A lot of the sari fabrics were synthetics but some interesting cotton prints thrown in. Lots of unusual colors. Huge color range of cheap lightweight cottons. Variety of fabric sets of salwar kameez. Ready to wear kameez, petticoats, mens kurtas as well as acessories like bangles, bindi, rhinestone jewelry sets. Not to mention hindi music tapes, video tapes, and at least half the store is groceries.

Excellent prices and very good quality of fabric which is very difficult to find in other Indian Outlets. Other products are are very reasonably priced and makes life so easy since they totally assist you in every possible way. Will recommend to anyone in search of Silk.

Khalsa has been around forever and there is a very good reason why. Even though it’s small and nestled into the nooks and crannies of West Capitol Ave, it carries all Indian grocery needs and some. You can find your frozen fixes, all the different types of flours you could need and an array of spices and vegetables for cooking. Not to mention, Indian movies/music and fabric for clothing. The family that owns and runs the store is always really helpful. We usually purchase rice flour by 10– or 5-lbs and they only had a huge 50lb bag available the other day. The man was nice enough to package it into two separate 10-lb bags to make it easier for us since we were buying for mutliple households. Great thing is that they are modern, they have the ability to accept credit cards for God’s sake. There is a reason why it’s still around — nothing else has outdone it.

After finding beetles in the spices that I bought just last month I am sickened to even think about buying food stuff from this place ever again.(The spices were in original packages and sealed and the beetles were inside their sealed containers… they appeared to have died in there) Maybe I’d buy fabric just because it’s good for arts and crafts and I am crafty… I don’t know tho… bugs are my weak spot… icky…

I was looking for some type of cheese cloth when I stumbled upon this store. I did not find anything close to resembling a cheese cloth, but they have lots of different materials for saris. Randomly, half of the store has groceries which stunned me for a second. The selection seems to be large enough to interest me in coming back to check out their foods. It sure smells nice in there with all the different spices and the person working inside was friendly.

I LOVE this place! I’ve passed by Khalsa tons of times, but this weekend I decided to stop to look for some fabric for curtains. The woman who works there is awesome, and I told her what my project was. Even women coming in to pick out fabric for their saris took interest in my curtain project. I picked out some gorgeous silk brocade — 3 yards for 12 $ — You can’t beat that. And the fabric is scented of spices. I also picked up some vindaloo curry paste and nag champa. They have every lentil known to man available in bulk. Next time I am going to pick up some frozen veggie samosas.

I first came here many moons ago when I was in high school looking for 100% silk for which to wrap my tarot cards(yeah, yeah it was a high school phase and I was tryin’ to piss off and scare my mom — bad Catholic girl, bad, bad — also got busted for wearing torn boy’s version of thermal underwear under my uniform skirt too — hey it was cold, but I’ve mellowed in my old age). Came here recently to buy more silk, but this time for my daughters. Alas, they didn’t have a very large selection of 100% silk. In the smaller front section of the store you can find interesting, beautiful, Asian-inspired, unusual, and banal fabrics by the bolt, yard, etc. Some remnants can be purchased along with complete or partial Saris, too. Not just a fabric store, as their Business name contains the word«Plus». The plus is that a little more than half of the store is dedicated to Indian groceries, music, accessories and more. My daughter also spied fresh coconuts. As we left the store, walking past all the shiny accessories, my daughter said«Mommy, can we come back here?» «I like this store»(she’s a girl with her eye on bright shiny objects, indeed). P. S. Parking is in the back, behind the store. And they are closed on Mondays.
