When you’re in Westport on a stormy Sunday evening in March, Bennett’s is one of the few dining options available. That being said, it’s still a great place to grab a bite of seafood. It’s a quaint little place with great views of the marina from every table. You order at the counter then wait for your food to be brought to you. Right away I was impressed when I saw they serve Manny’s seeing as how we’re quite a ways from Georgetown. I ordered one of those and the cod & chips. The chips were good, nothing special. But the hand-battered cod was something else! Possibly the best I’ve ever had. It had the look and taste of cod that has truly been battered by hand and with care. It was hot, flaky, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious! The portion size was generous. The staff was very friendly and service was pretty quick. The prices are a bit tourist trap-y, but it was worth it for the experience.

I been to this place twice and first time had the cod and clam strips. The Cod was burnt and the clam strips were raw. Thought I would try it again and the Cod again and add 3 oysters and again the cod was burnt and the oysters cost 5.95 for 3 but the oysters were tiniest I have ever seen except for those smoked ones you get in a can they were about the size of a quarter what a joke. My son got crab cakes meal for 17 bucks and added a piece of fish $ 6 and not only was it burnt like mine but his crab cakes were burnt and very small only two the size of a silver dollar. I will say the servers were nice and décor of the place is happening but the food sucks and is expensive you would expect top notch heck even if it were cheaper I still wouldn’t go for burnt fish. The Clam chowder is good over priced for the sizes. Everything overpriced. Another thing paid by credit card upfront and on the slip it asks for a Tip that is not popper to ask for a Tip upfront before your services is concluded. I still Tipped $ 5 upfront.

We were in Westport and decided to try the Bennett’s Fish Shack. We love the Bennett’s resturant in Graysland. Had the Halibut and Chips(2 big pieces) and Applewood Bacon Burger. HUGE portions. See pictures. Also had clam chowder. Everything was excellent!!! We got there at 7:45pm, and they were in a hurry to clean up and leave for the night.

We did not know what to expect with such high ratings from so many reviews in Westport, but I can tell you if you miss this place while you are in Westport, you passed right by a jewel! Their Clam strips are Clams, not a frozen piece of what was a clam. Even the picky 12 year old wants to go back for more. The 12 year olds safe bet, the Bacon Cheese Burger, plain and dry. Great, if that is how you destroy your dinner and enjoy it. I had the Crab Cheddar Melt. You always wonder okay, am I going to see the crab or not, I paid for it. Promise you are looking for more cheese on this one you can spot the crab from the service window in the kitchen! Great job. Service was great in such a small town that is mostly shutdown, except a few places. Not a single feeling of hey I am one of two places open tonight. Truly felt valued as a customer. Enjoyed seeing locals as well as tourist enjoying a meal together. Even had a couple move tables so we could be at one table for four, not one table for three. Thank you.

We came here with a group and had the cod, clam chowder in a bread bowl and the hamburger. Overall, the food was pretty good quality. The fish was a good size portion and very fresh. Only complaint would be that the breading was a little too heavy for my taste. The flavor was good though. Their fries were really good though, crisp and fresh. The chowder wasn’t the best I’ve had, but it was still pretty good. We had it in a bread bowl which was kind of fun, the sourdough was good too. Really, this was a pretty good place, but its a little over priced, the breading and chowder could have been improved and it took quite a while for our food to come out. The staff was real friendly, even though they were busy.

One of the best parts about living in western Washington is the fact that you can always get insanely fresh seafood(within 36 – 48 hours after catch). The only thing better is when you’re on the Washington coast and you get seafood that is 12 hours or less after catch. That’s what Bennett’s provides. Perfectly tasty, *very* lightly breaded, and really not greasy, halibut fish and chips are just out of this world. You can add some lemon or dip in tartar, but you really don’t need to as the fish(not the grease or breading) overwhelms with a great taste and the knowledge that you’re eating seafood as fresh as possible. Easily worth the drive from Seattle just for this.

We meandered up the coast after fishing on the Columbia, and Westport was a little out of the way. But our visit to Bennett’s made that detour a memorable one — and was made necessary because they had closed the restaurant in Grayland(our first choice). The name is a misnomer — it’s a far cry from a «shack.» But it is a combination eat-in/eat-outside/take-out restaurant. The order taker is at the back of the bar, beside the restrooms, so check to make sure which line you’re standing in! Our group had crab cakes, battered cod, clam chowder(the sourdough bowl), and a Dungeness crab & cheddar melt. All were tasty, with generous proportions. Fries and onion rings were crisp, not greasy. No room for dessert! Highly recommended.
