Okay, so I’m going to write a review for the facility– not the actual«sleep study.» I still don’t quite understand how doctors get an accurate view of how you sleep when you’re covered in uncomfortable wires, but that’s not on the facility. The Niagara Sleep Center is tucked away in an office park off Williams Road. I arrived around 8:30 so it was dark and kind of hard to find(as is the experience in most office parks). Once I found it, the parking lot was well lit and I was able to park right near the front door. I rang the bell and was let in(there’s good signage for the button Sleep Center patients should press). Once inside I was led to a room that felt pretty much like a small hotel room. There was carpet, a private bath with shower, a full size bed and frame and a dresser. It definitely felt like it could be a comfortable environment.(I’ve been to a sleep study before where I felt like I was in a college dorm room). The bed had two pillows, but they let you bring your own pillow, which I did. The tech was very nice, greeted me and went over everything with me. When I explained that I’d tried a sleep study before and left midway through when I couldn’t sleep, he told me he’s use the least amount of wires possible. He also said to try sleeping on my back for the first 20 minutes and if I couldn’t get comfortable to just do whatever was comfortable and they’d figure it out. Overall, sound was okay — I could hear the TV of the person in the room next to me(not just muffled, I could make out the TV show he was watching by the theme song). I could also hear talking in the other rooms. That said, by the time it was lights out, everything was quiet. It was a rough night sleep-wise, but that was more toward trying to sleep while all wired up. At some point I managed to fall asleep enough for them to get a decent reading, which the tech filled me in on when I got woken up at 5am(yup — 5am wake up call!). He gave me some basics of what happened while I was asleep and then said the doctor would be in touch within 7 – 10 days. Overall, the facility is nice — I just wish there was an easier way to do sleep studies.
