Delicious and fresh food. Friendly service. Great ambiance. I had the kale salad with grilled chicken. Perfectly sized portion. My sister had the fish cakes with salad and she loved it as well.

We were happy to see this place open since W. Roxbury could use more restaurants but our experience in actually dining there was underwhelming, to say the least. The menu is pretty pedestrian: Lots of «white food,» e.g., fish, potatoes, chicken, etc.(Do we really need yet another Irish restaurant in West Roxbury?) And the attempts to add a twist to standards were a bit far reaching. Deviled eggs w/trout? My southern friends would keel over as would Italians at seeing pesto with rigatoni. The food we did order was average, at best. The cabbage was simply cooked and slathered with butter — nothing more. Brussell sprouts were good, but again, they were, um, brussell sprouts with little else added. And potatoes are, well, potatoes. In short, a pretty bland and uninspired menu. The wine list was substandard with pretty much the varietals you could get at any basic wine store or even supermarket. We ate in the pub section, which, again, is a great idea(splitting the place into two seating areas), but alas, it was extremely loud, with TVs blaring and guys sitting at the bar yelling. Really disappointing.

We dined on a Monday. They were out of the oysters that were available for free on Mondays. Dinner was ok. Cocktails from the bar were excellent but dinner was a bit overcooked. The halibut was fine but cooked too much and the lamb was fine but also overcooked. There were more service folks than diners at the restaurant. The physical space is lovely… large room and nice tables… kitchen needs a little work…

Enjoyed my first meal at EWJO last night with a good friend(first time for both of us) and we had a great time. The space itself is well laid out with plenty of space between the tables and nicely decorated(although not quite sure what the oversized painting of the Flamenco dancer near the bar is doing in an Irish gastro pub). As soon as you walk in you’re facing a brightly lit dessert showcase displaying the restaurant’s line of scrumptious desserts including cheesecake, layer cake, roulade and tiramisu. The menu itself offers an eclectic mix of dishes including rotisserie chicken and lamb; steak frites; baked halibut; chicken pot pie; burgers; and, fish ‘n chips(which is what I ordered and thoroughly enjoyed). The service was polite and efficient; the crowd was comprised of family with kids to young couples; and, the overall experience was one that I look forward to repeating… often.

Very Nice Irish Restaurant. Nicely decorated inside which surprise us. Highly recommend for brunch. Good and comfort environment to dinner with friends. We had try the Diamond Sunrise and French 75 cocktails. Diamond Sunrise is very refreshing. For the food items we tried the scallops with Scrambled eggs and salad, delicious! They also offer scone with strawberry Jam and Whipping Cream(Good substitution for clotted cream)!!!(We are scones lovers) Staff are friendly, service is fast, pricing is reasonable. Everything is great, we will definitely come back soon.

I liked it here. They had really crispy quality tasting fries, and great falafel fries. A really lovely atmosphere for a mother daughter meal with a wide variety of tasty things on the menu. It was a bit pricey, but worth it for the special occasion!

This was my first time dining at Jack O’Neill’s. I don’t know how you can go wrong with chicken pie, but it was so wrong. It was overwhelmingly tasteless, dry, no vegetables and very little chicken with a doughy undercooked, puffed pastry crust. The cup of seafood chowder was okay, but again pretty tasteless and served with stale bread. I did not finish the chowder and ate only ¼ of the chicken pie. The severe bloating and gastric distress I had after, tells me the ingredients are no good, especially for the price. It’s a shame because the place looks great and I wanted to like it, but they’ll have to do better with their food.

Omg! This place is fantastic, from start to finish the whole experience was amazing. The fresh bread basket with homemade raspberry jam was delicious and fresh. My husband had the Irish breakfast. Very very pleasantly surprised. It was fresh no grease and the presentation was beautiful. As you walk into the restaurant they have a beautiful dessert display, I thought I had walked into Paris. Very impressed we will be back.

Leg of Lamb, Seafood Pie, and Steak Frites all very good, all great portions. You just do not get lamb for under $ 20 around Boston. The service was fast, friendly, and efficient, thank you Roisin. The French Fries are excellent! Nice beer selection on tap and bottle. Clean, easy to talk, if this is an Irish Pub count me in.

I’ve gone here twice so far– once for a weekend lunch, and once for a Saturday night dinner. The service and the food couldn’t have been better– I had the smoked salmon sandwich the first time and the fish pie the second, and both dishes were fantastic. The menu is absolutely delicious and very Irish(ie: what you’d find at a Irish restaurant in Ireland these days), and the service couldn’t be more attentive and friendly — the manager even recognized me from my previous visit! Plus, we couldn’t get over how affordable all the food was. The atmosphere in the restaurant is friendly and focused on a relaxed experience(though everything came out so fast!) — there is a beautiful dining room that feels very modern and very inviting. The innovative décor, along with the tablecloths and fresh flowers on every table really lend something nice to the feel of the main seating area. The pub side(completely separate) is extremely lively and congenial, with live Irish music the night we went. I can’t wait to spend more time on that side. I can’t say enough good things about this place– it’s exactly what West Roxbury needed! It’s beautiful while being incredibly affordable, and with these prices, we’ll be able to afford to come here a lot more frequently than almost any other restaurant in Boston. Great job, Jack O’Neil’s!

I ate here with my boyfriend and parents a couple weeks ago and was so very impressed! To avoid tangents I’ll use bullet points: — Firstly I don’t like to talk up one place by putting down another, but this place offers a great alternative to West on Centre that I’ve been waiting for; it’s cheaper, the menu is less hipster-y with ingredients I’ve actually heard of, and IT’S NOTRIDICULOUSLYLOUD! That’s always been a drawback of West that drove me nuts.. when it’s packed you can’t hear a DAMN thing your co-diners are saying due to the background noise. –The food is spectacular. My parents were big fans of the pot pies(my father had fish pie and my mom the chicken pie) and my buffalo wings were perfectly done without being sloppy; could’ve used some more sauce but I asked for extra and it was promptly delivered. The dessert options are great which is also important to me. I had the Baileys cheesecake which was absolutely outstanding in its lightness and subtlety of the Baileys flavor. –The hosts and our server were all pleasant and quick to get us situated. I’m never nitpicky about service as long as the providers are pleasant and attentive so I don’t have much to say there. Nothing over the top but that’s fine with me. I don’t need my server doing backflips for me. –The price is totally reasonable. We did dinner and dessert for four adults and the bill was just over $ 100(this does not include the one drink each we got at the bar while waiting for a table.) Altogether we were very satisfied with the experience and will surely be back. I was expecting the place to be pricey and am just so glad it’s actually within my own price range for a great dinner out. Next time ill give lunch a try!

When you want an upscale Irish Pub that serves wicked great eats, look no further than Eat with Jack O’Neill! Tried a few options off the menu, both a special and regular items. First you have to pick your side — the more traditional pub side of the establishment, or the more fancy restaurant side. The onion rings were heavy on the crispy batter, but delicious. A hit of salt and they were delicious! The special — Corned Beef and Cabbage — was spot on. Although the cabbage itself could have used a bit more of a flavor hit, the potatoes had absorbed the delicious flavors of the beef and were incredible. The brown-not-red corned beef was spot-on superb, so tender and flavorful. As for the burger, a solid regular menu item. the burger itself was cooked perfectly and the fries outstanding. A well-rounded West Roxbury institution.

Went out with my wife and her father, and was really hoping this restuarant would be great and fill a hole in west rox. Service — except for the bar staff — Was lacking. No one greeted us upon entering, our waitress never refilled water or checked in. Food — they must have hired some line cooks from a nursing home. Pork chops were tasteless mushy slop, carrots overboiled, mash potatoes unseasoned. My wifes salad had not enough dressing. Even my wine was disappointing. Ambience — great, really liked it. Space is full of light and inviting. My advice — get a real chef to lead the charge and retrain the wait staff. I’ll come back for drinks but food, never.

Wow!!! What a brunch find. The décor is phenomenal – modern, finished, upscale, yet cozy. I loved the bar and the hanging clocks. Just gorgeous. The scone is to die for. Perfectly crispy top with just a touch of powdered sugar. Homemade raspberry jam and cream. What a pleasant treat. The breakfast sandwich is outstanding. The bread is so flavorful, perfectly toasted. The citrus aioli makes the sandwich. The poached eggs with salmon was perfect. The potatoes are perfectly seasoned and the accompanying salad was lightly dressed. What a great experience, thank you!

I don’t usually come to West Roxbury but I tagged along with a group of friends the other day and one of them recommended this place for brunch — yum-o yum! I loved the avocado toast and the Diamond Sunrise cocktail! The toast had roasted cherry tomatoes on it, which were delicious, but the toasted bread is really what sold me. Their Irish soda bread is dark and hearty and has a sprinkling of pumpkin seeds on top! As far as the cocktail goes, I appreciated the tanginess of it(due to the grapefruit juice). It tasted very refreshing and went well with the avocado. My friends had the fried chicken(the plate is huge, only order if you are really hungry!), the omelette, and the Irish breakfast — the food got thumbs up all around. I also really enjoyed the ambiance — tall ceilings, big windows that let the light in, friendly décor. The staff was friendly but seemed rushed. I don’t know how much was going on over in the restaurant area(we were seated in the pub area) but there was a lot of frenzied running-around happening, even though only about half the seats were taken. Why only four stars? Because the vegan/vegetarian options were lacking. Don’t get me wrong, the avocado toast was great, but it was the only option that didn’t have meat/egg of some kind in it. Everything else was on the heavy/fried/meaty side. I would also appreciate some lighter items(most of the menu items sounded very heavy and rich).

I want to like this new spot and I hope it can get through the early growing pains of a new restaurant. First, the good: nice look and space. It’s a good feel inside, huge windows, bright and airy. Friendly staff. Nice prices on the menu and portions I liked-not massive but reasonable. Okay bloody Mary’s. The bad: I’ve been twice and the staff is very inexperienced and inattentive. No coffee refills. They didn’t bring me a drink I ordered. Didn’t bring bread to the table. It’s not the end of the world, but it is something they can and should address. Whether it was the staff or the kitchen, both times I’ve been the food was overcooked. My medium rare burger was well done, Donald Trump-style. The hash with poached eggs and the poached eggs w/salmon had eggs that were not just hard boiled and overdone, they were way overdone. Keep those eggs a little runny, will ya? And the hash, while a nice presentation, was mostly stuffing with bits of meat. Weird to order hash and have it be primarily bread. I will go back. I want the place to work and like I said, it’s a nice space/feel. But the Rox has much better food two doors down and while it cannot compete in terms of space and atmosphere, this place has to step it up. I hope it does.

We decided to come back since the restaurant finally opened. We made a call ahead and they had the table ready. It is a bit classier on this side however still pretty casual and trendy. The menu was small which can be a blessing. Most of the food served on the bar side is not served minus the pies. The wait staff was pleasant and efficient. The food came out very quickly. I got the lamb chop with roasted brussel sprouts and the potato things that were not good kinda dry the mint jelly was a nice touch. My wife got the beet root salad which she enjoyed. We will be back. Two glasses of wine two meals rough price $ 55.

I’m am always pleased to be here. I tend to go during down times, Saturday and Sunday’s, 3 – 5. I often meet Sable at the bar, who knows what I typically order(the house Malbec) and she leaves me be as I read my paper, and checks in only as my glass gets low. Their deviled eggs are a favorite– the saltiness and smokiness from the fish makes them mouth watering. They’re bread is dreamy, and I wish them only the best as a new restaurant.

This place is small but I see that they seem to be expanding their space. There are a few booths large enough for 4 per booth and a really cool long table in the center of the restaurant. Seems like they seat strangers with each other which could make for good conversation. There is also seating at the bar which is pretty nicely decorated, the entire place is tastefully decorated actually. The restrooms are also clean. :) Ok, food is tasty. Pricey but good. Decent Scotch egg and Cornish pasties. The bartender was the server and let me just say she was not friendly. Cordial at best. Not sure if she’s forced to be bartender and server and management needs to hire more people but she was completely useless when it came to questions about the menu. I ordered a small dish that came with a salad(I wasn’t aware it came with a salad) and also ordered a mixed greens salad. Would’ve been nice if I’d been told I’m getting the same salad twice. To top it off she told me the salad i ordered was a little better so that irritated me because it was the same. Don’t BS me. All that aside, yes the food is good and came out quickly. The atmosphere is relaxed with a cool brick wall and black and white photos giving it a speakeasy feel. We’ll try again and will update. Just focus on service. If you need qualified servers, hire them please so we don’t have to deal with the grumpy bartender. :)
