If your in the area then fine go here but otherwise go to the other store up-island. Small store along with small selections of food and goods. Felt kinda dirty and worn out.

I shop here quite a bit because it’s only place to go on Martha’s Vineyard for organic food. Good luck finding fresh produce in the winter. I only shop here because it’s the only place to find organic meets and upper scale organic items. I am rating them based of the people they have working there. They hire people for cheap labor that are not legal in the US, some are rude and not nice but mainly their completely incompetent. I suppose hiring people that you can take advantage of is a huge advantage for the owners. I try not to shop at Cronig’s but sometimes have no choice as it’s all that is around. I do go online and have all my vitamins and dried goods like, cereal, bars etc. shipped directly to me at half the cost. All my meets and frozen items I buy at Cronigs and produce Morning Glory farm when they are open. If you will be visiting MV try to do your shopping ahead of time as they love to rip off the seasonal people by jacking up their prices!!!

After hearing so much about how nice Cronig’s in WT was, I was very disappointed in the messiness and prices — totally crazy! Yes, they have most staples(and a plethora of bottled waters) and it’s great to have a grocery store on this end of the island, but still — it’s crazy. We ran in for some snacks and drinks before a play at the amphitheater, and I was truly shocked by the condition of the store –onion skins all over the floor, things arranged hap-hazardly on the shelved and super-crowded aisles — and I honestly couldn’t wait to get out. I know they’re locally-owned and operated, but c’mon, guys –at least TRY to do better than the S&S in Edgartown!

There are only a couple of places on Martha Vineyard that you can shop at and it does resemble a regular supermarket. Cronig’s is one of them and I could get most of my things here but the prices are very high for a regular supermarket. They don’t sell alcohal here so don’t even bother to look at. I would normally do half of my shopping here and do the other half on farms or at farmer market.

Not as much selection as their store in Vineyard Haven, but they still have bulk items like flours and grains. This is more of a convenience stop for folks on the far end of the Island. Still, the folks here are nice, the store is clean, and you can get your essentials here.

Amazing selection of foods, with some difficult-to-find brands. Focuses on natural and organic products but the prices are CRAZY! I only go there if I absolutely have to.

Yes, it is horribly overpriced. Wicked. The first time I came here, I left with two bags and paid almost $ 100 for what was in them. I was not buying truffle oil and caviar. I was totally appalled. Once you get over the shock of the prices — it took me a very long time– you’ll start to enjoy coming here. You will see all of your friends(and I like to hope for a sighting of my latest crush). They really should have a little eating area/coffee shop spot so we could sit down and chat. They feature local produce, jams and jellies, soups, bread, pies and eggs. They also have some fantastic specialty items including my favorite hummus, Bobbi’s Garlic Hummus. At $ 8, it is a luxury for me but worth it. I have been trying to duplicate it at home– so far I have not come close. Cronig’s is also the best place to come for vegan and gluten free products. The owners are very involved in the community. They support most of the local non-profits in a big way. There’s a huge bulletin board out front where you can find all kinds of information. Do you need a boat, a house cleaner, an apartment, a date, a cord of wood, a band member? Look here. I also find the people who work here to be extraordinarily patient and respectful. Hats off to them. They must have to deal with all kinds of chaos and rudeness during the summer. If you visit the Vineyard, you’ll probably find yourself at Cronig’s. Just admit that you’re going to be taking a hunk out of your retirement fund and enjoy yourself.

Cronig’s: MV as Whole Foods: Cambridge. You want Ben and Jerry’s frozen yogurt? You want kettle chips? You want gourmet cheese? Of course you do. Prepare to spend at least $ 75.

The biggest secret for lunch on the island! I was sick of getting porked at lunch while working over here and can’t really bring mine. I went in figuring I’d just get a crummy premade sandwhich to tide me over(they have those too!). When I saw the deli had a menu board advertising fresh sammiches. Today was Italian roast beef, so I ordered and gambled. The price wasn’t posted so I guessed it would be about $ 8 at least. So I get a medium size sub about 2″ of lean roast beef, any topping or bread you want for $ 4.79! Yes, I said four seventy nine on Martha’s Vineyard! I felt like a felon, but a happy and sated felon. Considering a V8 and a bfast sandwich on the boat is $ 9, Cronigs is giving stuff away. Yes, the regular grocery is more than the mainland markets. Hello??? this is an island(Captive audience=hiway robbery) deal with it like everyone else but revel in the good deal when you find one.

The supermarkets are quite bad everywhere on the island. Cronig’s definitely tries to mimick Whole Food. But it doesn’t work. For example, Edy’s ice cream almost $ 10 when it is $ 6.50/$ 2.50 at Stop & Shop. Most of the items are overpriced. But you can get the good meat(slighly overpriced) with more choices. The deli is not so popular, just a bun with sliced boarhead hams and that is $ 6.50. To me, the sustaining factor is that they allow the wealthy family to create a charge account so that their servants can shop for summer cocktail parties. And, I hear that the owner is from the island, which I don’t care much. It is not an organic market or gourmet shop, so, why should you pay 30−50% more for the already 15−20% high priced products in other places? We need Trader Joe Super Store to beat all this BS.

EXPENSIVE(of course.) but still leaps and bounds better than Stop & Shop. You will see literally everyone you know while shopping, and it will take a long time. On the plus side, I have to say the deli is VERY fast at both locations. I love fast deli!
