One of the best fish sandwiches around. This is a cool place with a refreshing menu of great food and tasty drinks. Large portions too.

Awesome! Was our first visit and definitely will not be the last. My expectations were not high for the area but I definitely take back anything I thought that I was walking in to. We had chili, broccoli cheese soup, appetizer special called jalapeño Mac and cheese bites(HUGE) a Reuben and a Rachel(turkey Reuben) it was all delicious and I can’t wait to come back. I also had a Manhattan martini!

Place is horrible. I ordered their fish and chips. Three chunks of brokeass frozen fish that tasted years old. Will never return.

Our favorite place on the trail! Do a little biking or jogging get then stop in to fuel up on a great beer selection and food! Lately there has been a waitress there that is useless and doesn’t seem like she wants to be there, and unfortunately we get her sometimes. .but I will not let that stop me from going there and enjoying the outside deck atmosphere! I’m sure they’ll let her go soon…(long black hair)

A great local spot! They have the normal bar staples along with some surprising features to the menu you can’t pass up. Always great beer and atmosphere. A regular stop for my husband and I.

Both times I’ve been here we had to search for an employee to seat us. There never seemed to be anyone out on the floor. Same thing with when it came to needing something at our table, I had to walk to the kitchen to get service because no one ever came back out to check if everything was good or if refills were needed. The food was okay, nothing special. Not a place I would recommend honestly

Overall good food and casual bar atmosphere. Food service is pretty slow. Nice to sit on the deck and listen to bands on summer nights!

Stopped here on a Sunday afternoon. I would say this is a 31⁄2 star place but can’t give ½ star. My Biggest problem was that it was 80+ outside and even though they said they had Air Conditioning you really wouldn’t think so. It was so hot inside that we should have sat outside. Staff was friendly, well at least our waitress was but I did see a few that were just overwhelmed as they were pretty busy, so as expected it took awhile for our food. My other half went to see what the bar had to offer and I suppose it wasn’t much in the micro-brew department, so he went to the 6pak shop on the other side, he found one of our favorites, Bumble Berry by fat heads. Unfortunately, The beer wasn’t that cold. So as we sat in sweltering heat and drank our warm expensive beers… we got to sit there and watch a parade of nasty, sweaty bicycle riders walk back and forth to the restrooms, which we could see from our table… By this time I was really ready to run out… since after seeing some sweaty people in spandex really is an apatite suppressant… But then our food showed up. I had ordered the mushroom swiss burger with fries, and my other half got the fettuccine alfredo. My burger was good and made with real meat, but the fettuccine alfredo was really good, I would go back just for that but maybe in the evening.

Love it! Great to come off the trail and enjoy some pub food and a draft! They carry the local Bloom Brew on tap and a good selection of other beers. I’ve liked everything I’ve had to eat and the servers are always very friendly.

Love it here great service always and the food is always good! It’s bar food but better than the average and they have lots of creative dishes and sauces you can choose from. It’s a perfect place to enjoy some beer and good food easily one of the best places for this price range. I’ll always go back here.

I’ve only eaten once at this restaurant. I was pretty disappointed. The food that I ate, and others in my party, was unremarkable. I had a hamburger which was greasy and lacked flavor. My one friend had a fish fry and he said it sat in his stomach like a «lead balloon.» The worst part about our lunch was how long it took for service. It took over an hour and a half to get out back on the trail and it put us a bit behind. The wait staff was just relatively friendly and they would not take our water bottles and fill them up with ice. They did bring ice in a cup but this policy seems odd to me. I was not very happy with this stop as we rode along the GAP and hope to never stop there again.

Great service. Very clean, and family owned. The locals that we met were friendly and fun for a Friday Happy Hour. The burgers are great and they have a great beer selection. The fries could use some work. We had just rode 35 miles on the trail, and The Trailside was just we needed to recover!!! Wish it was closer to my home, we would be regular customers!

Great lunch destination after bike riding the rail trail from Boston, PA to West Newton, PA(14 miles) or anywhere along the Great Allegheny Passage that includes West Newton. It sits alongside the trail right in West Newton. Park your bike, sit out on the deck, have an iced cold raspberry ice tea or brewsky and your choice of one of many enticing sounding options. I was having trouble deciding between the ceviche and the strawberry/candied walnut salad. The salad won. It was pleasant to look at and even more enjoyable to eat down to the last bite. My husband ordered a sandwich and fries. I can vouch for the fries, as I stole some to complement my nutritious salad. They also offer a water fill-up station. Quite nice. Be sure to visit the bike shop downstairs, as well.

My waitress was not very knowledgable on what menu options were gluten free. Although restaurants aren’t required to accommodate every allergy I feel that employees should be somewhat familiar with allergen questions. I decided to try the wings even though I knew there would be cross-contamination with the fryer & they were awesome! Everyone I was with enjoyed their meals as well.

What a disappointment. I really used to like this place. The quality of the food sucked. Nachos had so much cheese you could hardly eat them. My steak salad was awful.

This casual restaurant was recommended by just about everyone in town we met… the B&B owners, clerks at the CVS, museum volunteers, etc. It did not disappoint. Great draft beer selection… and FRESH pretzels(perfect with the beer!). We ate large salads, very fresh… lots of goodies(cranberries, nuts, cheese, etc) and I have to say that it was one of the best salads we found on the whole of the Great Allegheny Passage. Basket of pretzels for $ 4.99…dinner for 2 with lots of beer(and the pretzels) and a generous tip: $ 40.00. Can only judge the restaurant by the beer, salad and pretzels… and those were excellent. Sitting on the deck overlooking the trail with pretzels and beer after a long day of riding, can’t get much better than this! Service was great and if you need a bike repair… no problem! The restaurant is right above a bike shop!

If you’re out on the GAP and looking for the perfect spot to stop and grab a bite and a beverage, I can’t think of a better place than the Trailside. We often start our bike rides in Boston, PA, and that puts the Trailside right at about 15 miles. They have a full bar and seating area inside, but they’ve also got a lovely outdoor patio that overlooks the trail. You can people-watch or catch the Buccos game or even chat with other cyclists who have stopped in for similar reasons.(And yes, this is a place where it’s totally acceptable to show up sweaty and in biking shorts!) The food is pretty great: nice, hearty burgers, awesomely salty fries, a variety of fried munchupons, and a Pittsburgh salad bigger than your head. They also have crazy cheap drinks: we were there on a Tuesday night and 22 ounce draft Miller Lite was only $ 2.75! For those of you who, like myself, can’t stand beer, you can grab a cold glass of chardonnay to unwind mid-ride for just $ 5. On a hot day, the waitresses will bring you a full pitcher of water to your table to refuel before getting back on your bike. And there’s a bike shop in the lower level of the building, so if you need any minor repairs during the day, you can have them fix you up while you’re grabbing lunch. While I’m definitely a ‘try everything once so you can try it all’ kind of gal, it’s hard to not just plan all of our stops around the Trailside. The service is awesome, it’s got a great hometown feel, and the food will give you the energy to power through another 20 miles!

This is a great stop on the Great Allegheny Passage. The Trailside Restaurant is about 34 miles from downtown Pittsburgh on the bike trail. It’s casual, so you won’t feel self-conscious being a little unkempt from biking. And most importantly, the beer is refreshingly cheap — only $ 2.50 for a «small» 16 oz Yuengling. The menu has all the standard bar staples — lots of sandwiches, salads, wraps, and burgers. Being starved, we tackled the ½ pound burgers. My husband loved the BBQ Chipotle Pepper burger. After biking that, you will gobble down a ½ pound burger without thinking. I was a big fan of the home-made chips on the side. Live music on weekend nights, big flat-screen TVs for sporting events, and a nice outside deck(overlooking the trail and a parking lot) round out this restaurant for attracting everyone in town or traveling through.
