :) but the food court is delicious! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, for three days, and I did not get tired of the options! Starbucks, Freshens, Flatbreads, Italian this and that, Mexican that, Pappy Ice Cream, Urban Stop and don’t go ever again :) I loved it. I should tell high schoolers to go to Purdue. Loved the campus, the Engineerings, all of them, the fountains, the clocks. The people most of all — everyone was so nice!

It’s been a loooong time since I’ve been back to my alma mater to visit. It was neat to see all the campus changes. I was especially impressed with the renovations to the Purdue Memorial Union(so if you know when those were done, you’ll have a vague idea of how long I’ve been away). The basement has turned into a large food court with 18 different kinds of merchants that include restaurants, coffee shops, a market, and a newsstand. We ate at the Italian restaurant and it was decent and inexpensive. I wish the Commons was like this when I was attending school here. But then, I would have ended up spending a lot more money than I should have.
