Update: Though my last review was also negative, I haven’t been there in a year so I thought I’d give them another try. I will not be returning to this location and advise others to go to the one in downtown South Orange instead. The short, hispanic woman who helped me gave me this look like she wanted nothing to do with me. She was very skimpy with toppings(even for a 6″ sub). She gave me the smallest pieces of tomato she could and when i asked for more tomato she slid one more small end piece in, hiding it under some lettuce… ok… Then at checkout, county employees are supposedly entitled to a discount — which she did not give me. As soon as the transaction was complete she made no eye contact with me and started looking at something else. I asked her if I could please have my receipt, to which she threw at me. I work in customer service. I’m nice to everybody. But the way she treated me during my rushed lunch break was completely unacceptable, and my coworkers have had similar experiences with this woman.

I work close by and this Subway is on my way home and it’s a cheap place to eat before I get on the nightmare that 280 east can be at rush hour. Today, it seemed like there was a new employee so he’s going to have his normal bumps in the road. It is unavoidable and doesn’t bother me at all. What bothered me was the more senior employee berating him and making it super awkward for all the customers in there. Have some decorum for Pete’s sake. She was super condescending to the poor kid who this was probably his first job. She one-upped herself though as I ordered a sandwich and, as I always do, asked for a cup of water, which they always give me. She instead denied me this basic human right. I even brought up that I get a water cup all the time, even last week when I was in here, which she scoffed at. I told her fine, I’d eat my sandwich in my car with no beverage in hand. I’d rather not spend anymore money there anyway. That didn’t stop me however. After I finished my sandwich, I went back in with a big water bottle I had in the car and filled it up with water. I could feel her seething from behind the counter but she couldn’t bring herself to say anything. Man, I’m sure you’ll really feel the hit on your P&L statement from that 32 oz water fill up! Put a smile on and pretend to enjoy your job in CUSTOMERSERVICE you miserable lady.

Ugh! I went here recently to grab a sub since we were hungry after walking around at the zoo across the street. Even though the sandwich was just as good as any other location(Subway Club), this location was simply the worst that I’ve ever been to, and will most likely not return again. The service was really slow! We waited almost 30 minutes just to get our orders prepared, despite the fact that the line wasn’t too long. At other locations, we waited less during moments like those. For anyone who was in a hurry(which I wasn’t) and was starving, this would have been really annoying. If that wasn’t enough, they told us at the last moment before paying that it was«CASHONLY». Really? They should have put a sign like that up or let us know prior to ordering that this was the only payment method available at that time. There was only one restroom in this establishment, and it was locked. It was clear that no one was in there(based on «echoed» knocking with no voice), and it was locked, regardless. SMH Finally, GOODLUCK finding a parking spot here. This establishment is part of a tiny strip mall, yet the parking area is really tiny and filled up! I’m so glad my family and I decided to walk across from the zoo, otherwise we would be wasting more time in simply finding a place to park our car. Hey, if you plan on coming here right after the zoo, simply burn the calories by walking instead of driving. It’ll save you the hassle of finding a parking spot, and not to mention the fuel. Well, one thing’s for sure, is that if I’m ever in the area again, I will consider another place to eat.

There are far better places in West Orange to get a sandwich.
