An oasis in the wilds of North Whitefield. Urban provisions at rural prices, excellent farm to table food, well curated music(Little Joy and George Harrison one morning), genuinely nice staff and owners you want to support. The craft beer selection rivals any store in Maine and the building serves as a community center for various functions. A perfect complimentary piece for the second wave back to landers who are flocking to the area.

Sheepscot General is owned, run and sourced by Taryn and Ben Marcus, one of the sweetest, most talented, hardest-working, most welcoming and enterprising couple I’ve ever met who sell much of what they grow at their down-to-earth, warm-in-winter, cool-in-summer café. Far and wide there is nothing like their store and restaurant in Whitefield, Maine. Sheepscot General holds family-friendly open mic nights(3rd Fridays, monthly) when they supplement the entertainment by some of the best made-to-order homemade pizza around. Ben and Taryn’s bakers whip up delectable daily breads, pastries and pies that you cannot ignore. They open early, so grab breakfast. My personal favorite Sheepscot drink is their own kombucha in a variety of refreshing flavors. Try one of their sandwich specials made with local bacon or chicken & pesto, then slap some scalloped potatoes on the side if you’re really famished. Vegetarians can go for the Tempeh Reuben(Maine-made tempeh, of course!) Pick your own sweet-as-sugar strawberries in season(or buy them there) if you’re up this way in Maine, their food is excellent and healthy, their grocery is fully stocked and they use and sell the freshest, best-quality local vegetables, meats and cheeses, maple syrup… I could go on and on… Buy good wine and beer there too. Let’s keep these guys around!

I can’t say anything negative about this place! Their pick your own strawberries are outstanding, the food in the café has never disappointed and while you’re enjoying the food you can even do a little shopping for your own kitchen or pick up gifts from a local crafter or artist.
