The Exchange At Wheaton Station

We were so excited to move here. It looked great and it had just recently opened when we looked at it. However as many Unilocalers have said, it went downhill fast.
If I could give the staff a different rating, I would give them a 5! Lisa, one of the ladies that work the front desk is so pleasant and just an over sweet lady. I love working with Valeria and Tess. They are always so helpful and bless their hearts they do try to fix any issues I may have. Those two are a keeper.
The building itself is okay but not for what we pay. Some of the tenants don’t help take care of things so things are always broken. The printer in the computer lounge hardly ever works and the trash rooms are always in disarray. Some of the neighbors are just plain mean and nasty here. They take no consideration of others. They allow their dogs to bark at all hours of the night, have gathering down at the grill way after 10pm and are extremely loud. No consideration of neighbors who have to work early the next day.

Valeria is the best in the leasing office. She is well informed, very professional and has a great sense of follow up. She made our transition from our house to the Exchange extremely pleasant.
Asia is the best concierge. Polite, professional, and monitors the door for security. I seldom see her away from her desk. I often get parking passes for visitors. She is polite courteous and professional. She doesn’t come off as intrusive about your guests or nosey. She is a jewel on the staff.
The building is beautiful. The view is spectacular. The building staff work hard to keep it clean.
Cons:
A) paper shortage in the business office printer,
B) when waiting for parking passes you are forced to listen to a concierge with red hair complain about how demanding her job is… Pass the pass without the drama. Just because I’m waiting does not mean I want to be forced to hear your complaints.
C) Gum in the carpet in front of the elevator 13^th floor
D) trash room etiquette can’t be taught it has to be intrinsic
E) barking dogs occasionally about 30 min to an hour
F) parking spaces are small specially in visitors parking
G) Some residents drive without caution and too fast in the garage.

My husband and I have been living here for over 1 year and unfortunately we’ve become very disappointed in the changes that have been made and the issues we’ve noticed that you would only notice once you’ve moved in.
Pros
1) Great view! We live on the 12 floor and it’s absolutely breath taken to see the scenery after a long days work
2) Accessibility — you are literally close to everything… Grocery store and Starbucks are downstairs… Mall across the street… Metro across the street
3) Staff and Maintenance — property staff (not sure about the new manager haven’t met her) are awesome people. They provided quality customer service and always has a smile
Con’s
1) Parking — the new manager has gone beyond unreasonable with this whole parking situation. For a building of 500+ there are only 7 overnight passes… It makes 0 since.
2) More Parking — despite the fact of the residents paying for they’re spaces on a monthly basis if your car isn’t properly registered, hasn’t move or has an issue it will be towed… Lord forbid you try to get your car fixed
3) Walls — the walls are ridiculously thin. You can hear your neighbor, their conversation, television and personal encounters. You can also here the water rushing down the pipes from your neighbor upstairs. You can hear your upstairs neighbor using the bathroom etc.
4) Appliances — dishwasher leaves your dishes with a foul order… You have to re-​wash your dishes
5) Unit — the air unit is extremely loud… the one in our apartment is in our bedroom. We have to turn it off at night in order to sleep. Now imagine how awful it is during the summer.
These are only a few things… Oh the cost for rent and parking is crazy…
Beautiful outward appearance… Horrible bones.

Been here for a little over a month. 3 fire alarms, loud music, barking dog, someone parked in my reserved parking space, can never get a cart to move anything, concierge lacks sense of security, and the gym is small. Multi cultural residents that display poor sense of cleanliness. Parking is horrible, only 7 overnight passes for this Hughes bldg. Please step your game up.

I’m only reviewing the leasing process since I just moved in today. I met with Valeria extremely professional yet down to earth. She is awesome at what she does! She helped me from the beginning to the end and even when she wasn’t here she made sure every was well handled. When I picked up the key Valeria was off that day so Bakhtyar assisted me and he too was very helpful and professional. Even making sure I understood everything before leaving me alone. He was very patient as well! I lived in many apartments and by far this is the best customer service I have ever received awesome awesome awesome service! WAY TO GO VALERIA and Bakhtyar!!!

Do not rent from here if you plan to have friends or, heaven forbid, family over. They’ve decided to only give out 7 guest parking passes a day. SEVEN A DAY for a building with 500 units.
Unless you are a miser, a loner, or an island, rent somewhere else.

STAY AWAY from this place at ALL cost. The customer service and treatment of residents/​future residents is beyond horrible. It’s impossible to get ahold of anyone in the office (that is of course if you don’t owe them money). DO NOT RENT HERE

On the first visit of the apartment, my wife and i are amazed by the designs and features of the place. Ours agent was Valeria Canales, she took her time and wasn’t rush at all. Valeria was professional and helpful showing us the units and gave her own opinion comparision. Valeria walkthrough of the apartment was very thougbtful, like she is looking for herself to live. Im very happy with my agent Valeria and the unit is a great place to live. Many thanks to the well thought designs of the building and a great agent Valeria Canales.

My lease at «The George» (one star) is up in July, and I have already made plans to move here. I have friends who already have a place in this building, and I’ve visited often.
The building is nice, with good quality amenities. Staff I’ve talked to are pleasant and professional. The location is outstanding, with Safeway downstairs and Metro across the street. The only drawback is the rent – it’s a little steep in my opinion.

Been here for 10 months: I agree with the 2 other posts… for the money, the apartment (akwardly small) and building (not as clean as could be, tenants not that professional, access issues, high utlity) are just not worth it. Unlike others I am not impressed with the location.
Safeway is convientant but very over priced. Neighborhood stores a little rundown.
Only pros: great leasing and maintenance staff. Really are nice and responsive!
On top of Metro!
For the price you can do better though, sorry… If they dropped prices I think you could deal …

Came here to tour the facility. I recommend Tess Pringle as the leasing expert. She was very helpful with questions and concerns. The building is pretty new, so hopefully residents will value the quality of the building.

I hate to give The Exchange a mediocre review, but I’ve been living here for a year, and dramatic improvements need to take place — specifically in terms of how a few tenants behave.
The employees of the leasing office, building maintenance, and concierge services are very helpful. These folks work hard to make sure everything runs smoothly. Tess Pringle was my leasing agent, and she was great in making the move here as easy as possible.
I’m very surprised to see accounts of rudeness from staff. On the contrary, I’ve experienced staff members to be very professional and cordial. Whenever, I’ve made a service request, it is typically resolved within 24 hours or less. I am regularly informed of package deliveries. No complaints here.
The building is just one year old, and the amenities are quite nice. The 17^th floor lounge has great views. The pool is awesome. The kitchen floor space is great no matter what lay-​out you select. I appreciate the appliances and stylish granite counter tops. Further, you can’t get any more convenient in terms of central location. There is a great Safeway right downstairs. The Wheaton Metro stop is right next door.
The only problem here is that some folks simply DON’T WANT TO HAVE NICE THINGS! I’ve slipped in dog urine on an elevator on one occasion. People toss food in the hallways like the world is their personal slop trough. If you walk through the halls, you will notice scoff marks, stained carpets, and overflowing trash rooms. You’ll also notice that the building staff makes frequent corrections to seemingly no avail. It’s horrible when you see staff working hard to clean up the messes of a selfish few. Seriously, some renters in the building have no home-​training. Domestic quarrels and feral children tromping through the hallways can be easily heard.
If you live here, you’ll begin to think that your neighbors either have low self-​esteem to the point where they enjoy living in filth, or are barnyard animals. No one likes seeing how Oscar the Grouch gets down! See my picture of the «trashed» communal trash room.
Oh yeah… despite being a non-​smoking building, you’ll definitely smell cigarettes quite frequently.
Also, there’s this one dickwad who uses the gym that demands that all fans be turned off — which forces the air to become stagnant with a hearty, foul musk. He gets really bitchy if you challenge him on it, too. I hope he gets evicted.

I love living here. It’s beautiful and so close to everything. The only downside is the parking situatiom. But I feel safe and I am comfortable. I like being able to metro to work whenever I want. Some days I can walk to a Farmers market. I love it!

I have not moved in yet, but my wife and I completed our application and are set for the move. The leasing office was super helpful, informative, and patient. Answered all our questions and made the process simple. Everything was just a breeze. (We worked with Tess.)

As a prior resident to the exchange it was a horrible experience the management was racist as well as incompetent they have hired all young college kids as their leasing Agents who barely have experience!!! It was a battle back-​and-​forth for six months finally having to hire an attorney to get out of the lease first so many false accusations and racist comments would not recommend living here but great building great features once again great building but management very poor!

There is so much good about this place that I’m just going to have to list the pros and cons:
Pros:
— Brand New
— Large kitchens and bathrooms with granite countertops
— Walk-​In Closets
— Washer and Dryer in the Unit
— Trash and Recycling on Every Floor
— Green Roof Dog Park
— Community Kitchen area with tvs/​seating
— Game lounge with two tvs and seating
— Pool area with grill and great outdoor seating (with covered tops!)
— Sky Lounge on the 17^th floor with amazing view and large balcony with seating, pool table, fireplace, kitchen, tvs, seating, bathroom
— Packages — they send emails and you can pick it up easily at the front desk at any time of the day
— Reasonably priced (although I did get a deal they were running since they are new)
— The metro is literally at the bottom of the building! (not the main entrance, but the side entrance)
— On top of a brand new Safeway that is 24 hours (also has a redbox) — you can’t beat that convenience — there is no elevator directly into the store but its just a short walk around
— There is a new wine and liquor store at the bottom too, as well as a Dunkin Donuts across the street and the Wheaton Mall
— The view is not half bad
— The leasing people are so nice — Tess Pringle helped us and I seriously think she is the best leasing person I have ever come across — also just a cool person
— There are two electric charging stations in the parking garage that are free (i seriously want an electric hybrid)
— Visitors parking is free (yes they do charge at other places I saw) and abundant
— Computer Lounge with Free Printing
— You can pay your rent online easily and for free
Cons:
— The price could be significantly more if there is no special and utilities are not included
— Parking in the garage is $ 85 a month ($ 100 for reserved which you definitely don’t need)
Overall:
This is the best apartment complex I have ever lived in — the amenities are just amazing — I really could not ask for anything else and that is saying a lot.

Decided to check this place out after a recommendation from a friend. Pulled into garage and parked in the future resident space. Wondered the parking lot until I saw the sign for the leasing office. Push the button person says they are closed. Another person walks up and we go to the leasing office. I sit and other person sits then they get up to speak to woman in office. She states they are closed. Ok in my mind as I’m sitting on vinyl chairs most people lock the door when they are closed. Ok so you close at 5. I am there at 445. What would have been better, what can I help you with? Would you like some information and to schedule for another day? At no point did the women get up to speak, but sat in her chair. Initial impressions not interested. Eager to her about the experience of person that sent me. Did I mention the first comment from the woman as I don’t know her name nor did she introduce herself was «you need to go down to the concierge to sign in». I’m looking around to see who she is talking to because that was rude. No hello, nothing maybe because she was disrupted by our presence. Anyhow did not get anymore info than what I came in with other than they stop tours 45 mins before closing or is it 15. Doesn’t matter. All signs say no go. Guess other review about hesitation to give $$$$ over the phone might point back to this woman. I expect better customer service when you are dealing with a 2k+ per month price point.
