I had been a member of Tru-​Fit Westminster for 6 months before I discovered they had been automatically overcharging me nearly 3 TiMES the membership fee stated on my contract.
The membership fee I agreed to, as stated on my contract, was $ 29/​mo.
When I asked the manager, Greg why he had been charging my bank account $ 79/​mo., he stuttered and replied, «Well … You have been using a locker, haven’t you?»
So … use of a locker is an additional $ 50/​mo??? LoL! I don’t think so!
Greg refused to refund the $ 300 in overcharged fees, I terminated my membership and I filed a dispute with my financial institution.
Incidentally, I only became suspicious after reading all the Unilocal reviews of so many other former members who complained of being overcharged.
At first, I thought, «no, that couldn’t be happening to ME». But sure enough, I was being overcharged too!
The poor reviews for Tru-​Fit Westminster are, indeed legit!

They overcharge me every month and every month they say they’ll correct it, but they don’t end up fixing anything. It’s not worth the hassle.

I’ve been coming here for years, since before it was ever TruFit. I like the gym for the convenience and the reasonable price.
I am deciding to write this review because this gym has gone down hill in a severe way. A majority of the cardio equipment is busted, barely any of the TVs work anymore, the staff does not clean at all, making this place filthy!
I remember when there was a cleaning person on staff that would work her full shift cleaning equipment, mopping floors, etc etc… now you can see the same dirt or gum for a whole week without being touched. I typically use the sports arena and the floor literally has not been cleaned in at least 8 months.
There is an annual «upgrade» fee that is $ 50 per member but there is no upgrade. Myself and many of the other members believe this money goes towards the bottom line of this location, keeping them out of the red and off the corporate radar. If a corporate manager came to this location they would be shocked at how poorly it is run.
There are one or two good trainers on staff but the rest barely pay attention to their clients and don’t correct their form or anything! Shocking to watch.
Additionally, the staff has become un-​personable, detached, and pretty arrogant. I remember when I would be greeted, there were smiles, people recognized you as a regular, now its either a bunch of kids on their phones, bros giving crusty looks, or just nobody around at all.
I honestly think that nothing is going to change at this location until there is a MRSA outbreak from the lack of cleanliness or someone is seriously hurt because the state of disrepair of most of the equipment. I think this place likely has a lawsuit in the near future.
I sure hope that this place can do a 180… Its a shame to have a facility with so much potential be run into the ground by a bunch of people who dont want to do any work.

Lots of broken equipment and very broken management. Please save yourself the frustration.

This is a great gym with cardio, weight machines and free weights. The hours should accommodate everyone who truly wants to work out. The staff is friendly and the variety of classes offered has something for everyone. I love the colors in the actual gym, but the locker room seems dark and dingy to me, which makes me have to push past the feeling of a spa and get out on the floor to exercise! I toured many gyms before joining this one, and I enjoy going here on a regular basis.

I workout regularly and while I do like this gym better than the 24 hour fitness across the street I am likely going to be dropping my membership the coming weeks (when my contract is done). When I signed up a year ago it was a very facility all the equipment worked and was in decent shape. Over the past few months this place has taken a dive. I thankfully have found a treadmill and elliptical that work, but as others have said its not uncommon to have to try 3 or more cardio machines to find one that works. Even the ones that work aren’t in my mind fully functional as the vast majority of the equipment is missing the book/​ipad stand (major for me as I do like to study when doing my cardio) the ones that arn’t missing it at least one of the three stand holders are broken so ipad won’t hold tight and risks falling. As for weight machines most of the time these are in good working order but sometimes are missing pins or the retaining cable on the pin is broken and gets in the way. The past few months 2 out of 3 drinking fountains have been taped off yet I have seen staff walk up and use a finger to use the fountains so they all work perfect yet I have seen a lot more disposable water bottles magically show up that happen to be the brand they sell (with huge overprice). I also have concerns over the cleanliness of the steam room. I use this every day after my workout and multiple times to sit on the bench I have set my hands and felt lumps (not sure what they are and not sure I want to know) plus multiple times the handle has come detached and you have to figure out a way to get out of the steam room. Overall in the next few weeks will be likely switching to Lifetime Fitness

*Staff can be rude and off putting (Plus you never actually know who works there in terms of trainers very unprofessional appearance of staff and be branded as «Country Club» as they market themselves staff should be nice)

*Some members (few) make the entire gym a place you really don’t want to go to (I avoid times when some of them out out, one of them literally eats a can of tuna in the steam room and dry suana after his workout)
*No pool or hot tub (get rid of the «VIP» lockers and put a hot tub in plenty of space)

The never ending gym membership. Good luck canceling your membership. I’ve been trying for weeks When try to cancel they’ll tell you there’s no manager available to give you the paperwork. They take down your information and tell you a manager will call. Nope, hasn’t happened yet.

I’ve always wondered why this gym has such bad reviews. I’ve been a member at this location for many many years, and I think it’s one of the best clubs in the area for the price. I contemplated writing this review because I didn’t want people to catch on and it start getting busy (lol). Yes, some of the cardio machines are broken and have been for awhile, but outside of the stairmasters, there are TONS of treadmills and ellipticals so moving over to the next one isn’t that big of a deal. The place is always clean and the locker rooms are nice. They have a steam room and a sauna which I love — knowing I can sit in the steam room after has been the motivation for me going to the gym at times. They finally got the steam room temp. figured out so it’s not scorching hot when you walk in.
Towels are available at the front so you can grab one when you walk in. The staff are friendly as is the general manager. I’ve worked with a trainer and wish I had the money to continue because she was incredible (thanks Ellen! You rock!). There have been times I’ve stopped other trainers/​staff to ask for help and they’ve never hesitated to show me proper form or how to use a machine.
I’ve taken several classes and enjoyed them. I wish they had more TRX classes because this location doesn’t have many TRX’s (I think only 4) so you have to get lucky to snag a spot on the one day they host it. Probably the only downfall I’ve experienced so far…

If I could give no stars I would– been here 4 months now and have had every months billing messed up. Now we have a $ 100 annual fee to pay that they lied about when I signed up. Waited 4 months for a refund. The GM, Greg, does nothing to help, is just a smart ass, and argues with you. Worst customer service I’ve ever dealt with. Doesn’t matter how nice the gym is when the staff sucks.

It’s pretty frustrating when you call and nobody can answer your question, it always gets passed to Greg the GM. Greg the GM doesn’t return phone calls, and when I finally caught him, he let me know he’d follow-​up on my problem. 3 weeks later still no resolution. Terrible management!

So I still do go to this gym. Even though I was quite upset about the child care hours being cut my children still enjoy it there and now they upgraded a system that you have to swipe your key card to check them in and out. I still don’t go to their classes much because the schedule does not fit mine. The main thing I do like is that the price is reasonable for my whole family to use this no frills gym. The worst thing about the gym is that the equipment is getting quite old and broken equipment are not fixed promptly.

Awesome gym. About the same price as 24 Hour Fitness down the street but you get no crowds, LOTS of machines, no crowds, towel service with qtips, mouthwash and lotion supplied, big open additional gym for various cardio, ropes, crossfit type stuff and deadlifts. Nice people, never crowded. Kids club is teh best if you have kids hands down, they will actually want to go there. Affordable if you get in one one of their deals. My wife loves the bar and yoga classes. Never had a problem in 2 years.

I have been a member of TruFit for over a year now and have had some wonderful experiences but will tell you that I have quite a lot more issues than one should have to endure. I only think it is fair to combine both good and bad reviews about TruFit. Also — I am not someone who goes there for classes, or for the TV on the machines. I am there to work out on the Stairmaster, and lift weights. I don’t care much about having a fancy locker room, or a steam room. As long as the facility is clean and I get my workout in, I am happy.
Good:
They have a lot of equipment
Most of the employees are friendly
The locker room is generally clean and stocked
They have towels
It is not a busy gym in the mornings
Out of the 7 trainers I went through, 2 of them are phenomenal
Bad — The Facility —
A lot of the cardio machines are often broken and it takes time to get them fixed
They don’t refill the soap in the locker rooms
The outlets don’t always work in the locker rooms
They need more Stairmasters
Bad — The Staff —
They do not train their staff to handle any kind of situation — no one can answer any of my questions, they always have to go to Greg
They don’t follow up when they say they will on an issue, I have to call a good 5 times before my questions are answered
The staff generally just stand at the front on their cell phones
Bad — The Trainers —
I had a trainer that asked me to have poor form (he believed this was the new way to do a squat or deadlift) and I had pain in my knees and lower back for weeks
I had a trainer tell me after losing 70lbs that I clearly needed fixed, everything I did was wrong, I clearly eat carbs and asked me if I had fake boobs. I sent an email to the GM, the regional operations manager and received zero response. However, everyone that worked at the gym knew about it and the email I sent and who I was. The trainer still works there…
I had a trainer cancel on me 6 times before I was given another trainer
I had a trainer that was never on time, which took 15 min off of my 30 min session
The trainer that helped me lose 70lbs quit because they stopped paying him
Bad — The finances —
After all the issues I had with the trainers, they didn’t let me cancel my contract
They have charged me twice on multiple occasions
Currently I have been over charged by $ 240 and the billing dept, gm, operations manager hasn’t done anything about it and won’t return the Trainer Manager’s emails/​calls/​text messages
Overall — Go to a different gym. I am really upset that I have another year at this gym. I will be cancelling my contract as soon as they will let me.
Oh and Greg has to be the worst General Manager of any facility I have encountered. When I was trying to sign up, he told me I could take the tour by myself. I also know that if you question him, he will fire you. He has a horrible attitude and doesn’t seem to care about the people keeping him in business.
If I didn’t have to deal with anyone there and could just work out… I would like the gym. But the operations of this gym is horrific. Go somewhere else!

I joined trufit 3 weeks ago and after going to this location and the one in Arvada a couple times a week I feel comfortable giving them a great review. I am confused by all of the negative reviews because I have had nothing but great experiences. I have doña a few training sessions with Chad. The club is nice and clean. They have towels for workouts and showers. The kids club is awesome. And the price is great! After having terrible experiences at 24hr fitness through the years I am happy to find a gym where the staff is friendly and helpful and I don’t feel like I’m in a workout factory.

Had trouble canceling my membership. Less than impressed.

I had fun and became enthusiastic when it comes to working out at the gym!
I was desperate to lose weight but I have no idea where to start or how am I going to proceed with my lifestyle change. After asking my friends, I decided on Tru-​Fit for it seemed like it was the best idea.
I am really impressed with what this gym helped me achieve. Thanks to the staff’s help, I became stronger and more versatile, aside from the fact that I became slimmer. In fact, my legs, arms, buttocks and abdomen have toned down since I have visited this gym. I am very pleased with the investment I had here and most of all I am pleased that everyone here has given me lots of cheers and encouragement.

I’ve been a member of this gym since it opened as Mountainside Fitness years ago. Greg, the manager, doesn’t return calls or answer emails. Therefore, I quit at the first of November when I went in to work out and it took four treadmills to find one that worked. Not talking about the TV’s (which is a HUGE issue also), but the actual treadmills themselves. When I complained, Greg told me I was wrong. That the machines worked just fine, but couldn’t get one of them to run. DONE! After the trainers all quit, they couldn’t get my billing right for 7 months AND the treadmill issues — I“M DONE!!!

I recently cancelled my membership here for several reasons:
1.) The staff here is incredibly rude and standoffish. The guy at the front desk was consistently a jerk, eating his breakfast and not bothering to get up to scan my card. Every single time I had to ask for something like a towel, he acted like he was so put out. And he was constantly checking girls out, which just grosses me out. At least be discreet, dude.
2.) I came here for the yoga studio mostly, but after I tried every single yoga teacher, I was so frustrated! I never, ever even broke a sweat in any of the classes, and having done yoga for years at another gym, I know what I’m missing out on here. The only teacher who was halfway decent was Karl, but he came across arrogant and pompous, which is not what you want in a yoga teacher.
3.) The steam room was never working. Either it was cold (!) or melt-​your-​face-​off hot. Seriously, a law suit waiting to happen. I walked in one day and immediately had a coughing attack and couldn’t breathe, it was so hot. And I love a hot, hot steam room, but this was rediculous.
4.) I rarely had hot water in the shower. I had to take way too many cold showers, and if you have several people showering at the same time, your water heater should be equipped to give everyone hot water.
5.) Like everyone else mentioned, the machines were always broken. One time I literally tried about SIX treadmills before I found one that worked, and of course the TV on that one was busted, but by that time I was so frustrated, I didn’t even care.
Naturally, I got screwed over when I tried to cancel my membership, but whatever! I’m just glad to be out of there. I’m looking into LifeTime Fitness… even though it’s crazy expensive I think it’s worth it after my experience at Tru Fit.

Be still my beating heart. A BUSINESS that wants to make a PROFIT. I’m sitting here laughing at all these unfair reviews (complaints) dragging this gym through the mud. «They cut the kid’s area hours», «They were so much better before», «A runaway stair machine tried to kill me and my whole family», «I have to actually talk to someone to get a towel now», «an accounting error caused me to foreclose on my house and now our family is out on the street» … enough people. There was a reason this place was sold twice.
Yes, it’s true, the gym was better before, but the fact is this location NEVER made a profit before. Paying 8 decent trainers and an ‘Athletic Director’ to sit around on their butts texting isn’t a good business practice. Keeping a daycare open even when there are no kids to watch, isn’t a good business practice. Maintaining and stocking a juice bar that hardly anyone used is not a good business practice. And, believe it or not, a business needs to actually make a profit to survive.
Now with that being said, here is an actual review and not just an online Unilocal complaint.
Good things
— The gym looks newer-​ish, large and doesn’t smell like old sweat socks.
— A/​C is balanced out surprisingly well. Never have had any issues with it being too hot or too cold.
— Cleanish towels. Both small and wash-​rag sizes are provided at the front desk. They often have Q-​tips and body lotion squirreled away in the restroom. (Not always, but more often than not.)
— Atmosphere and décor are pleasing. A couple of neat water features.
— Generally not crowded, even during peak hours. So many people have felt «cheated» by the transition from B-​Fitness to Tru-​Fit and left. I am 100% cool with that. More room for me.
— Plenty of cardio machines and some are connected with personal TVs. I never had to wait for a cardio machine, nor be forced next to a marathoning sweat monster.
— Converted their basketball court to a nice crossfit area with decent equipment.
— Good childcare facilities. Consistent, trustworthy, English speaking child care staff. Not trying to be racist here, but I like it when the attendant speaks clearer English than my five-​year-​old.
— The male-​female ratio is about ⁶⁰⁄₄₀.
— This may be the best part. Free (working) Wi-​Fi. Plenty of bars for cell service. I can stream Netflix, Spotify, and Pandora while there.
— People that go here don’t generally suck.
Bad things
— Gym’s equipment is starting show it’s age. Especially the cardio equipment. You might need to move through 2 — 3 machines to find one that doesn’t stick, click, or squeak.
— Too many unused, niche weight machines. 70% weightlifting area is occupied by seldom used equipment. The smaller free weight area can get crowded while the fancy isolation machines go unused. This drives me insane and is not the best use of the space.
— Overall maintenance has become an issue. Broken lockers, cracked shower heads and burnt out lighting has become the norm, rather than the exception.
— Turnover at this gym is insane and I don’t really know why. But don’t expect to see the same employee stick around for more than a couple of months.
— A good portion of the locker room (¹⁄₃) is closed off for «VIP» lockers. So if you got an extra $ 50 — $ 70 a month to blow on stupid stuff, they’ll take that money and wash your underwear at night. I read once that 70% of people who pay for gym memberships hardly ever use them. I wonder what % is for this «VIP» locker room? I’ve seen a total of 5 people step inside over the course of two years.
— Gym decided to sublet one of the front offices to an «anti-​aging» «doctor». So if you want to start taking steroids or feel you need to cheat your way to a slimmer waist, come pay this guy a few hundred a month and he’ll make it happen. Under normal circumstances, I could care less. However, Tru-​fit has given him a couple large, obtrusive LCD TVs strictly dedicated to pushing his repetitive ads on members. A lot of the cardio machines are labeled with this «Doctor’s» ads too.
— «Promos» and «Special» contracts usually have some «Gym Upgrade» fee hidden within. Mine was an extra $ 100 after 90 days per year. Expect $ 40 — $ 50 in monthly dues.
Conclusion
This is a middle of the road gym. Way less crowded than 24 Hour, Paul Derda Rec Center, and is much cheaper than Lifetime Fitness. It has a small indoor rock wall, but it’s hardly ever used by members. There isn’t a swimming pool, so if that’s your thing you need to look elsewhere. If you’re in close proximity and north of 120, I will recommend. However, I wouldn’t go out of my way to go there. Yes, it was better «back in the day», but isn’t everything?

Do NOT drop your kids off at the Westminster CO TruFit child care!
When I signed up with this gym TruFit had not purchased it. I originally felt incredibly comfortable dropping my kids off at their kids program. In fact, my kids LOVED it! They had a specific protocol in place when I dropped my kids off and picked them up. They made sure that they followed a system that ensured my kids would only be picked up by me. I always walked away knowing that there was a protocol in place that protected my children. When TruFit came on board everything changed! I can drop off and pick up my kids simply by signing my name on a paper that the employees never even look at.
The bigger issue is that my kids have become scared of the child care. They used to love it! They used to beg me every day to go to the gym but then something happened. I don’t know what it was but I can no longer go to TruFit because my kids are SO SO SO scared of the child care.
I tried emailing the person that ran the Westminster location, I expressed my concerns and explained that SOMETHING happend that made my kids not want to even talk about going to the gym BUT HE NEVER REPLIED!
I can’t support a company that has a child care program that doesn’t protect my child! But what’s worse is a company confronted with an issue regarding children (children that are placed in their care) and NEVER even responding to the concern.
I guess if you wanna work out its an ok place but DO NOT USE THE CHILD CARE!!!
