This is literally heaven on earth for me. It’s like my second home. John and Mike are the coolest guys in the world and literally the most perfect owners for a music shop. When you walk in the store, don’t expect to see a wall full of Fenders and Gibsons like every other music shop. John knows that his customers appreciate good quality instruments and are willing to pay, so he stocks brands such as Reverend, G&L, and Hagstrom. And don’t even get me started on the pedals. Words don’t do justice to his collection of pedals available. I’ve known John for many years and he truly is one of the nicest and most humble guys I’ve ever met. He always remembers every customer who walks in and will go out of his way to satisfy everyone. Don’t let the exterior of the store fool you, this is a hidden gem when it comes to music shops and has something for everyone.

The shop is cluttered in a good way. Lots of consignment everything, so used is represented. John loves pedals, so way many of those, and both acoustic and electric guitars and amps. Industry and player knowledge up the whatever, and a willingness to chat — picking up on your interests and going beyond to help you learn more. Was willing to let me take a guitar home to ‘test’ it, then return it for another to order. My son turned me on to this place after I’d already lived north of West Saint Paul for 15 years, and I regret no knowing of them sooner.

Do you know what sucks about so many music stores? They could give a rats ass about you or your business. This is definitely NOT the case at Eclipse. While most music stores have under-appreciated and overly egofied musician employees hammering out their solos for anybody that will listen, Eclipse brings genuine interest in the customer to the stool. The expertise between the father and son combo is incredible, and they’re not just there to have their egos stroked. You find that you quickly become a part of the Eclipse Music family and they will help you build off of your musical collective… not theirs. Now living out of state, I only get back to purchase gift certificates for my dad… or to grab picks or something minor… but I’d always purchase my gear from Eclipse if I still lived in MN. This is a great local, family business that is worth your time and money. They are also considered one of the best shops for lessons in Minnesota. If you’re looking for something you can’t find, something you need fixed, some advice, lessons, or a friendly guitar shop family to become a part of… this is the place.

I’ve been coming here for over a decade and I cannot stress enough how vast the cumulative knowledge is of the family that owns this place. The shop is old and a little dilapidated, but so are many of the fine vintage instruments they sell. Eclipse embodies all of the virtues associated with small family owned businesses. Please help support them. All you have to do is walk in and demonstrate a passion and respect for music and you’ll see that same passion reflected back. Great people, that’s all I’m sayin’
