We’ve been to all the Chinese places in town this is the best by far. Very fresh. Great service. Clean. Nice Chinese music. We will come again. THEDUMPLINGS R AMAZING

They serve the best dim sum I’ve had in RI. Highlights on my meal there included the steamed bun with juicy pork(really xiaolongbao), sticky rice in lotus leaf(has a savory meat and mushroom filling), and AMAZING custard steamed buns which I will now crave obsessively. These are pillowy and light – they handle steamed buns exceptionally well – about the size of an egg, and filled with a mild vanilla custard. My husband and I shared the Peking duck, which was served with plain steamed buns(perfect fluffy pillows), mooshu pancakes, shredded scallions, and some really good hoisin sauce. The duck was cooked perfectly, the skin was, thin, crisp and toasty brown. I’ll definitely be back!

The food here is good but it is not a great first impression when the order is wrong, and then you call and they can’t understand enough English to fix the problem. That is not acceptable. If you are charging for it you need to know how to communicate with people enough to get it right. The number 18 combo was good. The beef lo mein was just ok. I really wanted a good custard bun but was instead given red bean paste buns, not at all the same thing. If I order from here again, I will either eat in or order at the counter so I can show them what I am ordering, and then I will double check it before I leave. I did stop in another time for takeout. Good beef with mixed vegetable and custard buns. I do like that you can get dim sum anytime here. So far this place has the best combinations that I have found. It is hard to find a place that has good entrée, rice, and egg roll.

We drove back from RI beach and was looking for a Chinese restaurant. This was it, and we hit the jackpot on the food. The service staff was very patient answering our question. We wanted authentic Chinese food, and she brought us another menu. Much better. Very authentic. We started our meal with some din sum, fried pork dumping, the best I’ve ever had, and steed dried shrimp rice cake, excellent. Vegetable soup was clean and tasty. Great sauces, too. Steamed sea bass was heavenly; was not stink like other restaurants prepare it. Sautéed cuttlefish was very start if was a little tough side. If you crave the authentic Chinese food, this place is it. Of course, the other menu has the usual American Chinese dishes. We will be back here, again, soon.

We stopped in here due to Unilocal reviews and my brother had mentioned a place and this turned out to the one. We were there for the Dim Sum. We have been here twice on the way to the beaches in the area now. The food is very good. The shrimp/beef/cilantro chow fun(rice noodle) were some of the best I have had. The noodle is freshly made and very light. The pork noodle I was expecting char sui(roast pork) in it, but was seasoned ground pork like the beef noodle. I thought the lo main gai was good not great, same on the sui mai. The lo bak goh was very good as was the har gau. The wife(from Guangzhou) liked the maa tai gow. No BBQ pork bun on weekdays it seems. We also got the Beef chow foon. We will stop here on any future trips to the area, that is for sure.

What I liked about this place was the wide selection they had available on their menu(pretty large menu). They also happen to serve dim sum at all hours of the day. Unfortunately we must have gone at a pretty bad time(right after late lunch and before dinner time) so a lot of what we wanted from the dim sum menu were either unavailable or sold out for the day. The rice rolls for examples the waitress informed us that they stop selling at 4pm, so make sure you get in there before then if you wanted some! The food came out relatively quick, but a little disappointed with the quality. The shrimp dumplings had a soggy skin and they weren’t served with the sweet soy sauce that typically accompanies them at all other dim sum joints. The popular chicken feet dish had a delicious sauce but the meat was way overcooked, with the skin practically falling off the bones. But the har gao was delicious and the beef chow fun was also very well done. The chow fun wasn’t too salty nor oily with the wide noodles soaked with just the right amount of sauce. We also got a spicy cuttlefish dish loaded with veggies and cooked in a pretty traditional chili sauce. The food is just ok, but service was good, the waitress was very nice, providing alternatives to the dishes they either ran out or didn’t serve at that hour which was why they lost a couple of stars there.

Some of the best Chinese food in the northeast. Very authentic, they have chow fun(flat rice noodles), the best part they have dimsum all the time. Take it from a Chinese guy from SF Bay area. It’s authenic and the variety is large. Foodies give the dimsum a try.

Ordered takeout. Hands down, worst Chinese food ever. I had General Tso’s Chicken and steamed dumplings. Dumplings had very gristly sausage in it. Chicken was very, very poor quality– stringy and mostly crunchy overcooked. My egg roll was burned, black actually. Fried rice was greasy, overcooked. My GF’s food was bland and tasteless. Not a good experience.

We expected better. This is what gets 4 stars in Rhode Island? I ordered shrimp in garlic sauce which had a hot pepper next to it on the menu and asked for it «extra spicy.» The sauce tasted more like duck sauce than garlic and it wasn’t hot ATALL. The shrimp were tasteless and there was too much celery! My husband ordered spicy chicken in a sauce and at least his was faintly spicy. The fried rice wasn’t bad, but the egg rolls were still slightly frozen inside. 4 stars??? And someone said«authentic» Chinese food? Not what we were served! We’re looking for great Chinese food — like Oceanview in Narragansett. They’re trying to close up shop so we need a replacement and this was not it!!!

People must be Unilocaling after pounding a bunch of MaiTais… there is no way this is 4 stars. The pineapple fried rice is good, but the menu is the same(and the food) as every other mediocre Chinese place. Atmosphere is almost non-existent and the service is good, but there is nothing special about any of it. Not being a dick, but seriously… it’s average.

It is the first Dim Sum place I went to after moving to CT from NYC and and have been going here now for over 14 years, Great Dim Sum and many traditional authentic Chinese dishes are as good as NYC. Two of my favorites is there Barbecue Duck and Beef Chow Fun. It’s a 30 minutes drive but always worth the trip.

Best crispy chicken in town. Don’t forget to order one day ahead since they are going to marinated over 24 hours. It’s so juice on the inside and well seasoned. Don’t forget to order their lobster. Since the lobster in Rhone island is all wild catch. Yes, you don’t need to go to Maine to get that lobster. So the lobster is a Must try item. The meat is firmed and sweet, even on the claws. I usually don’t like the texture of the claws(lobster tail is only part I eat)

We came here to try their dim sum. We had: Shuimai(shrimp and pork dumpling): tastes very good and they actually put the whole piece of shrimp on the top on the dumpling. One order has 4 dumplings. Pork bun: Very good. My husband thought that the pastry part was a little thicker than what he is used to, but that is actually my favorite part of any steamed bun. The pork itself has the really yummy sweet sauce. One order has 3 buns. House style Fried Tofu: It is 3 pieces of crispy fried tofu with pork on top and sitting in a sauce. My husband really enjoyed that dish. Fried Taro dumpling with shrimp and pork: Sooooo crispy! The filling is very traditional. We also ordered pork and preserved egg congee: We really liked that the egg and pork were not too salty and it has big pieces of pork. This bowl of congee is definitely enough for two people all by itself.(We brought the leftovers home for the next day’s breakfast). The restaurant was empty, but it was probably because we came at an odd time between lunch and dinner. Our sever was very friendly and helpful with answering all of our questions. She even went to the kitchen to find out all the ingredients they use for the dipping sauce because we asked her because it was so good. Overall we enjoyed the food and will probably go back again.

It only took me about a week or two to head down to Westerly for dim sum once I learned that there was a restaurant that made it. I was happy to hear that they had nai wong bao on the menu — which was noticeably absent from my other new dim sum spot in West Warwick. I had intended to try the Chinese bakery in Westerly, primarily to see if they made nai wong bao — but since it was on the menu at Golden Chopstix, I figured I’d save the bakery stop for another Westerly visit. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, but he had absolutely no knowledge of the dim sum dishes, which was very frustrating. We ordered a pretty wide assortment of dim sum, most of which was pretty good. We also had the salted crispy squid appetizer which was quite tasty. We almost missed the squid as our waiter didn’t know they made that dish… but luckily — I found it in the appetizer section of the menu. I knew I had seen it on their online menu. We had the shrimp rice noodles which were okay — but not what I wanted. Our waiter informed us that it was a misprint on the menu — which would have been nice of him to mention when we ordered it, but okay — he did say he knew nothing about the dim sum. The sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf was tasty and served in very small portions. The size was actually perfect as that dish is often large and a bit much when you’re trying to have a little bit of many things. The stuffed peppers were different than any other rendition of that dish I’ve had before. They used hot peppers and stuffed them with ground beef — which was the deliciously different surprise. The taro dumplings and siu mai were both tasty. The cilantro pork dumpling was super flavorful and was probably my favorite dim sum for the day. We doubled down on desserts since the bakery was out, and ordered the red bean paste bun and nai wong bao. The red bean bun has nice flavor but was very different from what I was used to getting in Little Tokyo LA. It was similar in appearance to a scallion pancake only it was stuffed with red bean paste. I was expecting the small, golden pillow-like disc stuffed with paste. The nai wong bao was steamed and I’m pretty sure was previously frozen and store bought– sub par and also very disappointing. All in all Golden Chopstix was pretty good, and I would go there again if I were in town, but if I’m making a special trip for dim sum — I would go up to West Warwick. If I do happen to make it back — I hope our waiter will have acquired some more knowledge about the menu — or would be willing to hand the table off to someone who is familiar with the dishes — like I asked for immediately upon being informed that he knew nothing about what we were there for. It was absolutely refreshing to find another Chinese restaurant in RI with more authentic — less Americanized offerings.

I go here for the dim sum. It’s not like Boston or New York City where they have the dim sum pushed around on carts, piping steaming hot. I mean there’s not enough business or demand for the dim sum push carts. But I do know that they make most of the food here fresh to order. I have ordered the(dried) shrimp filled broad rice noodles from the Asian market next door and they make it here at Golden Chopsticks. I always thought the rice noodles were premade/store bought until one day I waited for my order instead of coming later in the day and boy was I shocked to get nice warm rolled rice noodles. I go to Boston every once in a while for dim sum and I was born in New York City where I ate dim sum weekly. I can tell you the quality is really good. This place also has my favorite ever Dragon’s Talons(fung jow). That’s an exotic dish so newbs be forewarned. A few great dim sum dishes to try are: Broad rice noodles with shrimp or pork(Cheung fun) Savory fried dumpling(ham Sui gohk). Deep fried chewy dumpling filled with a savory blend of meats and veggies. Egg custard buns.(Nai Wong bao). Creamy custard in a pillowy soft bun. ** all pronunciations are Cantonese. Another great dish that I order every time I go to dim sum is beef chow mei fun(gawn chao gnau hauh). It’s flat rice noodles stir fried with beef and scallions and bean sprouts. This dish comes out of the kitchen almost instantly so it’s almost like an appetizer for our dim sum. It yields enough for about 5 one cup servings. And it’s about $ 10. It’s not a dim sum dish but our family orders it every time.

Went back to further explore the Dim Sum Menu. Here are some impressions: Fried Crispy Shrimp Roll: Shrimp ground to a purée, seasoned and wrapped in a delicate Filo like dough and then deep fried. Nice dish, the shrimp quite al dente made this way. Served with a plain mayonnaise which I would have like to seen tweaked up a bit but other than that, an enjoyable snack. Pan Fried Leek and Shrimp Cake. Tasty bits of shrimp and chopped leeks in a round dumpling pan fried. Very tasty variation on dumplings and served with a nice dipping sauce. Steamed Red Bean Paste Bun: I have always passed on these and now regret having done so. The combination of the thick, sweet and almost meaty red bean paste and the soft pillowy bun was the surprise of the evening. Could easily see having these in the morning or as a afternoon snack with tea. Steamed Cilantro Pork Dumpling: Dumplings with a nice flavor of cilantro for those of us who love that herb. It is also interesting to note that they make their dumplings with rice dough, not the usual wheat flour. This explains why several reviewers complained of the dumplings and wontons being ‘mushy’ or ‘gelatinous’. I guess those folks are unfamiliar with the more translucent rice variety of dumplings. Anyway, these were very good. Steamed Spare Ribs: These are far away from what we might think of as spare ribs in this country and I can say with some assurity that the vast majority of folks would return these in disgust. These are fatty, steamed rib bits with lots of little bones and no sauce other than the natural juices of the meat topped with a few slices of chilis and fermented beans. Unctuous, gelatinous, and pale, they certainly won’t appeal to to the mainstream. On the other hand if you are one of those gourmet types who love exotic bits of the animal, go for it. I enjoyed them, but maybe just this once. We also had the stir fried snow pea tips which are always excellent if they have them and quite a healthy addition to any Chinese meal as well as the vegetables with egg noodles dish off the Chinese Menu. All in all a very exotic meal for this part of the world and greatly appreciated by those of us tired of the same old sweet gingery sauce covering everything at most Chinese places. Once again, highly reccomened for the Chinese Menu and the Dim Sum.

Pretty good Chinese food as far as Rhode Island goes. I’m a big fan of their huge menu, especially since they have tons of more traditional food available. The staff was very friendly, and the waitress was more than willing to explain dishes when asked. Truth be told we got a light meal here, and I thought it was very good. I’m most likely going to go back at a different date and try something like the Shark Fin Soup, which I haven’t had in ages.

We were in Westerly the other day and I commandeered the family sedan to Golden Chopsticks. Since I’ve been reading the good things on Unilocal,I felt it was a good time to check it out for myself. Don’t let the brightly lit strip-mall look fool you — the food here is a huge step up from your average Chinese restaurant. I asked our waitress for the Chinese menu, and she took the time to explain dishes, make suggestions, and answer our questions. We tried some items from the dim sum menu, some from the real Chinese menu(written in Chinese with English translation) and some from the regular menu for our sons. The dim sum dishes were superb. One was a leek and shrimp dumpling that was crispy on the outside and tender and bursting with flavor inside. I’d go back just for more of those! The other dishes were all very good to excellent, and the barbarians(teens) liked their food very much. I’ve eaten many times in a number of places in both NY’s and Boston’s Chinatowns, and Golden Chopsticks would be a very solid restaurant in either. For Rhode Island, it’s freakin’ awesome.

This is my go-to dim sum place. It’s in a decent location with plenty of parking. They have three menus: Chinese, dim sum, and the second special Chinese menu. If you get the second menu(have to ask) it’s all authentic Chinese food. I studied abroad in China in college, and it’s the closest I’ve seen to the food I had there. I generally go here for dim sum only, though friend’s I’ve been with have gotten Chinese dishes(General Tso’s, beef with peapods), and they’re all decent. The prices are reasonable, and they have authentic dishes like turnips with tripe. They get excited if you order in Cantonese, too. My staples are the jian dui(sesame ball filled with red bean paste), char siu bao(doughy ball with meat filling), mala dofu(fried homestyle tofu), wu gok(taro root dumpling), fu pei ha gun(fried shrimp), and siu mai(pork in wonton wrapper). They also have bubble tea, with a bunch of different flavors, which is one of my favorites. I get Taro, but they have honeydew, coconut, mango, lychee… Pop on over to the Chinese market next door to stock up on goodies when you’re done eating!
