I was fan but this place has been closed for at least 5 years… time to take it off of Unilocal!

I LOVETHISPLACE! Yes, I’m aware I gave it 1 star. If you’re looking for an absolute disaster of a night and underage crowds this is the place for you. I go about 2 times a year which is more than enough.

I’ll try my best to be fair and consider all parties who would be interested in reading about a bar in the midst of Westchester… if you are A) A guido/guidette, of any size, shape, or disposition B) Younger than 21 but want to go to a bar/club where you feel like an adult and can do so without getting served watered-down drinks C) a resident of White Plains/Scarsdale/Eastchester/Tuckahoe/Mamaroneck/Larchmont or greater Westchester who is bored one night D) in the mood to hear every cheesy, cliched 80’s and 90’s song ever played during last call at a bar … then The Thirsty Turtle is here for you. True, I myself frequented this establishment in my younger days. And admittedly(depressingly), I even went in my mid-20’s. Each time I would promise it would be the last … only to find myself bored yet again the following weekend and following my friends to Mamaroneck Ave for the inevitable bar crawl that would ensue: Karova Milk Bar, Thirsty Turtle, Blackbear Saloon … they’re all the same! Really nice bouncers and bartenders(I myself worked at three of those establishments in my heyday) but so much more potential elsewhere. The Thirsty Turtle will always serve as a fond memory of younger days when I didn’t have the cash flow, inclination, or motivation, to travel into Manhattan every weekend. Now that I live in Manhattan,(and don’t go clubbing at all) it’s not such a problem anymore. But I suspect if you happen upon the Turtle one night, you’ll no doubt still see some of those late 20– early 30-somethings, still trying to hold on to the glory days … kind of like high school for college grads — or maybe that’s pushing it.

The thirsty turtle, I don’t want to say over hyped because I honestly like the bar is legit decent vibe and they do sometimes bring in c list stars. Like Brett Michaels or Dunbar and other clowns from MTV’s the Real World. The live music there isn’t bad, and you can always catch a good mixture of cougars there and college girls. There’s def way to many underage kids being let into the bar, I know for a fact. They need to crack down on that, seriously that’s why your bar is losing status and ratings with a lot of people. When you can walk into a bar and see a guys or girls face and realize right away there young, not a good sign. You def need to have one of those free admission passes, bc honestly there cover charge they require, lmao is not worth it.

Thank god this bar is right in my backyard. Aside from the tasteful music, hot older gentlemen groping me, I’d have to say the meat stand out back was the icing on the cake. It’s the perfect place to get blackout drunk and hook up with a guy your mother would never approve of.

If there is one place in the world that I hope gets hit by a meteor or an atomic bomb, it would have to be Thirsty Turtle. If you want to observe guidos in their natural habitat on the weekend, this is the place. It seems like there is always a fight happening(especially if you look at their orange spray tan the wrong way) and there is occassionally a fist-pumping dance off to the techno remix of «Don’t Stop Believing» or a popular Benny Benassi tune. If this is what I have to put up with to get a vodka soda, I’ll drink at home.

I’ve been twice and hated it both times, not my crowd. The place seems like it is trying to be a college bar and the crowd seems to match. Yes they have live music, but the band or sound equipment was not that good when I was there so the band sounded terrible.

I ended up here last night for a bday. and I have to say I had a blast. The crowd was good – it was an older crowd, unlike previous reviews have said. We also paid 40 bucks to get it – and that included cover and all our drinks til 3am – definitely took advantage of that! It’s a decent layout, connected to Kelly’s – and the bartender’s are generous with the alcohol. The band that was playing was fun and the DJ played some decent music. I’ll go back if I’m in the area…

I enjoyed when I played this little hole in the wall. The crowd other than my friends(which wasn’t much) was friendly and got into my music. This is a very cozy place The drinks were ok not very large but not very costly. It had a very Portland feel to it which I liked. *Personal note: just in case you have some friends that want to come see you play if your a musician or just want to hang. They rarely card, so if you stay away from the bar and you’re golden!* *Not that I’m suggesting you sneak into a bar(wink wink)*

Ugh. A place for 21 year olds to go to because they don’t know there are better places than this to drink. I’ve been here a few times because there was live music, but i have to say, the crowd was so young that they were stupefied as to how to act in public, everyone just stands around and drinks their bud drafts and acts like this is a fraternity house, which gets boring very quickly. Three stars because, hey, it’s pretty cool that there is a live music venue in Westchester, and it’s an alternative to the four bars on Mamaroneck Ave. Other Westchesterites know of what I speak.

A pretty good bar for the college crowd in White Plains. The drinks are average price and there’s always a dj or some type of musical act. I’ve never been to the Turtle on a Saturday night, but it does get busy on Thursday and Friday nights. The crowd isn’t bad — mostly college age, if not a bit older. Often times the bar tenders will dance around on the bar and bust out free shots every now and again. Not a bad deal!
