This place is no frills. I have been going to Malarkey’s since the early 90s when they were over on Wayne Rd. Used to love going for a burger and tall beer. The last few times I’ve visited, the food quality has really not been great. The space is worn and not super clean. The waitstaff is still friendly and nice. After 9pm, they have a very inexpensive appetizer menu. $ 14 got us 3 apps and a couple drinks.

Malarkey’s is a great place to have a beer or two while you and your boys wait for another one of your boys to get off work before the night begins. I love how their beer is served cold in a clean glass. Your probably saying, hey Scotty 2 f-n Hotty, don’t all bars serve beers cold in clean glasses. My answer is, whelp, you’ld be surprised. No surprises here though. It’s all good and tasty and never skunky. They have nice TVs that play sports, which is good… although one time, on a big TV, they had some Winter skiing BS on instead of football, but they changed the channel, so I guess we are straight here. I love the ample space. If I’m at a bar, I kinda wanna be away from the masses of people. I usually chill in the back by the pool tables and the dart board. I love playing darts here. It’s relaxing. They have tables right by the gaming area where you can rest your drinks, which is good. Your probably thinking, Scotty the G… don’t all bars have tables by the gaming areas. My answer is whelp… you’ld be surprised, but no surprises here, the tables are where they should be. Another plus is that the tables don’t get in the way of the pool tables. Sometimes I be hittin people in the head with my pool stick, no fucks given, but not here. They do good with the spacing. I never had the food here, but I have only heard good things about it. Great deals like cheap Coneys and cheap tacos that taste good, so that’s good. I like this place. You can even play Blackjack and poker in the room next door. They have lotto machines and you can cash in scratch offs. I hope one day they get a scratch off machine. They do have pull tabs. Malarkey’s is probably Westland’s best bar.

Trashy place. The waitresses are nasty. Quite frankly… I would be embarrassed to be seen in this place again.

Good burgers. Nice choice of beverages. Pool tables. Lots of indoor seating. Service can be spotty as can be the food. Fries come out done most of the time. Prettymuch a beer and burger joint.

Great food! Great prices friendly staff. Could use more screens in dining area, but other than that just a great hometown bar.

When the new owner took over a few years ago place went to crap, fired all the regular waitresses and hired family. Friday night’s you couldn’t cram Ur butt in and after he took over you could shoot a cannon down and not hit anyone… but here lately things have picked up… still the great bar food,(burgers, fries, sandwiches and cheap chicken wings) COLD beer on tap, and a great selection of bottled beer… we”ve went to other bars and found none that can beat malarkeys’s prices… shhhhhh don’t tell anyone… I enjoy getting a seat right away!

Meh is the best and only thing I can say about this place. It’s been thru a few owner changes and the food shows. This bar is a 5 minute drive so it’s always first to come up when we get hungry. The food is what keeps us away. Burgers are hockey pucks and they use FROZENPREPACKEDBURGERS. Which in my eyes is like satan. Cooks can’t cook and they use poor ingredients. Wait staff is subpar and nothing special to look at. My advice find a new place to eat at. New owners plus bad food equals bad night out and angry at the end of your meal. I’ve came here since I was in high school 01′ till now and this will be my final chance I give to this dump.

This is one of the best places for a burger and a beer. Malarkey’s is an icon that’s been in Westland for years. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. I will be coming back.

Malarkey’s Pub is a great place that my friends and I go to once a month or so. The staff are decently friendly and it gets more fun as the night gets later(or i’m just drunker one or the other, haha.)

Wasteland’s finest. Small and cramped. Lots of wannabe thugs and trashy girls. But hey, drinks are cheap.

OK, so you are going to wonder why/how I could go from a 5 star to 1 star. Well, me too. But this wasn’t just one bad experience. The last three times I have been here I have either had to send my meal back or just let it sit there and say«I’m over this place.» The chefs have proven to be extremely inconsistent — either over cooking or undercooking the burgers. Normally the wait staff is good/great, but even that is inconsistent. There is one girl there(don’t/won’t name names) who is pretty much a really really terrible waitress. Every single time. I’m really heartbroken over losing this as my burger place — but it’s just not worth my time and expectations to go back. Tonight, besides my requested«medium rare» burger being medium well, the service was terrible and never received requested items as simple as a lemon for water, mayo for the burger and some ranch. Eek! Methinks not. Is right… sadly.

Burgers on Wednesday are now buy one, get one free. On Tuesday/Thursday sandwiches are $ 4.99, which includes a plain burger. The service was excellent! The Onion rings upgrade was delicious as well, even though there were only 5 or maybe 6 rings in the basket. The burgers were a major disappointment though. We’ve been to Malarkey’s Westland since it was on Wayne Road proper and always have enjoyed an excellent burger. Yesterday’s were quite well done instead of medium, and just didn’t seem to have the flavor we’ve come to expect from Malarkey’s. Big disappointment, but I’ll be back and review again before I give up on our normal expectations. We didn’t complain, but I can only go 3 stars this time and almost 4 because of the attentive and friendly service.

It’s been a few years since I have been to Malarkeys. I was truly disappointed. I had a craving for a bar burger and had good ones in the past, but this time it was just awful. The burger tasted like it was cooked from a grill that was not cleaned in months. The french fries tasted like the grease wasn’t changed for weeks. The salad was something that came out of a bag you’d buy from the grocery store — very little lettuce and a lot of cabbage, carrots, and blah. The restaurant was dirty. Menus were not cleaned, bathrooms also needed to be remodeled. The carpet was dirty and the tile by the kitchen pickup counter was also broke. Literally, I felt I needed to take a shower when I left. Sorry to say, I won’t be back. This review is by no means a reflection of the service. The service was average.

We hadn’t been here in a while, but Ken fondly remembered their fish and chips… so I bought a gift certificate from to please my man.(you already know this isn’t going to go well, with the 2 star rating, right?) Service remains subpar. Our first time there we stood in the doorway for a good(painful) 5 minutes, watching the waitresses talk to each other and clown around before someone finally came and got us. This latest time we knew better and just seated ourselves. I ordered the French Dip and the au jus tasted like they’d added quite a bit of water to stretch it rather than make more. I subbed onion rings for the french fries… but I got french fries. Oh, but our waitress didn’t forget to charge me for the rings! I told her about the mistake on my plate and she kinda shrugged and walked away. Ken’s fish and chips were good, and that’s why Malarkey’s isn’t getting a single star. OK beer selection. Took forever to receive our drinks. We never got the popcorn we asked for(which was 10 steps from our booth, so maybe I should have just gotten it myself?). And the worst thing is that they were not busy. Practically dead. Just lousy service. NO need to go back.

Malarkey’s is a classic sports bar type place. The Southgate location is quite a bit more glam and roomy than the Westland one but both have equally good food and staffing. The fare is typical but tasty. I really like the French Dip, really good roast beef and swiss, au jus for dipping. The Reuben is tasty, ask for extra dressing on the side though. The Super St. Paddy Melt is pretty yummy and big. Fries are good but substitute onion rings for a real treat. The Steak Bits appetizer is excellent, I recommend them cajun style. You can also get them on a salad and it is tasty. The Super Burrito is huge and a fave of my mother. The Fish and Chips are good and they have numerous steaks that look quite nice. This is a strictly casual place. They feature specials on burgers and beer pretty regularly and that is really the kind of place it is, burger and beer. They have some great specials at lunch and can be a real bargain. Solid fare, good drink specials, clean and happy.

I think you need to be in a certain frame of mind to really enjoy Malarkey’s. It’s pretty much a meat/meet market. That being said, I haven’t had a bad time there, but it’s nowhere I ever really need to go back. I’ve gone there with girls’ nights out and had fun watching single friends do what singles do in these bars, and I’ve even hung out here with my husband while we watched other couples try to hook up. It can be amusing when you know who you’re going home with. Personally, I prefer a low-key bar without the obvious pick-ups, but Malarkey’s always has people there who look like they’re having fun.
