Fresh Pickings II

It’s easy to miss this gem of a lunch spot because of its grocery storefront and the fact that it’s a little wedged away from the highway BUT the people here devised a spicy sauce specifically for my friend and his co-​workers because they come here often for an inexpensive yet hearty meal but they like their food on the spicier side (yes, yes, Indians I know!) This place seems family-​run and has a lovely feel to it. I got the chicken gyro, my friend got the beef gyro and we were so happily fed that we had to skip dinner! Come here for inexpensive yet filling and tasty fare! They also have a wide selection of produce, rice and grains and other mediterranean, Lebanese and other intersecting cultural food, so if you’re experimenting with dinner this place is a good starting point!

Very wee store, but they have breakfast sandwich’s, deli sandwich’s, produce, olive bar, middle eastern grocery products and delights.

This place has produce and a meager amount of random grocery items in an otherwise bare bones corner store in a strip mall. If you need an onion or a banana, or perhaps a potato, and you don’t feel like running through a grocery store, this place is right for you.

We out-​of-​towners were driving through, on our way to west CT. We pulled in the parking lot on a whim, looking for some quick lunch and decided to order a giant grinder. For less than $ 20, we left with 2 huge grinders, a bag of State Line potato chips, and some tea. Good flavor, great value, huge portions, and friendly people. We took our lunch on the road and hardly lost any time at all. This was just what we needed!

Really well-​priced produce at this no frills market. The staff is generally friendly and helpful.
The star is their deli/​prepared food. Amazing sandwiches, both hot and cold, hot meals, and salads. Their hot meals are only $ 5 and you can get pasta w/​meatballs or roasted chicken, roasted chicken w/​potatoes or veggies, Spicy chicken with potatoes or veggies, Grilled chicken wings with soup or salad, or meatloaf and mashed potatoes. WHAT?! Portions are generous and the food is delicious. For a graduation party a few years back, my family ordered a tray of marinated chicken breasts and they were to die for. Seriously great cooks there!
Also, their tuna salad is so damn tasty and inexpensive. All around win.

this place is a decent little grocery store. I was a bit hesitant at first, judging the book from the cover i guess. well, they have a decent but small selection of produce and a bunch of mediterranean specialty groceries that you don’t find at too many other places. worth checking out, and the prices are very reasonable. sandwiches looked like they might be good, so i gotta get back for that.

This is a fantastic place to buy fresh fruits and veg tables at a very reasonable cost. They even have a olive bar. One of my favorites is the mixed salad greens they prepared every day for that super salad. We that live in Wethersfield and Rocky Hill are very lucky to have this store, so get down there and start buying and keep this little gem in business.

Super friendly and helpful staff. Family-​owned. Great prices. Got two bags full of produce for about $ 20. Definitely will make it a stop once a week. The selection is decent and they carry some interesting Italian, Greek, and Lebanese olive oils, cookies, crackers, etc. I think this is definitely a hidden gem that I hope more people find out about.

Small place, but friendly staff and good prices. One couldn’t do all of their shopping there, but you can get supplemental shopping done. A decent selection of vegetables, some imported canned and jar goods, a small olive bar, bread which isn’t that impressive, and the deli makes huge grinders. Although they are made on not so great bread, they are huge and they take time constructing a good sandwich. $ 13 for a single meat and $ 15 for two meat grinders are enough for 2 – 4 people to eat depending on ones level of gluttony. Apparently in the summer time the produce is all local. In the same plaza as a decent wine place and an above average sushi place. Go check this place out and support them. As I said, won’t replace your grocery store, but they will be your go to place on select items.

Love this place. It’s small but has amazing prices. The produce looks like it came from your garden, not your steroid swollen, waxed or overly chemically treated veggies from Stop & Shop or similar. They also have great salads for a last minute lunch. One of the staff remembered me after only 1 visit, asks about my job & boss every time I go in now, etc. SO friendly! They even have local honey for my allergies! Love this place!!!

This place is awesome! I go here a few times a week for produce. The prices are WAY under market and the selection is good. But don’t expect waxy perfect looking stuff here. Once in a while, the stuff looks sort of sad, but if you look and dig around a little, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for. In addition, they have a great olive bar (cheap, too), canned and bottled goods, grind your own coffees, hot prepared food, goat cheese, meats, breads, etc, etc. There have been times that I’ve literally gotten a bag full o’ stuff for under five bucks. WAY cheaper than anywhere else (i.e., grocery stores in the area) and just as good. This is my go-​to place for fresh vegetables without having to battle S&S lines and parking.
Tonight I got:
2 lbs. squash (locally grown)
1 Vadalia onion
1 container of peeled garlic (at least 25 cloves)
1 clamshell of field greens
1 huge bunch of flat leaf parsley
Grand total: $ 7.47.
Great deal. (It’s next door to Ginza and the package store.)
