The soup special at lunch on Friday was crab bisque and, had I not been with others, I might have looked for a way to actually lick the bowl! It was so good that I returned that evening just in hopes that they still had it on the menu. I sat at the bar and, while sipping a glass of Frog’s Leap Zinfandel, asked the bartender if the crab bisque from the lunch special was available. My heart sank when she said they were all out, but… she offered to check and see if they had made another batch. It was my lucky day! Apparently, this is a soup that everyone clamors after so, if you see it as a special, don’t wait to order. And get a bowl not a cup… it’s just that good.

Burgers were really good! Skip the pierogi nacho appetizer — it sounds better than it really is. Servers seemed overwhelmed(we witnessed at least 3 unhappy parties) and ours was in over her head with the iPad she was trying to use to put in orders and ring us out. Our only issue was my husband’s burger rang up $ 3 more than the listed menu price. The manager corrected it upon request.

A long wait but ok dinner. Very sweet and attentive waitress. Good potato soup. Saw many empty tables which seemed odd with the long wait and all the people out in the corridor waiting for dinner.

This biggest disappointment in this place is the lack of any response or ability to improve. The service is beyond terrible but I can’t even begin to blame the waitress when you observe how terrible the management is. A few things to note: — No knowledge of the menu. When asked if she had a draft list for beer, the waitress simply answered no and recommended we get up and go look. When asked about the salad dressing options, she could name two and suggested the guest choose from those two. — Rude. While ordering, she moved on between guests by issuing the command, «Next.» — Management came over and acknowledged we didn’t have drinks and said, «I’ll tell her.» That’s really poor management, if you see a waitress in the weeds, you help! — The tables around us remained unbussed for the entire time we sat(while we watched the manager stand at the top of the steps with her hands behind her back surveying the place multiple times and at length. — dirty silverware, which I got up to meet anyone at the waitress stand and noticed it was grosser than the rest of the place! Broken glasses, food on the floor, no wonder everything is such a struggle. — wrong orders, actually asked us to scrape potato chips off one plate into another(we weren’t all relatives) because it would be the quickest way to get them right because the kitchen would get mad. The best part about this, is during my spa appointment, I was told the CEO is looking to raise rates for next year. I would HIGHLY suggest he visit his own restaurants before he has the gall to raise any rates. He’s lucky people arent getting sick, far worry away from revenue.

Waited 30 minutes after being sat to place drink order. Took another 20 minutes to get the drinks and another 20 to get the food. My husband’s burger came out on sandwich bread… even though the menu clearly states it is served on a kaiser bun. 3 different kinds of fries all thrown together and they were cold. Pickles had brown rotting streaks. Another order came out completely wrong. Food was Denny’s quality at best. Waitress was completely overwhelmed and simply asking for a refill seemed to annoy her. Manager gave us 20% off our $ 100 bill. Will NOT return. Oglesby is a beautiful resort… but they seriously LACK on their dining and customer service.

Overpriced, mediocre food, mediocre service. For entrees that hover around $ 14, I would expect much more substance, flavor, and service. Salads are mostly lettuce, lemon chicken entrée is more potatoes than chicken, chili is so bland, service is so lacking. The experience was like stopping at a turnpike restaurant. Very disappointing and the prices are insulting.

Part of Oglebay resort. This little bar & grill has a nice atmosphere and a few decent items on the menu. Beer and wine choices were good also. I had a burger that had good flavor and plate speak, but seem to be short on substance(too much filler). Price was reasonable also. If I ever visit again I could see myself dining there again.

I’ve been here four times now, and unfortunately, the food has never been impressive. Fried foods are not crisp, should-be flavorful entrees are bland. The setting is beautiful, and that is where my rating comes from, but they should really work to improve the food.

Food was good. Visited on a Wednesday. Arrived about 1:30 for lunch. Not crowded at all. People at table beside us had been waiting«a long time». Server came to our table first and we told her that the people beside us were here before us, so she took their order first. But then we got our food first. She did check back to see if everything was okay, but made 2 mistakes on our check before finally getting it correct. Then left the bill and never came back to take the payment. Went back at 7:10 p.m. for dinner. Was told there was at least a half hour wait, but there were 11 tables empty. Host said he was«in the process of seating those tables» but that they«time the seating so that they don’t overwhelm the servers». So we placed an order to go and when I came back to pick it up at 7:30 p.m. there were still 11 tables empty.

So so food, not worth the money. Dirty menus, slow service. Kids drinks same cost as adult, ridiculous!

Went for dinner and had terrible service. Slow, unorganized, and unattentive. Manager was apologizing all over the place but not helping make things better. Staying in the lodge, we tried again the next night– same bad experience. WENTBACK A YEARLATER, and expected to laugh at the same terrible experience… They somehow managed to make it worse. When our meal arrived before our appetizer I asked our waitress to cancel the appetizer… she said«what did you order?» as if it had never happened.(Standard customer service would be to comp it and still deliver it as an apology, or at least comp sodas or something.) We found it easier to wait in line at the bar for drink refills because no one in the joint was getting them otherwise. None of the staff were working together. The food was always good– it’s a shame no one knows how to run the dining room!!!

Sometimes it is difficult to articulate the precise angle in which bad service cuts through the heart and soul. Please save your money, time, and energy and save the aforementioned hard-earned commodities for another institution. I prefer to express myself in poetry in the most dire of times… The staff was rude, in the most humorless of mood(s), serving bad judgement and disappointing food. Alas, Oglebay, teach your wait staff the value of good judgement and compassion. Love conquers all. In the words of Ghandi, «compassion is a muscle that strengthens with use.» In the words of Plato, «Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle.» In the words of Anne Frank, «No one has ever been poor by giving.» In the words of the Dalai Lama XIV, «Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.» I hope these precious words can aid a restaurant-wide reformation in judgement, discernment, and service.

Meh. The only reason to go here is because you don’t feel like leaving the hotel. Food is so-so. It won’t kill you, but nothing is awesome. Enjoy the experience of staying at the lodge and mentally escaping, because the dining experience is not why you’re here. Normal service expectations don’t apply… you’d do well to tip up front and pretend like you’re best friends with your server. I hate to say it, but Wheeling just doesn’t know what a real restaurant experience should be… I don’t blame the waitstaff, I blame the leadership who is hiring incompetent management. They clearly aren’t traveling to a real city and bringing some ‘best practice’ back to the hill country. The workers are doing their best, but it’s sub-par by any measure.

Went for the Holiday Lights buffet, was simply horrible. I would rather eat at Golden Coral or chop my feet off than eat here again. You would expect a decent dinner buffet(although I loath buffets) for $ 35 at a nice resort… guess again…

The food was mediocre at best. My husband and I ordered a blue moon draft and a glass of white zin, it took at least 15 minutes to get our drink when we could see there was hardly anyone at the bar. I got taxis and they were pretty bland, I ended up eating only 1 of the 3. My husband got the ultimate grill burger and said it was pretty good. It’s not the greatest place and the staff is pretty slow. We also ordered pizza as room service one of the nights and it was just ok, we did not go here again after the first night and we stayed for 4 days.

After waitressing here back in college(7 years ago), I was disappointed at the recent bad reviews. Decided to try it myself. My family and I recently ate here and boy was it disappointing. The service was horrible and slow yet we were one of only two tables there. The servers just stood in a blob and talked to each other. The food came out all wrong. The waitress was snippy and made it obvious she was talking about us in her blob, even though we were nice, just needed our order fixed. It was just an awful experience and I am usually very easy going, patient, and understanding when I go out to eat especially here since I worked here many years ago, but this was just pathetic. I hope someone in management reads this and tries to fix things. I’ll spend my money elsewhere.

Stopped in on Christmas Eve prior to going to see the light show. When we arrived the grill was not overly business. However, I ask my husband to order the food when the waiter came to take the drinks to ensure we would not be late for our trolley ride — I believe this was a good move. The grill started to fill up. I did notice that a table that came in after us got their food way before us. Along with most of the other people that came in after left prior to us. So if you are in a bit of a rush I would not recommend here. We ordered cod & chips(which are homemade) and crab cake with sweet potato fries. The fried cod was good and hot and the chips were great. Now for the crab cake(I really should know better), it was fried but ended up being abit cool inside since it is a frozen crab cake — not fresh. When ask how things were, I pointed out that that crab cake was abit cool inside. The waiter wasn’t sure what to do by his body language(really only have 2 options — cooking it more or start over) so I ask if they had a microwave and to put it in for just about 8 to 10 seconds which warmed the inside fine. So the crab cake was fair to OK — would I order it again — NO, mostly backfin meat which is hot a higher quality crab cake When the waiter bought the bill he did state that he talked to the manager and that 30% was taken off the bill — one couldn’t ask for more since we had a few drinks on the table Our server had a assistance that seemed to help out wherever needed, so with this maybe addressing the service issue or just staffing heavy for the holiday season this year.

Terrible dining experience all around. Our waitress was inattentive and checked in about every 20 minutes. Our meals were served at completely different times. Out of a party of five, two meals were served at one time, then two more came 10 minutes later, and the final meal was served 30 minutes after the first two. My father’s meal was barely even warm and obviously had been sitting around for a while. My brother’s meal(the last one served) was barely cooked, giving the impression it had been forgotten on the line. All in all, the meal was an hour-forty endeavor that left us all craving more.
