They don’t know how to cut men’s hair. I came to Blades because I needed a stylist to help me look stylish and sharp again. I’m not really into hair or fashion, so I don’t have the experience or vocabulary to describe exactly what I need. I didn’t come for a haircut, I came for styling. I got neither. She didn’t know how to construct a sharp men’s hairstyle. I came home and my wife said that it looked like I hadn’t even had my hair cut. It’s just a mop. This is why corner barbers have signs that say«we fix expensive haircuts.» What a waste of time and money. Otherwise, the facility is nice and the people are friendly.

A consistently good experience here! My stylist is always on time, and I like the scalp massage that they do when your color is on. I have been going here for years and highly recommend to friends and family! :)

The absolute worst haircut of my life. I have long hair, not that difficult of a style. The«senior» sylist totally screwed up my cut. I will have to wait for months for this razored look to grow out. Wished I had never sat in his chair. Beware! Wished I could leave minus stars!!!

Need to start getting morning appointments with Jay, so when I leave I can get a full day of great hair… too often, when I leave the day is over and I am heading home, only able to share his amazing work with my husband. I have been a client of Blades for well over 15 years now and I will never go anywhere else! From the moment you are greeted, you are given every attention and courtesy by all of Blades staff. Jay never disappoints because he listens — takes the time to hear your«hair issues” — what you like, dislike and always takes your input into consideration when suggesting a new style, new approach or new color idea. And the bonus head massage is so wonderful! I am consistently complimented on my hair — I love the cut and color — and the time I steal away to escape at Blades is some of my favorite time!

After my hairdresser moved out of state over a year ago, I’ve been bouncing around to different places, trying to find someone I could stick with. I found it last night after Marcus took my rambling, almost schizophrenia description of what I wanted with my abundance of very fine and curly hair and created something 100% customized to my face, my hair, and my morning routine. It was dramatic but still«me» — an edgy textured inverted bob. I booked another appt for 5 weeks(I never do that!) and… the true test… I still loved it this morning.

Seriously one of the best salon experiences ever! It was my first time at blades and the staff was extremely attentive. They immediately greeted me and asked if I wanted any thing to drink while waiting. Even the manager came out and introduced himself! The atmosphere was very friendly. I had the pleasure of working with stylist Melanie. Her eye for styling is amazing. She helped me figure out which type of haircut works best for my fine hair. The end result was executed perfectly!!! I love my new haircut and the movement she added to it! She is definitely a brilliant stylist!!!

Have been here just a couple of times for manicures and have enjoyed the experiences. Both times I had pleasant manicurists who were friendly and personable. The front desk is also very friendly and easy to deal with. I also LOVE the location in Old Wethersfield, so easy to just pull right up and park without worrying about a packed lot or meters or anything. Just easy and beautiful.

Okay cut, but I prefer my regular people in Los Angeles or Atlanta. Overall the quality here makes me feel like a big city person living in a bit of a backwater locale. Maybe my standards are too high, but appearance is really important. This is not to say that I will not be coming back, but rather that it is not what I would consider worthy of 5 or 4 stars.

I went here upon the recommendation of a girlfriend and after a not-so spectacular four visits at an equally expensive salon just across the river over the Putnam Bridge in Glastonbury. I passed by it at first because it has an unassuming sign and there is parking in the rear. I walked into this old historical home and loved the foyer. Came into a large reception area and from minute 1 was a very friendly and positive experience. I got a haircut with Kaitlyn, whom I highly recommend. It was only $ 5 more than my last salon, and though a bit more than I’d like to pay normally, my hair looked great! Finally. She knew how to cut it on the first visit. The long luxurious shampoo with scalp massage was stellar. I looked so cute and feminine when I left I almost danced out of here. And I did something quite unusual for me, which was book Kaitlyn 5 – 6 weeks out for another haircut. I don’t go crazy for hair color in a salon but I will treat myself to a decent haircut. And it’s worth every red cent at this place. Def will be back. Def will recommend to my friends/family/colleagues. — — — - Just had my fourth haircut at this place. Still love my hairdresser Kaitlyn and met Luis who is the massage therapist/esthetician. Massages here are very reasonable — $ 60 for 60 minutes. Quite the steal. I might be moving from cut to color and massage. I feel good to give this business my patronage. I also met the manager who is really cool and fellow French Canadian. Super friendly staff here. — — — – Still going there after about 6 months. A hairdresser friend of mine kept raving about my cut. Kaitlyn is the bomb. Still scheduling my cuts 5 – 6 weeks in advance. I’m hooked. Ed Coutu, the manager and co-owner is so NICE! Seriously. I can’t get over not only how client-centric this place is but how nice everyone is. Why didn’t I know about this place 5 years ago?! — — — – Sadly, my K left but I went back to the salon and have tried several other hairdressers there and you know what… all give pretty good cuts. The latest was Laura. She was really good. I do have to say, Blades really makes you feel at home and one of the family. Thanks, Blades, for giving me hair I don’t have to fight with.

Though the location is beautiful — nothing else about Blades is worth the money. I went to get my haircut a few times and bought the shampoo they told me I should use. I started using it, but couldn’t figure out why my hair began falling out in clumps. I went back to my normal shampoo and the problem was solved. I got married in October and originally booked my bridal party to get their hair and makeup done at Blades; the first problem started when they wanted to charge me almost double what I had read on the website; then I went in for my(expensive) makeup and hair trial and it was a DISASTER. My makeup looked like I was going to the circus instead of going to get married, even after I told her I didn’t do a lot of makeup and wanted to look natural. Then the hair! I wanted a simple low bun. Nothing fancy, just simple and pretty. Well, their«master stylist» Marjorie told me that«my type of hair»(i.e. straight and medium-length) wouldn’t be able to do that — this is after one hour and 3 attempts — then she brought Jay over — the esteemed and overrated owner; he made my hair even worse after teasing it so it was a frizzy mess! Then he told me I’d have to come back and pay for another appointment if I wanted to give it another try. THANKSANYWAY! I immediately canceled and they lost out on a lot of money — he didn’t even offer to give me another trial free of charge. Guess the economy didn’t hit them too hard — can’t imagine how though. Worked out ok since I found Anthony Nicole Salon in West Hartford who did an AMAZINGJOB!

**just went here tonight for a cut and color and manicure in preparation for my wedding this weekend! I LOVED both the people who worked on me, Alecia did my nails(such a perfect job!) and the awesome Marcus did my hair! BOTH did an amazing job… I was so happy when i left! For those that dont know I am pretty ill and i dont get to get out much, nor have this kind of pampering… this was such a treat(and i was so lucky i had a gift certificate from last year so it was a real treat!)… the experience was very pleasant all around… The one tiny complaint i had was that the nail salon part is upstairs and there is no elevator… I use a walker or canes so its very hard for me to get upstairs… when i told Alecia the nail tech that i had a really hard time she IMMEDIATELYTOLDMETONEXTTIMELETTHEMKNOWWHEN I MAKETHEAPPT, and she WILLDOMYNAILDOWNSTAIRS!!! So, how awesome is that that they would completely accommodate me like that??? VERYCOOL! Most of the employees here have worked for him(Jay the owner) for years and years! Turnover is almost non existent which is sooooo unheard of in their industry! I WILLDEFINITELYBEGOINGBACK!

I go there for cut and color. Sharon is the best! Very friendly and relaxing. I used to go to Heidi’s in West Farms but find this FAR better. Located in a Victorian house in the heart of Old Wethersfield.

When I was going through rehearsals for a local community theater production of the classic musical Carnival, I told my fellow castmates that after the show ended I was going to get a message. I got a gift certificate from Blades a few years ago and I got a wonderful message. I did not know of any message therapists besides the one that I saw a few years ago, so I asked for him. He was not available so I booked a much needed 50 minute massage with Kerri and I was not disappointed. The entire experience was not only good for my body but for my spirit as well. It was very good for the soul. I don’t want to give away too much, but if you want a massage, go to Blades and book an appointment with Kerri. Your body and soul with thank you.
