Worst service ever. But Food was amazing thanks to who was cooking. But I felt unwelcome from the moment I walked in. What ever happened to the days you would walk into an establishment and people were warm and welcoming. Probably shouldn’t run a business if you can’t be friendly.

What is there not to like about Elkhorn… nothing! Start with the owners, Rose and Skip, who are welcoming and fun. Then the food… French dip was best I have had and I have had many. Prime rib sandwich was outstanding as well. Beer was cold and plentiful with lots of options. Full bar for those wanting more. I just went for lunch but will be back for an evening when there is a band outside. Well worth getting off the main road to visit this place and support the wonderful owners! If you are flying in to SMF then no excuse not to stop by before you leave for your other destination.

My husband and I have been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally went there last weekend. I had the surf and turf special and the hubby had a chicken sandwich and an order of onion rings. The onion rings were disappointing because there was too much batter and there were greasy and overcooked. My husband loved his chicken sandwich and my dinner was good and plentiful. I do want to go back to try the prime rib.

Great food fun local atmosphere and nice people. Cuisine is traditional American, but it’s well done. The fries taste homemade like freshly cut potatoes. It’s the local farmers favorite. Don’t let the location fool you because it’s secluded, it’s worth it.

This was OK. For an out of the way place, I was really surprised by the prices. The steak sandwich was very overpriced and a good majority of it was unedible due to the high fat content. I know, this is a toughie because some like fat, some do not. But for 20 bucks, come on. There are so many places to get the same quality for 12 to 15 dollars. I had the pulled pork, it was pretty good, but if you do not like burn your face off spicy, that is not the order for you. Wow was it hot. So much so at times, I could not taste the food. I would return if I happen to be in the area, but would not make a trip specifically for their food unless they made some adjustments to pricing. I hate leaving a restaurant feeling like I was robbed. I will give as much as it takes to «get» good food. Our server was pleasant, but really treated us like«Oh, your still here and would like your first refill on your drink». It was blah service at best. They had a rowdy crowd(the usuals I am sure) and they pretty much dominated the servers’ attention. We were their with our 13 year old who was a little shocked by the ‘boob’ picture on the wall. I just figured he’d see more in his life, so no biggie. But really. For a steak sammie, plain cheese burger and pulled pork, two sodas and a water, 60 bucks out the door. Advice: Step up the quality(and décor) or bring the prices down to match.

Amazing French Dip! Unilocalers again did not let me down. It’s only 2.5 miles from the airport but worth the trip! Bartender and owner was a very funny guy who knows good food. Homemade ranch and the French dip was phenomenal. This from someone who frequently doesn’t eat carbs! Yummy in my tummy!

I really wanted to like this place. I had driven by it so many times and it always smelled amazing. Sadly, the actual food, not so good and kinda overpriced for what it was. The good points: Fun rowdy country saloon atmosphere with a lot of locals that looked like they were really enjoying the bar/lounge area. This was their karaōke night and many people were crooning their country hearts out. So if you’re looking for that, it’s a great spot. The staff was super friendly but frazzled. The not so great: The food. We knew not to order the appetizers as some of the previous reviews had warned against it. I ordered the French dip($ 10.50) with a side of garlic fries. The meat on the French Dip was generously seasoned but… dry as beef jerky. The bun was just a sad sub roll from Costco or some similar restaurant supply place with that typical high fructose corn syrup taste — and a bit burnt. The au jus dip smelled amazing but must have reduced way too long and was like a salt lick. The garlic fries were also seasoned well but were limp and drowned in salt. Honestly, after a few bites, I couldn’t taste anything. My BF ordered the ribeye steak($ 19.00) with a side of coleslaw. His steak was seasoned well and was prepared properly but had been pounded into submission by someone in the kitchen that may not be very happy. It’s just not right to treat a beautiful cut of meat that way. The coleslaw tasted fresh and had a good flavor. Anyway, we quickly paid our tab(way too much for the food) and got the hell out of there while slapping the swarm of mosquitos attacking our arms(we sat indoors). I imagine the patio must have an infestation of hungry skeeters that sneak in every time the door swings open. I guess we won’t be coming back to try anything else. :(

The food was pretty good. We came on a whim with a groupon. The pulled pork sandwhich was a little dry but the flavor was on point. I usuallt dont like coleslaw at all but their coleslaw was deliscious. My main disappointment were the ribs. It was 20 bucks for a 4 peice rack and they were big but the taste wasnt as good as a 20 buck rib should be. All in all i left satisfied. Maybe it was and off day for the ribs. Customer service was friendly. Actual inside was cute and cozy.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this place is exceptional. We wee looking for food close to the airport and we’re lucky we found this place. Philly cheese steak and linguica sausage sandwiches were some of the best we’ve ever had. Highly recommend!!!

First time here, our favorite band Orion was playing and we came to support our friend Russell… this place is adorable! Nice large outside sitting area so that you don’t feel like someone is right on top of you. The service was good and the menu was well priced. My fiancé had the steak sandwich and it was huge! Once thing I would like to have seen was a vegetarian meal aka a garden burger/veggie sandwich. I don’t eat meat so having one basic«go to» item is nice. We checked out the menu ahead of time and they showed online that that there were nachos but on the menu at the table didn’t have them. I asked and they were made for me but the cheese was cold to the touch. I didn’t have the heart to say anything since they did accommodate me. We will be going back, just will have to remember the menu options and accommodate myself accordingly.

Friendly place, staff & clientele! They have beer by the pitcher available and a full restaurant menu. Avoid the calamari. The jalapeño poppers are just like the ones I get from Costco. The mushrooms were awesome, though! And when you drive out, over the river and back along an unlit riverside road, the people and the place better be worth it and I’d have to say this place is.

Stopped here for lunch after our motorcycle ride. My husband told me about the fish and chips he had about a month ago and wanted to bring me here to try… He was right. It was probably the best I’ve ever tasted. We also ordered the chicken salad which was amazing. The chicken was flavorful… bacon, blue cheese crumble, black olives, red onion, cucumber. .just delicious. The service was great. Friendly people:)

This place is like the secret Swabbies. It’s on the other side of river and has a kick ass patio. They play live music on the weekends, too. Great stop if you feel like the drive.

You have to try the fresh Alaskan Pollock fish & chips! Wow! It comes with home made in house fries & fresh made coleslaw. Another winner is the Elkhorn French dip sandwich is made from their own prime rib/roast beef and covered in Swiss cheese & sourdough toasted bread. An off the tracks Saloon delight!

I am writing this review after my second visit. This place actually feels like a «saloon» which is hard to find in this area. The owners and staff are all welcoming and fun. I tried the burger and Philly cheese steak and thought they were great. The drinks are reasonably priced as well. Overall, good vibes/people, food, and drink… what more could you ask for!

Came in for a late dinner before picking up my gf from the airport. I had the pulled pork sandwich and I have to say that it is probably the best pulled pork sandwich that I’ve ever had. There was the right amount of meat for the sandwich, the French fries are amazing. I have been raving about the pulled pork to everyone I’ve seen in the past day. Now I can’t wait to go back for more.
