I was walking along Main Street looking for a place to eat and drink. My mood was kinda dark that instance, and was trying to feel better with a full stomach. I’m trying to go as far away from Orange, Main Street to West Orange. My friend who works across the street where I live said, «don’t go to any restaurant here in Orange, they’re all crappy!». With that in mind I came across this Peruvian restaurant in West Orange. I remember I have been to a Peruvian restaurant in Queens, it’s called Pio Pio! My Peruvian patient told me it’s called Pio Pio because that’s how the chicks would call their mother chicken. «piow.pio». The food there was amazing, the pollo and the salad were fantastic! So it made me curious how a local Peruvian restaurant would do… When I came inside,(lol) there were not a lot of people. It was 2:30 in the afternoon and I saw one couple on the left side and a family of 3 on the right side of the room. No one was sitting me, so I decided to go straight to the waitress whose busy doing something at the bar/cashier. She was friendly though and had me seated. I already know what I wanted which was chicken ofcourse haha! They have a special menu for a set meal. I picked combo # 2 which has ½ portion of chicken and a choice of 2 sides, had fries and salad. On the menu, the white and red wine have no price on it. You have to ask the waitress as noted there. When I asked if they have Pinot Grigio, she noded and asked for my ID. Wine was served first and right after that a small serving of peanut looking corn seeds was served. She warned me that it would be hot, and it was! The moment I stick my finger to the peanut looking(lol) corn, it started popping as if someones frying! I didn’t quite like it. They only have fork and knife wrapped in a white cloth, so when the salad was served I have to use the same fork for everything. The salad was okay, it was fresh and has a lot of stuff on. The chicken and fries came 5 mins after, chicken looks good and the fries looks crunchy. To my dismay, I liked the fries better than the chicken. I guess looks could be deceiving sometimes. It’s not bad, but it’s not amazing. It must be how it was seasoned or cook, I don’t know. What I know is the one from Pio Pio is definitely better than this one. It was normal, kinda boring and bland, nothing special. I never had fries for months, so it must be time which made my fries interesting. It became salty for me when I was half way with it. I payed $ 20.90 including tax, gratuity and tip. Isn’t gratuity and tip the same? In the check, they have tip suggestions of how much you have to give. It goes like 15% -$ 2.72, 20%-$ 3.**, 25%-4.**…30%. Well, the waitress was nice, she was close by me all the time asking if I needed anything. By the way I dropped my fork 2x not on purpose! I’m giving this restaurant 3 stars. I would still go back eat here and try other food on the menu. It’s recommendable but not something to brag about your local restaurant. I walk back home mission accomplished.
