My husband and I currently live in the Halifax Hall in West New York, NJ. We rent from an owner of the condo. The building had a steam pipe leak which caused damaged to our floors and walls in three rooms. The condo board approved the replacement of the floor. They then only replaced the boards needed to replace the piping in the floor. Not dealing with the damage done to all of the walls and other flooring boards. The bathroom was completely redone and gutted. The job done on the bathroom was awful and was completed using chipped tiles and caulking and grouting is already cracking. When the bathroom was being gutted the workers broke a water pipe resulting in damage to the walls in the bedroom and foyer. The building will now not pay for the repairs. The damage done to the walls is not being repaired either. The workers made a hole in our living room resulting in fracturing in several places in the wall. The building board will not repair this either. So we have fractures and a speckled hole on the wall. The steam pipe buckled our floor up into the wall resulting in cracking on the base of the wall. The building will not repair this wall either. Also, the work estimated at 1 weeks time, took 2 months. The building offered a hotel of 180 dollars — a night — all in(taxes, fees, etc). We turned this down to try to save the building money and moved into a friends vacant apartment. After about a month I requested we get reimbursement for our friends place — at the very least for utilities. We were turned down. I guess this is what you get for trying to help out your building mates. All I can say is my sense of community that I had for the last 5 years in this apartment/condo complex is completely gone. We will be moving from this apartment and would like to deeply caution anyone and everyone to avoid this building like the plague. The management company, the board and the super all grossly mismanaged the repairs and under delivered on everything. Failing to restore the new bathroom to its former look and quality; not repairing items that were caused by the steam leak and not properly finishing the floors that they had even not repaired to what they had promised. The floors sunk down and no longer meet the walls in the foyer and living room. There have now been several instances of pests coming into our apt for the first time in 5 years through the gaps in the floors. Our apartment was given back to us covered in dust and debris. After cleaning four rooms we just decided it was enough and we were moving. Our poor landlord now has to pay to make repairs that they are not responsible for at all. So an update. We moved out from the halifax hall and stopped having to deal with atlantic management. As most people do when they move we sold some of our belongings. The management company tried to fine us for moving out early. All I can say again. Avoid this terrible management company and even worse board members that will continuously screw you over and make sure that only their needs are met. If you are seeking a management company AVOIDATLANTICMANAGEMENTATALLCOST. The Halifax Hall is governed by a horrible group of individuals who are self serving people. They can ride out a hurricane in your apartment, invite you to their christmas party and then not give a rats about you, your belongings or life. Bad people, Bad Building.
