For a decade now, Donut Dip has been my ritualistic, monthly pilgrimage from central Connecticut and number one recommendation to anyone who will listen. Every time I declare this to friends and family, following the echo of «you drive all the way up there for donuts?» The response is, well, «Yes, Of Course.» Donut Dip is host to the most incredible Boston Kreme yet, with a delicate, light crispiness on the outside. Crullers are another favorite among Coconut and outstanding array always sized robust as they should be. Been to Murphy’s before, but Dip kills them. People feel compelled to compare to the ‘Massachusetts standard’ Dunkin’ Donuts. Donut Dip is what you get when you have a tight, two-store operation and do things the same as they’ve been done for half a century and what you give up when a chain becomes too big, loses its roots like Dunkin’ has. Only knock against Donut Dip is their choice brew New England Coffee Co., which is the blandest swill and represents itself no better here. Doesn’t affect the donuts, as the atmosphere is grab-and-go, limited counter and standing room. They have a less sexy shop near the X, for a more regular crowd. This Dip on 5 attracts tourists as its visible off 91 for sure with a building and grandiose neon that was probably once met in a sea of them, proudly hasn’t been touched since 1957.

Well, well, well. It seems that this unassuming«little» donut shop I *thought* was a secret is anything but! I had passed by Donut Dip many-a-time before finally stopping in. The smell wafting out of its doors is something similar to Nirvana(and I’m not talking Teen Spirit). Inside, I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices… in donuts alone! Not to mention their pastries, muffins, cookies, and more. I confessed to the woman behind the counter that it was my first time(gasp) and she sweetly told me all the«customer favorites» in an «well aren’t you a dear» voice. My first trip, I opted for a smattering of different types: honey dipped(similar to glazed), apple cider donuts, butternut. I could hardly wait to close the door to my car before inhaling the first one. These donuts are much different(read: so much better) than the mass-produced donuts from national chains. They’re dense, with texture, taste, and maybe(?) crack. They’re addictive. Just kidding guys, they definitely don’t put drugs in the donuts but they ARE that good. Since that first trip, I’ve stopped in more times than I(or my skinny jeans) would care to admit. My favorite donut, by far, is the butternut, similar to a «crumb» donut but soooo much better. I usually just get a half dozen of those now. However, since I’ve «outed» myself as a Donut Dip-oholic, I won’t be ashamed to stop in more often and try out new options. Their hours are absolutely wild: 3AM-11:45PM most nights. Seriously? I didn’t know that, and maybe it’s best I didn’t. That means if you’re Ubering back from a night out at some divey bar in Holyoke, you can maybe stop in and buy a dozen donuts to satiate the hangover you’ll have tomorrow. You’re welcome. Plus, it’s about $ 6 a half dozen. And worth every penny.

Now this place for coffee & donuts has been a staple even before Riverdale St. got hot with the development you got now & this perhaps was around even in the days when drive-in theaters were along this road but nevertheless this place has stood the test of time & this guy can tell you no matter how many times I hit this place this one does this all real great. The donuts are pretty much like most you get in the major ones but they got the unique ones certain places use to do before they stopped making them such as frosting-filled ones(this sort of gives you my age but I don’t care) & the coffee is excellent & though the prices some would question for the quality & the taste & such you get the dollar amount is worth it. Oh before I forget they do sell cappuccino, expresso, latttes, paminis etc… so you least know they’re not a one-trick game. this place if you’re in this town trust me you won’t be disappointed & heck even big-rig guys come here & others to so it’s all good.

The apple fritter had zero apple anything to be found. It was iced nice with otherwise donut-y delishousness… Donuts were tasty, wished the coconut cream donut actually had a coconut flavored cream inside!

Yum, yum yum!!! Best donuts I’ve had in the area. They are so fresh and even taste great the next day. I could literally eat a box all by myself. Prices are great.

I’ve got no beef with Dunkin Donuts, but what these guys are selling is miles ahead in quality and flavor. Friendly staff, and they’ll get you in and out quickly, even though they can get busy.

My love for donuts will never fade away. I was really excited to try this place out. I got a half dozen: chocolate with sprinkles, honey dip, chocolate éclair, blackberry jelly, chocolate cake. My favorite was the honey dip – it melted in my mouth.

I’ve eaten a lot of donuts in the search for the very best ones. And I’m convinced there is no one best donut shop. So far, each place has the things it does well, and the things that don’t quite measure up to other establishments. There is a reason people gush about Donut Dip. Holy cow, those donut shells are fantastic. All of them. The yeast raised are light, have such a rich elastic crumb, and some even have a delightful bit of crispness on the exterior. The cake donuts have a hard fried crunch that yields to a tender interior crumb, they too are fantastic. The place where Donut Dip falls short is with its toppings, flavors, and fillings. Neither the chocolate frosting nor the chocolate crème had a deep cocoa flavor. They were brown, but both tasted more like sugar than anything else, and that’s a shame. I had high hopes for the black raspberry jelly donuts, but the filling contained those dreaded gummy bits that are supposed to mimic the presence of actual fruit. The apple cider and pumpkin donuts were fine, but didn’t quite rise to the level of the more traditional offerings on the shelf. If you’ve never had a better apple cider donut than the ones at this shop, then I’d highly recommend a trip to some of the better orchards that surround New York’s Capital Region. That said, the toasted coconut was truly fantastic. It’s a flavor that can be cloyingly sweet, but here was not. The exterior coconut was golden brown, and super crisp. The blueberry jelly had pieces of real fruit inside, and was also one of my favorites. And the honey dipped weren’t bad, but I do prefer a bit more crackle in my glaze. Without a doubt, this place is far, far superior to the mass market donut chain that litters the local landscape. And I’m going to come back here pretty much every time I drive back to Albany from Providence. Especially because Donut Dip was out of sour cream donuts on my last visit. Hopefully after the next dozen, I’ll have found enough winners to elevate this amazing shop to five stars. I’m sure they are there. It’s just a matter of getting them into my belly.

I am officially addicted. These are the BEST donuts I’ve ever had. And I’ve eaten a LOT of donuts. Dunkin has become irrelevant as long as I have access to Donut Dip.

I don’t want to admit that I ate here. This is my highly anticipated stop when I have an early morning flight at Hartford/Springfield Bradley airport. Donut Dip opens really early, so it’s perfect. Coffee and donut to finish the airport run. Arrive at the airport on a sugar high and feeling yumminess inside. Love this place. Authentic. Unpretentious. We have fancy donut shops in Washington DC charging $ 2 – 3 for a doughnut, and they are delicious, but not significantly more delicious than Donut Dip. I love how I arrive at 5AM and the lady behind the counter is frosting donuts in the back, then comes out to serve me. I love that you see the bakers work. I love the 1940’s vibe of the place. I love that it’s next to a crummy highway and that the front is all glass so you can see everything. Keep it up Donut Dip, we love you!

Food: 3.5 Service: 4 Considering the high star rating, I was expecting the doughnuts to be out-of-this-world-mind-blowing-deliciousness. They were good, but nothing special. The Chocolate Glazed doughnuts reminded me of the ones that were sold at the large supermarkets chains in DC(Giant, Shoppers, etc). We also ordered the two recommended flavors: Apple Cider and Sour Cream Apple Cider had a slightly dry, outer cake coating, and only a little bit more moist in the middle. The apple cider flavor was very subtle, and barely a hint of cinnamon. Sour Cream, upon initial bite, tasted like a normal vanilla cake doughnut. However, there was a peculiar sour cream after taste left on your tongue. Although this place is a small step above the many Dunkin Donuts franchises around the area, I will be looking for other doughnut shops to try instead.

Consistently great donuts! This is a donut shop, not a sit-down place(although they do make a good cup of coffee). We’ve been stopping by for years(although we live two states away) and every morning we’ve ever visited they’ve had a full assortment of iced and stuffed donuts, although the plain(cake and buttermilk) are equally great. The donuts are made on-site which you can see through the open door, and displayed directly behind the counter so you can clearly tell what’s available; the staff is always friendly and efficient as well. Worth a detour!

We have a donut dip less than two blocks from our house but this one has a wider variety of donuts and other sweet treats that line its walls. I stopped in here as a special treat the week after I was due with baby, I figured I might as well enjoy being preggers for a little while longer. I was so excited I ended up with a sack full of treats and I was not disappointed. Same great quality as our location, just more options. I’ll have to go back and try some more to give you specifics but I can tell you that the black raspberry is my favorite filled but the honey dip really hits the spot when you want something more straight up. If you like coffee cake, theirs is some of the best I have ever had so do yourself a favor and snag one of their giant chunks. Since this one seems to have more«specialty» donuts I would say gravitate towards those so get the most wow out of those calories!

Donut Dip simply has the best donuts anywhere! Excellent service by people who are passionate about what they do. There’s something special about this place, from the classic décor to the quality and care that goes into their products. Nice job all around. Keep it up!

Best. Donuts. Ever. What more do I need to say? Sorry Dunkin, but this is what a real donut tastes like. I’ve had some of the other good locals — Mrs. Murphy’s in Southwick and Adams in Greenfield — but these are by far the tops, hands down. Which one to pick? The sour cream, of course. Now go buy a donut. Savor it. Close your eyes while it melts in your mouth. Then you can thank me. You’re welcome.

The best donuts ever! I’ve had quite a few gourmet donuts from coast to coast in my time but none beat those of Donut Dip. Donut Dip’s confections are lightly fried, non-greasy, non-goopy with their application of glaze, and aren’t heavy-sitting in the stomach. Situated in a cute little shop reminiscent of the 1950s, Donut Dip has that family feel that makes you love the atmosphere as much as the donuts themselves. Better than Dunkin, Tim Horton’s, and Krispy Kreme in my mind. Also half the price(a dozen for $ 7 is hard to beat). Donut Dip is a definite must!

This is it. This is the best donuts in the area. I know this is going to raise the controversy of Mrs Murphy’s vs everyone else, but honestly, these donuts are my childhood wrapped up in paper and thin cardboard boxes. This FEELS like donut shops of my youth. Once you walk through the door the wafting smells of onsite baking hit you in the face and make you drool. The varieties are many, there are other pasties. The coffee is solidly«decent.» The setting is retro. The staff is friendly, and helpful. They are able to move through a line faster than almost any other shop I’ve seen. The donuts themselves: Cakey, crisp, sugary, heaven. They also have cider donuts all year round. Game. Set. Match.

You have a better chance of catching a glimpse of Sasquatch than seeing what I did upon my first visit to Donut Dip last Wednesday. A man emerges from behind a kitchen door, smiling, carrying a rack of baked goods, placing them on the appropriate display shelf, and letting all the customers know… «Fresh batch of chocolate donuts, just came out… nice and warm.» Wait… you made those INHOUSE? I must have been dreaming. Where’s my donut that was made with five kinds of preservatives at a centralized facility in rural Arkansas, then synergistically mobilized through the optimized supply chain in a cardboard box with a plastic bag and a packet of silica gel? This shall not stand… I demand donuts that taste like the container they were delivered in! Donuts, coffee, bagels, apple fritters, and a few other baked and fried goods. That’s pretty much the entire menu. Do they have exactly 49 varieties as claimed on the signage? I didn’t bother to count. But this is a bona fide«retro food experience» in every sense. As claims the website [which was probably last updated in 1998]… «Worth a major detour!» It truly is.
