Just when I finally think UpTown Whittier and I are thru, places like Ambrose keep me coming back for more. Delish pizza. Clean and nice enough seating. I’ve never had bad service here. I”ve never had a bad time here that I can recall. It’s definitely the best place for pizza in uptown. Sadly they were out of the pasta Alfredo or I would have had that as well. Yeah, so what. I’m hungry.

I went here last night for a friend’s birthday. It’s got a kind of homey feel, with tables you gotta push together for a big party and paper plates and plastic cups. But I have to say that we had some delicious pizza here. The carnivores in our group got a pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms. I had a slice after I gorged myself with the other pizza, and it was just too meaty(but I’m not a big meaty pizza person). The rest of us got the Uptown pizza and it is DE-LI-CIOUS. Spinach, basil, feta cheese, ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, and«white sauce.» It is comparable to the White Pizza at CPK but I think this one was a lot better. The crust left a little to be desired, but that was my only complaint. You can also get pitchers of either domestic OR import for 10 bucks. And the chick working there was super cool. And there is an arcade in the back. One pizza connoisseur in our group said it was better than Red Brick Pizza. I don’t know because I’m lame and haven’t been there. But I have been to Ambrose, and it was pretty sweet. And cheesy. And by that I mean lots of cheese.

This is one of those places in Uptown that just weathers the economic, fad, trend, and taste storms through the decades. I’ve eaten here a few times. I’ve spent more time here playing Street Fighter 2. That was in the early ‘90s. I liked it. It was cool to be old enough to be allowed to hang out and to be able to use your own money to buy soda and then spend the rest of it on video games.

What is up with Whittier and their lack of good pizza joints? I was there last night, tired after a class and the place was EMPTY. My boyfriend and I were the only customers. I’m okay with that especially since the boy can watch Monday night football in peace. Now, the service was GREAT. That’s why I’m giving the three stars. These people act like you are their buddy from high school, but their pizza is another story. We got it quickly but all I had to do was look at it and I knew it was going to be tasteless. Hardly any sauce and the cheese was bland and TWO pepperoni’s per slice. I tasted it. Disappointed of course. Will I come here again? No.

This was THE pizza place to go to in uptown when I was a kid. And the pizza was great. Thick delicious crust, cheesy creamy, good home-made-taste sauce… Bubbling hot but you’d burn your mouth cuz you couldn’t wait… I hadn’t been there in a LONG time. Partly because now they seem to be sporadically open — its hit and miss. I don’t know what happened. The pizza I had was TERRIBLE. Like bad mall pizza. The restaurant is cute — set up nicely. It’s probably a good place to go and sit up front — looking out onto the street — they serve beer. And if you drink enough — the taste of the pizza would be less of an issue. That’s all I can say. I’m disappointed. …If it was a fluke — and I decide to try again and it’s better — I will update.
