Oldwick Animal Hospital

I thank everyone at the Oldwick Animal Hospital for saving my dog’s life. What I thought was typical aging, ended up to be cancer and Dr. Cailles diagnosed it. My dog is alive and healthy today, 1 year later, with no signs of cancer. Dr. Cailles is a talented veterinarian and a consummate professional with a good bedside manner. I read the review from Paul S. and was surprised. I didn’t find their prices to be any higher than other vets in the area. Regardless, I rather pay for sound medical advice and the best care for my beloved pet then risking her health at a discount rate.

Let me start by saying that the facility is very clean and modern. The staff from the receptionist to all three Veterinarians are top notch! They have a passion about what they do and always have your pet’s best interest in mind.

It is a beautiful building, very nice. People are also nice, or pretend to be nice and friendly. First impression was very positive. What one needs to realize, this real estate has to be paid for by someone, that is the customer of course. I went there twice, once with a small injury of my dog with a lot of tests and activity resulting in a huge bill. Then the second time I was talked into a bunch of exotic vaccinations I had never heard about (in addition to the usual annual 5 combo). «your dog may drink contaminated water somewhere, get infected with borellia something and die. Very dangerous disease.» Ended up with well over $ 500 for the extra vaccines and blood tests. (antibody titers etc etc.). Each time I brought the dog for shot and then for booster, another «physical exam» was billed. She just held the stethoscope to the chest for one second, that’s an extra $ 60.- on the bill. I questioned the need for the «physical examination» because this was never done when other vets gave the vaccines. I was told that she needs to make sure that the animal «is fit» for vaccination, if not «there is a risk the animal could die.» Always the scare factor… I asked why this is not been done with people who get vaccinated, I go to CVS and get my flushot without the need of a doctor examining me, just by the pharmacy assistant. She had no good answer for that. Bottom line, I felt they are bilking me, and I am sure I am no exception. Furthermore, all the extra stuff they talk you in also has potential risks of killing your pet. But they won’t tell you that of course. Apparently, they are known for these business practices amongst their vet colleagues.

I’m in my 60’s & I’ve been involved in dog rescue for 30 years so I’ve met lots of veterinarians. Oldwick Animal Hospital is the best veterinary practice that I have ever used. I wish my human doctor was somewhere near as accommodating as the doctors at Oldwick. They are knowledgable in practice, fastidious in technique and generous of their time. An added benefit is the exquisite «green» building designed by the doctors themselves. I’ve been going here for years and the Oldwick Animal Hospital earns my highest recommendation.
