The giant orange machine sticking out over the tops of the trees is an amazing site to see. It’s hard to imagine this was mfg so long a go. A great place to have a pick nick with the kids! I’ve been many times and it always a treat for family and friends.

Big brutus and the museum are pretty interesting. Although big brutus has been gutted and you can’t walk around the entire thing, it’s pretty cool and informative. I’d say it’s worth the $ 8 to go in. You get to walk around on it and take pictures, plus it’s quite educational. It’s a self guided tour so you can go at your own pace — another plus. There are other things at the museum besides Big Brutus as well. Would have been awesome to climb the boom, and see the motors, but I understand the monetary and liability issues.

Sorry but Big Brutus was a big bust for me. I was pumped up because Big Brutus is very big. I have driven by this before and heard many stories about it and how cool it was. Everyone told me to be sure and walk up to the top of the boom for the scenic view. I was told there was a $ 2 admission. When we got there I was greeted with an $ 8 admission per person. There was just two of us so I paid the $ 16. Big Brutus is a huge crane. The problem is they have stripped almost everything out of it. The engines are long gone and the inside is little more than the shell. Still I was pumped about going out on the boom for the scenic view. We get to where you would walk out on the boom and they have it locked up with a sign saying you could not go out there anymore do to insurance reasons. This is what was the deal breaker for me. Without being able to walk out on the boom this is simply not worth $ 8 per person. At best it is worth just asking for donations. Save your $ 8 and just take a picture from outside the gate then leave. There certainly isn’t enough stuff worth $ 8 per person to look at inside the gate.

Big Brutus’ visitor’s center. For some reason Kansas has decided it has the 8th wonder of the world– the world’s largest electric crane named Big Brutus. They even made a Big Brutus cookbook. Hows that for milking a gimmick into the ground. I hope to someday visit.
