I buy organic vegetables from Jim’s Produce in two venues(1) local farmers’ markets[see website for locations where they sell] and(2) participation in the Community Supported Agriculture(CSA). These are the only two venues in which they sell that I’m aware of. This review focuses on the CSA. I’ve been subscribing to the CSA for a number of years. The website offers a great amount of detail on what to expect, cost, etc. so I’ll avoid some of that here. However, I can say that I think it’s well worth the money for the quality and quantity of the vegetables and the overall experience. Deliveries occur in 3 seasons of the year(spring, summer, fall). Each is currently 10 weeks in term. Each week, a box of vegetables are delivered to a designated drop location(the farm, auburn, lincoln, yuba city). In that box is a week’s worth of deliciousness that can’t be beat. The basic metrics. The price for a subscription looks like a big number. Once you average it out over the term of the season, it’s a little more presentable. However, I took stock of what I was receiving in my share last year and found that the weekly content justified the cost very well. I could easily spend more at a farmers’ market or at the local grocery store, especially in the summer when all the heavy stuff starts coming in. The quality of everything in the CSA box is top quality and ready-to-eat. I’ve never received anything that wasn’t quite ripe, nor have I ever felt like I was getting the«leftovers» in my CSA subscription to preserve the best stuff for the farmers’ market stand, like I’ve heard of other CSAs. See the website for more details on the types of veggies that they grow and pick up locations. I’d also like to refer to the website to highlight the various«parties» that they do like the onion planting party. This gives the CSA participants an opportunity to visit the farm, to see how things are done, and to get your hands dirty. My biggest hesitations to subscribing was having to pick up a box each week and being able to pick what’s in the box. I’ve found these aren’t a big deal to me after all. The drop site was on my way home from work(had to take a different way, but it was still on my way home) and the variety of what I receive is something that I’ve come to like.
