After visiting an LA orthopedic surgeon who shall remain unnamed, we felt that it would be best to find a less«greedy» and more skilled professional in the Westlake Village area. That would be at SCOI, a very large group practice in various locations of the Coñejo Valley. The wifey was operated on twice by spine specialist Dr Brian Grossman — first, a 3-level ACDF(a total rebuild of her neck, double fusion, prosthetic implant and all) complete with six weeks in a hard plastic collar. Six months later, a hole was drilled and a disk shaved in her lumbar area. Two weeks later, wifey is on the treadmill for the usual 90 minutes and doing her Janet Jackson moves in front of the astonished(and probably slightly concerned) Dr Grossman. I’ve gone with her to every appointment, both pre– and post-op, and Dr Grossman is not only a top notch surgeon, he is a very nice man who appreciates a good joke. He saved my wife’s life, more or less. Had she waited and had a car accident, her neck might have snapped completely. I will be grateful to him forever, and so will she!

I made an appointment with Dr. Grossman for my fiancé who is suffering from a herniated disc in the C5 area, mild arthritis, and disc degeneration. At the time, we didn’t know all that, we just knew he was bed-ridden for the past two weeks from the pain. My fiancé had an MRI done in 2010 revealing a herniated disc, and after recently seeing an urgent care doctor who suggested he get a new MRI, we went to Dr. Grossman at the Spine Institute in Simi Valley, assuming getting a new MRI would be the next step. He prescribed physical therapy(scheduled for two weeks after the appointment), and an epidural(scheduled for three weeks after the appointment) based on the 3-year old MRI. We asked what he should do in the mean time for all the pain, suggesting«should he just keep taking Advil?» Dr. Grossman responded, «Oh yes, that’s a good idea.» We weren’t expecting drugs, but when you are suffering for two weeks straight with no end in sight, you expect some sort of fast-acting plan after taking the time and money to see an orthopedic. Maybe he cared, but his attidue and diagnosis did not reflect a caring attitude. We cancelled all future appointments with him. In the time it would have taken to do Dr. Grossman’s prescribed physical therapy and epidural, my fiancé has seen Dr. Ghilarducci with Ventura Orthopedics in Oxnard, had a new MRI taken, and will be receiving his epidural this week(all within a week’s timeframe). Also, the new MRI revealed the area of the herniated disc, which was different from the 2010MRI, along with the disc degeneration and arthritis. Needles to say, we will not be returning to Dr. Grossman in the future.
