I take ice cream seriously. Silver dipper has all the factors that make a good ice cream shoppe. Funny posters, spacious seatings and a lot of hours to devour ice cream. The sample scoops are $ 0.90 and are great for anyone who does not want to commit to one flavor. They have a dish has 25 different flavors for $ 25.00. I really want to come back to try it with some friends. The price of a single scoop is under $ 3.00 which is not bad for premium ice cream. I was filled up by one scoop, but my main Unilocaler took down two scoops. She seemed quite satisfied. My favorite part about my visit was my exchange with the owner. He is jovial and wants to help everyone find their perfect ice cream pairing for the day. It’s a tough choice to choose which flavor you would like, but sometimes you just got bite the bullet and allow the employees to plunge the silver dipper into greatness(ice cream).

Very respectable ice cream and«creation» options. The servers are a little inconsistent about the size of the scoops, but the ice cream is really outstanding. Price is a bit high for ice cream, but not higher than Cold Stone, and totally worth it given the quality. This is my favorite ice cream place in the area. I only ever come here anymore. Nothing else around Purdue can compare.

4 stars for a stellar selection of delicious ice cream offerings at a fair price. No 5th star because it’s cash/check only. Sometimes, when I have a hankering for ice cream, I don’t check my wallet to make sure there’s cold-hard cash in there… I’m just looking for a sweet treat! Either way, on this last visit, the store manager saw my 4 year old and kindly offered up a matchbox car. He loves it and still talks about it.

Silver Dipper is the kind of place that doesn’t take credit, but still takes checks. This is very strange, but at least every kid gets a toy car with their cone. Oh, and the ice cream rocks. I got a flavor called, I believe, «This is Getting Serious». I think it was called that, but I know it had salted caramel and cashews, which I’m pretty sure were also salted. Put together with a sugar cone, this made for a delightful combination of sugary, creamy and complexly salty. I also tried a strawberry cheesecake, which has real chunks of cheesecake in it, along with fresh fruit. My wife had a very scrumptious mint chocolate chip ice cream cup, with some notably high-quality mint extract. This all set us back roughly $ 8, which is a steal for the quality of the ice cream being sold. It’s a ways off I-65, but Silver Dipper is a winner if you’re looking for fresh ice cream. Just remember to bring cash… or your checkbook.

Heads up this is a cash only place. I walked a mile to get this ice cream because of all the great reviews, and it did not disappoint. The coconut almond bliss came highly recommended and was fantastic! The variety of ice cream made it hard to choose. Unfortunately I am from SC, and the closest state that sells Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream is Florida. I’ll have to look for it next time I am on vacation. Good stuff!

I wouldn’t go here normally but there are no other places to get hard ice-cream cones in Lafayette areas that offer variety of flavors. Hate the fact they don’t accept credit cards, and they are generally rude about it. Like first time visitors do not know the fact they only accept cash.

Very tasty ice cream here at good prices! We had a chocolate cone, a dish of coffee and oreo cookie icecream and a mint chocolate chip cone. All totally creamy and not overly sweet. Only negative is they serve things in styrofoam! Bathrooms are clean and it’s wheelchair accessible.

Excellent ice cream! My family and I visited a few times during our stay in Lafayette. I enjoyed the blueberry cheesecake and yippee skippee flavors.

Great ice cream, the staff isn’t the nicest, and make sure that you know that it’s cash only.

Top four things to know about Silver Dipper: 1. They sell Chocolate Shoppe brand ice cream from Wisconsin, which I have repeatedly called the best ice cream west of State College, PA. 2. The best Chocolate Shoppe flavors are Coconut Almond Bliss and Espresso Almond Fudge. However, at Silver Dipper I tried two new flavors, Zoreo – Zanzibar chocolate, marshallow ripple, chocolate chunks, and Oreos – and This Sh*t Just Got Serious, a salted-caramel, fudge, and cashew extravaganza. Good lord. Put them both on the controlled substances list. 3. The owner has tricked out the shop with a few cool extra touches, such as a collection of vintage and modern ice cream scoops, and a bulletin board full of ice-cream-mentioning comic strips. 4. Did I mention the best ice cream west of the Alleghenies? THEBEST.

Against my better judgment, I condoned a lunch stop in West Lafayette on a recent road trip.(Indiana, our Indiana /Indiana, we’re all for you…) Also against my better judgment, I ate ice cream on a below-freezing day with temperatures in the teens. Was it worth the discomfort? Yep. First of all, Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream is some of the best ice cream you can find, legally. If I am outside the five mile radius of Homer’s, and sure they’ll never hear me, I might call it my favorite. I think Homer’s pulls out the win for peppermint stick, but otherwise, they’re both so, so good. Frowny face for Silver Dipper using Styrofoam cups, though. I tried a sample of a flavor the Chocolate Shoppe web site tells me is new: This $@&! Just Got Serious. TSJGS is a salted caramel ice cream, with salted chocolate strips and salted cashews. And I dug it. When I placed my order for a scoop a minute later, after sampling nothing else, the employee said he knew it and implied that anyone who tasted it loved it. I’d tried to be coy, but yeah. Serious $@&! indeed.
I also tried a bite of Zoreo, which is a magical rich chocolate ice cream with marshmallow ripple, Oreos and chocolate chunks. Then I wrapped my coat around myself tightly and paid the price for my wanton ice cream lust as my internal temperature fought to stay above 96 degrees. Clearly I survived to write this review, and that only taught me that I could do it again. But this kind of ice cream is like birthday food, and I will try to get it out of my head at least until Chicago temps are in the 40s(sometime in May).

Probably the best ice cream in the area. They have a large selection of flavors. No matter what flavor you decide on, you will get a good, creamy ice cream snack that you are sure to enjoy. The staff here is always friendly and don’t get cranky when I taste test a bunch of flavors before deciding on one. My favorite is the butter pecan. It’s pretty darn good. I would highly recommend this place if you’re in the mood for some good ice cream or looking to take your kids out for a treat. My only complaint is that they are cash only.

Ice cream from«Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream»! Super rich Wisconsin awesomeness. It is made with butterfat which makes it taste amazingballs, but at the same time clearly not very healthy(which is why we have frozen yogurt). That’s not a fact they seem to be trying to hide: I remember the Wisconsin store having a huge sign about why they are not healthy(basically, because they are going for taste and quality). I don’t think they have been serving this type of ice cream forever, but I could be wrong. If you haven’t tried it yet it’s definitely worth a try. I usually go with Fat Elvis(love me some banana ice cream), or their dark chocolate ice cream which is decadent. A warning — cash only, so come prepared.

I’m a big time dessert lover and I have a thing for local ice cream shops. Silver dipper has a great variety of flavours and it my fav dessert place in town. Fun place to hang out with a bunch of friends in the evening. I almost always go with the coconut almond bliss and trust me when I say it gets better each time: D. The coffee based flavours are pretty good too.

Remember to bring cash, because this place doesn’t take cards. That aside, this place is amazing. I am perpetually indecisive, and the three scoop sampler is a perfect solution to that. All of their ice cream flavors are great, they are open late for an ice cream shop, and the service is outstanding. The guy who runs the place is a particular favorite, he is hilarious(as long as you can appreciate being teased) and can get pretty much anyone to laugh. I wish I could take this place with me when I graduate.
