The fish comes from Cor-J in Hampton Bays, nothing could be fresher. Place is small but sushi is good so I guess that’s all that counts. Parking can sometimes be an issue during the day so the later you go for dinner the easier that gets. Typical japanese restaurant prices

The best sushi place in eastern Suffolk. Yoko always treats her customers so well. It’s family run with fresh seafood, need I say more. We have been coming here for 6 years and will keep on doing so. The rock shrimp, wasabi shumai, and gyoza are our favorite. I recommend the wakatake(not sure if I spelled it correctly) if you want a beautifully smooth and flavorful sake.

Good morning everyone, I eat here often and the reason I eat here often is it is simply the best sushi in eastern Long Island. I have been eating sushi for 35+ years of the 43 I’ve been around, when I believe Kurofune was one of the first sushi restaurants on Commack rd in Commack. I haven’t been there in many years but I believe I have tried many and if not most of the sushi places in Suffolk county and Sushi 1 is hands down the best east of William Floyd parkway and probably much further(I just cannot think of another significant road that runs north/south right now). Being that I have eaten at many different sushi establishments over the years there is one common issue I have found consistent, poor service. I have been coming to Sushi 1 for years and they have made strides to improve this issue and have. It seems common place in Japanese restaurants that the service is not up to snuff as some of their Italian and Chinese counterparts. This I cannot explain but what I do know that the staff has been there a while and they care about what they are doing. There hasn’t been a night(that I have been there) where the owner isn’t behind the sushi bar making sure everything is perfect and his wife on the small dining floor doing the same. If you are looking for quantity over quality this is NOT your place. Entrees are expensive and portions a bit on the smaller side than perhaps some of the sushi factories up west. But why do I pass 2 – 3 sushi places from my home in Baiting Hollow to go to Sushi 1? Simply put, because it’s the best and has been for years. Besides the sushi the marinated black cod is a must try. Also the yellow tail collar in lemon and sea salt. Enjoy… –LS

Not bad at all. Sushi is fresh, pretty good rolls, sake nice and hot, excellent fried banana, will go again. The place is real small and is a neighborhood favorite so getting a table right away is hit or miss on weekends.

Having eaten here several times over the years(quality meals can often make up for their below-average service), I gave a call requesting info on where Sushi 1 was getting its fish these days(considering Japan’s Fukushima disaster is leaking crazy radiation into the Pacific on a daily basis, many have stopped eating seafood coming from the area… for now, at least). Though the owner(?) of Sushi 1 was forthcoming about where the fish originated(all over, really — Japan, the Gulf, locally, California…), he laughed condescendingly and responded with ‘Whatever,’ when I answered his own questions(seriously, it was really rude). While we could ‘eat around’ the Pacific-based seafood at his restaurant this evening, I think we might just head over to Tony’s Asian Fusion instead. Not really up for giving money to a proprietor who mocks his patrons’ concerns.

Had a dinner for 12 people and they were a little unorganized but the food was very good and the service was very friendly. I would definitely come back here again.

Great local sushi joint run by a Japanese family — pops behind the sushi bar as master of the sushi and other raw fish delectables, and mom is serving the customers. On occasion, you’ll also see their gorgeous daughter. Totally sweet people. The food is great, authentic but also pleasing for the local tastes. If you’re in for the sushi & sashimi, and if you’re feeling adventurous and loose with your wallet, best to ask them to do an «omakase,» or chef’s choice. We usually sit at the sushi bar to get the sushi experience, plus it’s fun watching them prepare everything, and whenever we see something interesting prepared and ask them what it is, the chef will shrug and say, «It’s just something I made up.» Yeah, I want that! Fish has ALWAYS been fresh and great, and if you’re confused about what to get, just ask them what they recommend, and they can come up with a list, many of them seasonal, local and fresh caught. Place is small and cozy — sushi bar seating is around 6 – 8, and tables seat around 20 – 30. I’ve seen people come by themselves, with couples, with families — very comfortable in any situation, totally casual. A lot of great cooked stuff as well — your udon, tempura, karaage(deep fried chicken), agedashi tofu(deep fried tofu), etc. A nice, albeit small, selection of sakes as well. If you’re interested in something other than what’s on the menu, ask them and they might have a little treat or surprise«under the counter.» Really the only place around our area like this.

Sushi 1 is a small place so make sure to make a reservation in advance. Sushi 1 has always been good with reservations — the tables are always ready with no wait. With that being said, service isn’t the always best due. As far as sushi, the rolls and sashimi are both delicious. You can order anything on the menu and won’t be disappointed. I really like the Sushi Tempura and Dragon Roll. I never had a bad roll here. Great place.

Um. Yum. Such beautiful and delicious creations come from behind the glass of the sushi bar. The chefs will make you whatever you want even if it’s not on the menu. The teriyaki dishes are well done and not too salty, which I typically find at other joints. The service is friendly, albeit a little haphazard on weekend nights.

This has been a family favorite for years, my dad has known the owner for a long time. It’s also a fave among Westhamton locals — I went in for dinner tonight and recognized faces on half the people there from past visits. In the past year or two they started offering a bento box option, which is a pretty great deal. $ 22 for salad, steamed dumplings, edamame, two sushi rolls of your choice(basic options) and ice cream. It’s a ton of food by the time you’re done! All their specialty rolls are amazing and there hasn’t been a roll here that I haven’t liked. I saw one review recommending against the spicy tuna roll(whaaa!!!) — this is one my faves! Along with the blackened tuna and eel(handroll). Their tempura rolls are all very good, too. Like chicken terryaki? Theirs is killer! They’ll also roll you anything special that you’d like to have, hand rolls, etc. Before you leave you MUST also order the banana tempura dessert.

I love this place! The fact that it’s literally 2 minutes away from my house helps, too. The family that owns it is very nice. I can’t comment on the service because I’ve never actually eaten in — I always take out. It’s not too expensive and food is ready promptly. They make my absolute favorite roll, Futomaki, just the way I like it — big and delicious.

When I’m traveling alone where I don’t know anyone, I usually seek out sushi bars as places to have satisfying meals and feel comfortable dining alone. Last week, Sushi 1 in Westhampton Beach did not disappoint. The chefs were attentive and friendly, and the midweek, post-season atmosphere was soothing and pleasant. The smoky miso soup was among the best I’ve ever had, and my two sushi selections were excellent. I loved the spider hand roll with crispy crab. While I was eating I watched the chefs make some of the prettiest sushi arrangements I’ve ever seen.

It’s very small, probably a dozen tables. There is a sushi bar. Food: delicious; service: a little disorganized. You’ll get everything you’ve ordered, you just can’t get fussy. Accept that your sushi options in the area are limited and this place is not a bad option at all. Once you’re at a table just peruse through the pretty darn reasonably priced menu, a full bar, and don’t get upset when 3 different people ask you if you’re ready to order. They won’t rush you once the order’s is in, they’re just trying to keep it efficient. Good option for take out.
