We were looking for a warm clam chowder on a cold early night and every restaurant seemed to be closed and we found this place one interesting before closing. Closed restaurant section all by ourselves with me and my son rushing in out of world~~~amazing chowder with hot tea with warm welcoming smile from the owner Justin Like my son says 6 star rating~Highly recommended.

Stopped in for lunch while working in the area because it was pretty much the only place open on a Monday at noon. We were the only table in the dining room and there were maybe 4 people in the bar. The bartender was on her cell phone most of the time, and I think we saw our server 3 times — to order, drop off the food 30 minutes later, and finally to get the bill. Horrible service, not awesome food, and pricy. Will not be stopping again.

Wonderful cod and chips, Tsunami chowder is a must. Sitting outside makes everything come together. You know it is a great place when the locals come here and rave about the calamari.

If you’re in the Manzanita/Nehalem area, and you’re looking for the best place to eat outside with a good view, then you should come to Tsunami. It’s right on the bay, and you can watch fisherman and boaters around the Wheeler marina as you eat. We had very good service here. We asked our waiter what he recommended: he gave us honest advice, which we of course appreciated. He recommended the fried cod(not halibut), chowder, and steamed clams(not fried). We got beer on draft to go with the spread. Everything was delicious. We couldn’t have picked a nicer day to sit outside and enjoy the sun, water, some fresh seafood and a nice cold one.

Aside from a gorgeous view from the deck, the French Dip and the calamari are top notch. For all you Unilocal haters-the Oregon Coast tourist industry is very short, and staffing for a short season is ALWAYS a problem. One day there are 3 customers, the next there will be 100 in a hour. Plan accordingly. Lighten up folks, you are(presumably) on vacation. Give your server/bartender/cooks some love and take a deep breath. And have a Bloody Mary, just add an extra shot if you’re feeling snarky…

Good food, cold beer. Low key atmosphere! Nice view of the lake! Hog wings were great!

This place is filthy. If the areas you can see are this dirty, what do the unseen areas look like? Not to mention that only the women’s restroom was working. Too bad because the food had potential.

Excellent spot for generous cocktails AND the food is surprisingly good. Not great atmosphere but after your first drink it gets better! If they jazzed the inside a bit… would be a home run!

I will admit I was a little hesitant to stop here. Let’s face it, you are rolling the dice on what you might get on the coast. It’s part of the charm if you ask me. But I needed a Bloody Mary and an appetizer asap. It was my bday and I was pretty sure this was not going to fulfill my ‘champagne wishes and caviar dreams’. Wrong. Turned my frown upside down: –The people working there were EXCEPTIONAL — as Ronnie mentioned. –The wings were surprisingly good. We asked for sauce/wing type pairing recommendations. Boom! Both chic and hog wings were delish. –Bloody Mary above average. Respect. I could go into detail regarding furniture, aesthetics, etc but why?(–1) You are at the coast after all… You lucky dog!

We were excited that this place opened again. The atmosphere is «very» costal. That’s both good and bad. Smells really bad inside and the furniture is from the 80’s. There were literally cob webs in the light fixtures and rips in just about every table cloth. It was also freezing inside and the heater in the back didn’t work at all. The bathrooms are just nasty. You’re better off holding it. That’s the bad! The good is the food is actually really tasty! Had some really good halibut fish and chips and ceased salad with bay shrimp. Kids loved the chicken strips and the Phở was apparently outstanding. To the owners… your food is great, but the atmosphere needs a serious upgrade. First, get rid of that terrible rotten fish smell. Then hire somebody to remodel your restrooms. Let us know when that’s done and we will be back. For now we might order some takeout, but there is no way we will dine in again. Had to wash the kids clothes to get that smell out.

We literally live right across the street. And we don’t eat here. About once or twice a year we give them a chance, and each time we are let down. Tonight was one of those times. I called to place an order, was interrupted halfway through my order, put on hold for 8 minutes, and then hung up on. I called back and spoke to the owner, who cussed me out and hung up on me. At least they didn’t get any of our money. We will continue to take our patronage to Sand Dune in Manzanita.

Needed an Asian food fix and no Asian food in Cannon Beach or Manzanita! Unilocal to the rescue. This weird restaurant in antique shop filled Wheeler is adorably set along the bay and got an outdoor seat! Ordered the fried shrimp as an appetizer(yum) and shared the huge portion of the yakisoba noodles. They were a little dry but at least got our Asian food. Ordered kids portion of the fried clam strips. Would come again for the ambiance but the food could be upgraded.

An impromptu visit to this place to watch grab a couple of beers and watch a football game became a realization that I should visit parts south of Manzanita more often! I did not partake in cuisine, but the beer and atmosphere was AWESOME! What an amazing view! Our bartender was EXCEPTIONAL!!! I am looking forward to visiting this place in the future :)

Took 30 min. To see any food, waitress was so sad about the time she gave us 2 bowls of free chowder, Yes chowder(no clamp to be found) Sadly the restaurant was 2⁄3 empty so the kitchen had no excuse. The orange chicken was great as was the Asian chicken salad even though it took forever to get food. We tipped 20% as it wasn’t her fault. Great view of water.

Waiting over an hour to be served burnt burger with blackened bacon and soup was inexcusable, especially when we had to go find a server to order more beverages while we waited. They said kitchen backed up as it was busy, but going inside, I’d hardly say more than 25% of seats taken. Specifically asking for gluten free options, we were given a special menu which looked nice enough, however when served and tasted(delicious), it turned out that the gluten free order was beer battered. Insanely tasty fries, but not worth the physical pain later. The phở was surprisingly good, however combined with the worst service imaginable and gluten poisoning, this restaurant is irresponsible. I give it one star for the comfort of a relaxing patio, but apologizing to every patron outside for the horrible kitchen delays, even that was a buzz kill on the beautiful day.

We stop by here for my birthday June 22,2015 and it was busy. Took awhile to take our order. The waitress was running her butt off. They did ran out of the dish I wanted but I was able to find something else. We were able to sit outside for the sunset. It was a beautiful view. We were patient, was not in a hurry. If you are trying to get a Quick bite don’t stop here:(but the food was delicious. It seem like they only have 1 server for the dining room and 1 at the bar. My husband and I enjoyed the food and view. He had a killer French dip and I had a steak teriyaki, that I pretty much made four meals out of it, huge portion! I’d come back again if I were to visit that side of the beach again:)

Honestly, for the coast, I’d give the Tsunami 4 stars if they could be consistent. When you walk you’re in front of a desk that looks a lot like a hostess desk. There’s no hostess, so keep it movin’. Head left for the bar, right for the restaurant. There are some great dishes on the menu, the shrimp is über popular! The pies. OMG the pies. Fresh homemade deserts! I read something about there not being a lot of healthy choices, my favorite dish here is actually steamed rice and sauteed veggies. Delish! They make a heckuva tasty burger too. Now I mentioned above they’re not consistent. They’re a coastal restaurant so ‘rush hour’ is pretty much spring break through labor day. There’s some transition from those slow winter nights to hoppin’ sundays. I’ve been served still frozen veggies while they were transitioning cooks. I’ve waited literally 2 hours for a waitress to fix the video poker machine, so I could feed it alla my dough! So, there’s some inconsistency in service, but never in friendliness! I eat here nearly every Wednesday, and I see some staff come n go… I watch how they interact during the stressful busy season, and though they’re not Portland Professional, and they tend to whine to customers about their busy days, they really relate well to people. They’re genuine, and friendly. As was mentioned before, the view is just damned amazing. if they added some candles, and soft music, dressed up the place a bit, it could easily become a fine dining establishment.

Every time I’ve been here there’s been this wonderful connection with the servers. That’s the first thing I notice. The 2nd is the views and the 3rd(not in importance as it’s ALL important) is the food!!! I had the pan fried oysters with a side caesar salad and I had to have the onion rings. The salad was big and had a lot of veggies and leafy greens with some cute little croutons thrown on top. The oysters — fresh, not oily or soggy but crispy and delish. Onion rings? Oh yeah. lots of those too with just enough crunchiness. homemade for sure. We sat in the bar and had the pleasure of being served by Kathleen. what a breath of fresh air and she’s very comfortable in her job. Find out if Kathleen made the pies because if she did you had better get a piece — even if it is to go. Divine. perhaps a bakery in her future? We had the coconut pie and it’s thick with coconut and pudding that is the real kind. you won’t find fake flavoring. Her crust is just beyond yummy as well and not soggy. On top you will find real whipped cream. We were staying in Manzanita but this is about 3 miles up the road. It’s almost like a getaway. They’ve got a great outside as well but they don’t allow dogs on their deck which is the only negative. I’ll be back to retreat from my Manzanita retreat another time.

Let me start with the ambience: It is on the dock of the Nehalem Estuary, with outside seating. Or you can sit inside at the bar area, which also has tables with a view of the water and hills. Or just sit at the bar and chat with other customers. There is also a separate dining area. The tables are widely spaced and large enough for four. The bar has a selection of beers on tap, including Lagunitas IPA. Happy hour is from 15:00 to 18:00 beers are $ 3.50 a pint during happy hour. Now the food. There are the beach side regulars, burgers, fries and of course clam chowder, I think you can get clam chowder everywhere on the Oregon post, except the Post Office. During happy hour, they have a few $ 5.00 dishes, including a burger, ask the wait human what they have as they are not menu items. But of note, are the Asian dishes. They are known for their Phao, and it is a good deal and the broth is nice. The beef phao has a ton of meat. The service is good and friendly. Food arrives pretty soon and there is lots of parking.

Update on my last review. When the owner isn’t cooking, the food’s not as good. Sorry to say. I know he needs time off, but it just isn’t as good. :(
