I stopped by Mamaw’s Fried Pies on a Friday morning and found a pleasant surprise… fried pies that were outstanding! My wife and I were traveling with her mother and we were ready for a sweet treat.
Imagine flakey crust that is pleasantly crisp without being greasy, and fruit fillings that are a perfect balance of sweet and tart. The pies at Mamaw’s were all this and more. We sampled apricot, cherry, pecan, coconut and apple fruit pies and my wife enjoyed a breakfast pie of bacon, egg & cheese. All were great and very filling.
The service was quick and friendly and the owner, who owns the shop with her twin sister, sat with us for a bit and told the history of the business. Mamaw’s is named after the owners’ mother and uses her recipes. This is a great East Texas find!
