Located on Cass Avenue this place is not at all attractive and for a long time I never knew it was there. Last month I heard about this place from an Indian event and visited this place last week. Sai Saffron chat house offering taste of Indian snacks. We had Bhelpuri, Samosa chat & Aloo Tikki Chat here. Except samosa chat both dishes were absolutely amazing and delivered the same taste as back in India. Service is up to the mark, and avoid noticing the ambiance as they are mainly into catering business. The owner of this place is very humble and friendly. He even offered us the sample of Veggie kebab … Must try!!!

Food is ace and a great value. It’s not luxurious but at $ 2.99 for a samosa chat that in itself is big enough to be a small meal obviously it’s not going to be like the 4 seasons dining room.

Love this place! Definitely one of the best chat places around. Haven’t tried anything I didn’t like. Their dosa, samosa chat, dabeli, special thali, it’s all delicious. Definitely recommend.

This place has gone down like tenpins. Why have they mentioned their number on Unilocal if they cant pick it up even during business hours. They expect people to drive all the way there and check whether it is open or not.

Authentic indian chat !! Very reasonable price. Ambience is average but I don’t mind that for a chat house:)

Mumbai natives rejoice! let me explain what«chat» is. its not idle small talk. pronounced like«chah-t» its basically street food local to Mumbai. It can be light and spicy, filling and delicious, dry or saucy. Its what my mom grew up on, so naturally it has a special place in our lives. The food is executed very nicely. Ideal for carry out for entertaining guests. We ate a whole sampler lunch. vada pav, pav bhajji, manchurian, samosa, samosa-chaat, sev puri, chole bhatura. I especially liked the manchurian and the vada pav. The actual location could use an overhaul, but the establishment is a new one, a family owned start up and they are certainly trying to save for the dining room. They do special catering orders which is very interesting to me! Big indian parties apply here.

I just moved into the city, and I am going to travel out to the burbs for this place. I love it! The samosas are perfect, and I love just ordering items off of the chat menu that I have no idea what they are — what an adventure. Everything is vegetarian — but don’t let that scare off meat lovers. This is a great change of pace at an incredibly reasonable price. And the staff are as nice as they get — and very understanding of those of us who need a little help deciding. ;) Having a party? Get a tray of samosas, and you are guaranteed to be popular — I’ve proven that one several times now, in all kinds of company.

If you want to eat chat items in an authentic indian environment, you have to visit this place. Flies flying around you, no Air conditioning at all, And during summer, your dishes will have extra salt from your dripping sweat. The quality was OK in the beginning but lately it has dropped considerably. I would go to Big suchir for chat. Their place is much neater and they have air conditioning during peak summer.

Being from India i have had street food and tried varieties of Indian Chat, so I definitely know a thing or two Food here is very unhygenic. Out order was made from the batter that was several days old. When my wife complained, they acknowledged and switched out the order with newer ingredients. Duh, do customers have to tell you that to check quality? Ive been wanting to write a review for quite some time. Having been there several times, the quality has not improved by even a single bit Im astonished to know how they obtained the permit to operate the business

Very good Chat and Samosas. I have been to Devon and Other Chat houses in Chicagoland. This in one of the best both in price and taste.

I absolutely love this place. Excellent not to have to take a ride all the way to devon for awesome chaat, and the young lady the window is an absolute delight. If you aren’t familiar with Indian snack, you tell her what you have a taste for and she’s more than happy to help. One of my new favorites!

I kind of feel terrible for writing this review because I’ve gone to Saffron about a half dozen times or so and always have the intention of writing the review and never do. Saffron is great. Everything here tastes authentic and the prices are very reasonable. This is a no-frills location, there is no table service. You’ll order and pickup at the window. There are a limited number of tables, so I’m willing to bet they do a lot of carry out business. It goes without saying that I’ll be back to Saffron soon.

There are times when the standard butter chicken + naan or biryani just won’t do. When it is past the breakfast hour but not lunch yet or past any real meal time but the tummy ain’t done yet… There are times when you cannot decide on the ONE thing you want but you have a general idea of a list of at least 4 that you’d like a bite from… And there are times you wish you were in the by lanes of India, stopping from the next chaat shop to the next chhola bhatura joint… For all those times… presenting…on popular demand… Saffron Sweets & Chat House !!! Can almost be passed off as a hole-in-the-wall from outside but has ample seating for 6 – 7 groups and the magical counter with a menu pasted on top… just like the college canteen! All the stuff prepared right there… fresh and piping hot… Lots of variety and the place seems to have a «learning» mindset… The hostess will always ask for suggestions to do better. We ordered a kaleidoscope of snacks and were pleasantly surprised at the«chat house”-ness of each of them. Nice joint with pleasant service and good variety… Definitely on my list of options… when nothing«regular /standard» would do… PS: Kept it to 4 starts because it still needs to improve the concept, add more items and get the quality even higher… and it sure can!

The food is really great! The Dabeli, Sev Puri, Chhole Bhature, and the Bhel is just so yummmy! The lady at the counter is very polite and attentive. My only criticism is towards the outdated furniture in the restaurant.

So I don’t know much about Indian food, but this place has peaked my curiosity. First of all the samosas were devine! Potato with a tiny bit of spice. Freshly made right before my eyes. A delicious tamarind and a cilantro sauce were served with it. A++ I ordered off their«chat» menu, which appears to be sort of snacky type foods or fast foods. One dish I had was crunchy puffed rice, tomatoes, potatoes, cilantro and onions, served with the two aforementioned sauces. Another dish was similar, but had sort of puffed chips, maybe of lentil or chickpea, served also with yogurt. We had some fried balls of chickpea with a potato stuffing, also good. I tried two types of flat bread, one with cabbage(yum) and one with potato(double yum). More deliciousness sauce. That tamarind sauce, dammmmnnnn, it rocks!!! How have I gone this long without ever trying it??? Of course I bought some desserts. A nut roll, sort of like a turkish delight. Almonds and pistachios. Also, some sort of orange squiggly looking sweet. I asked what it was and a man(also a customer) told me it was flour dipped in a sauce, fried, dipped in a sweet sauce. It tastes exactly like that. Sugary. Interesting. I totally love going in a place, pointing to things on the menu, deflecting the comments that the cute Indian girl said(«you won’t like that», I respond, «how do you know», she replies, «because I know what american people like») and eating multiple things you have no idea what they are. Don’t worry, this place is all vegetarian so you won’t wind up with too many funky things. I will go back here. The owner and workers are incredibly nice and at the price(I got like 8 things for $ 28), why the heck not. After we got finished eating, my husband and I both looked at each other and said, «That was fun!». Quick note about heat/spice– barely any! If you want it you gotta ask to jack it up!!!

I love this little fast food eatery way better than the full service restaurant next door. The food is better, cheaper, and more fun. The people who work there(as well as the other customers) are also very friendly and helpful. This is my favorite Indian restaurant in the area.

A DELIGHT! I had a hankering for a samosa and remembered passing this little Indian store a few weeks ago. Fast food, great prices and perfectly sized portions. Everything is made fresh to order. If you get a samosa, it will be have piping hot potatoes inside. If you order bhel poorie, it will be crisp and chilly. And on top of that, the place is run by a charming, earnest staff. I’ll definitely be back! For 2 samoosas and bhel poorie: $ 6.00.

this fantastic little find is tucked away on cass avenue, very near the other indian restaurant saffron. the concept is pretty much indian fast-food. you call in your order and in about 15 minutes your tastebuds will soon be entering heaven. they also have a few tables to sit and eat there if you can’t wait to devour the delicious samosas and idlis. staff is friendly and welcoming. portions are perfect — not too big, not too small. don’t pass this one up!
