We had an amazing night here and wished we could have stayed longer! We ate dinner around 9 and the staff was amazing, food was great, and service wasn’t slow at all. The pool and hot tub area is absolutely beautiful and their gym is very nice. The view is amazing and it seems like they have great outdoor activities. Our room was very small but the bed was amazing. Our only downside was not having a fridge but they have an ice machine so we figured it out. We can’t wait to come back for a longer time!

We were very impressed with our initial greeting. The staff has been fanatic throughout our stay and the inside is impeccable. Our dissatisfaction is with the amount of noise from the room next door and above us. We could hear a small child talking and someone coughing. Above us we heard endless walking across the floor. As large as this facility is and as few that are here, I would think they could have spread us out. We will choose different accommodations for our next stay in the area.

Great place to stay if you have kids– cross country trails, an active farm to learn about farm animals(our kid loves this!), and most notably — Axe throwing! It’s almost worth it to come for the axe throwing alone! We had a blast participating in this activity, and our two instructors Elaine and Jeff were awesome! If you can, ask for them — they are great! All of the outdoor activities make this a great place to stay! We are coming back in a few weeks with some friends for another great weekend! …oh yeah, the hotel is pretty cool too.

We’ve been coming here for several years over the winter and summer holidays and always have a good time. MVG is a gorgeous old hotel and a great place to bring the kids — pool, bingo, game room, tubing, farm animals, fire rings and smores, etc. The staff is very accommodating. We’ve always loved the New Years Eve party, which includes fun games for kids and adults alike. I’d like to see more vegetarian food options for the adults and some standard mac & cheese for unadventuresome kid palates. The«mountaineering club» for kids is a perfect place for the kids to have fun while adults have a little down time. Lots of great arts and crafts, and the kids love it. The food is good but they might consider expanding the vegetarian options(a veggie burger in the Harvest Tavern would be very welcome!). The managers care about what customers think and Ms Baker is a real positive asset who does a great job. One note — if you have trouble walking up and down stairs request a room on a lower floor, as the elevator is an authentic old manually operated elevator and at times you will need to wait for it for some time. I read a few of the negative Unilocal reviews for MVG and I think these people need to lighten up. Everybody, including bartenders, has an off day now and again. No need to engage in name-calling. I highly recommend MVG for a fun family get-away.

This place is absolutely beautiful. Their service is just awful. They had a deal on Groupon so I decided to check it out. Came up for one night… not exactly a disaster but they REALLY need to improve their service. We had dinner in the restaurant. The food was good. Our waiter was a moron and it was obvious that he was poorly trained. I ordered soup and an entrée. After about 20 minutes the waiter reports that the food will be «a little bit longer»…ok, where’s the soup? «I thought you wanted that with your entrée». I ask him what ever gave him that idea… no response. I tell him he needs to go fix it… he stares at me with a dumb look on his face. I literally have to shoo him off back to the kitchen so that he can fix his mistake before it ruins my meal. One minute later the manager comes out with my soup and offers a lame excuse. Forgot to mention… my glass is empty this whole time. The waiter never stopped by to see if we wanted refills of our drinks(but he did have to tell his life story to the table next to us). The soup was mediocre at best. The steaks were good I will say. We go to the bar get coffee and dessert. They can’t screw this up, right? Wrong. Coffee is delivered with no spoon to mix it. Bartender disappears. Dessert is delivered with a fork but no napkin. The next morning I came down to the lobby to get a coffee for me and my wife. Another service disaster. There are a dozen twenty-somethings standing around but nobody has time to check to make sure there is creamer. A waitress comes out and I ask her for lids for my coffees. Someone else tells her that there is no creamer. The creamer appears 5 minutes later… no lids. In sum… come for the majesty of the surroundings and the beautiful facility… but leave your expectations of adequate service at home… you will be disappointed. UPDATE: You can see by the manager’s response where the staff derives their lack of responsibility when things are not up to standards. Any good manager would have contacted the guest when he heard things didn’t go well on his watch. And… he clearly accepted his incompetent staff’s version of events rather than contacting me to hear my version before calls me rude and mean spirited. Clearly the problems here go right to the top.

My husband and I had a nice time here. The landscaping on the property is beautiful and the views are absolutely stunning. I love the front porch, too. We were very impressed by the sight of the hotel and the grounds when we arrived. There are a lot of things to do here, even without children, including visiting the farm(my favorite — meeting all the animals with the farmer was so much fun!) taking various classes at the farm(I knitted an arm scarf!) and more. The fitness center was excellent and has great equipment, and we enjoyed a swim in the indoor pool and a soak in the hot tub. We even checked out the sauna. We went to other things, too, but no one or few people attended(bingo, wine tasting). I’m not sure if it was still off-season(we went mid June) or if people just aren’t interested in these activities? Our rooms were promptly tended to each day and I was satisfied with the cleanliness of them. Turn-down service was a nice touch, too. Who doesn’t like coming back to their room after a day out with the blinds drawn for them, chocolates on the pillows, and a little light piano music playing on the tv? We also visited the spa a couple of times, which I really enjoyed. My husband and I signed up for the 25 minute Sok Tub experience, which is situated at the top of a tower and has stunning views of the White Mountains. I don’t think it’s worth the $ 100 they charge for it, but thankfully it was included in the romantic getaway package we booked and so we only had to pay the 20% gratuity. I also went back a different day for an aromatherapy massage and a pedicure and thoroughly enjoyed both. Everyone at the spa was very professional and friendly. The only disappointment at MVG was the food and the service at the restaurant on site, as many other reviewers have mentioned. The service was often spotty or slow. Many of the servers or food runners are young(it seems like they are locals who work here after they get out of school?) and therefore likely inexperienced. The food was overpriced, at least for dinner anyway. One dinner that consisted of soup & salad, a burger, and a shared dessert, along with 2 alcoholic beverages, cost us $ 81 after tip. That kind of meal, which is more akin to a lunch than a dinner, should have cost us $ 45 – 50 max. We did enjoy our trip and I give the MVG a thumbs up, but perhaps they could work out a few kinks in their restaurant and rethink some of their sponsored activities in order to increase interest and participation.
