Art With Sara

Best place ever for kids to be able to express their artistic side. Week after week the kids learn different techniques to add to their already learned techniques. Week after week they display the kids artwork which just makes them want to try hard to get their artwork on display.

I planned an art party here with my mother in law an her friends. There were about 10 of us. Sara was our instructor. It was so much fun. The prices are great and Sara makes sure everyone is satisfied with their work before you leave. Sara let us choose our painting and customize it to colors we loved. Most of us even used her custom stencils. She let us choose if we wanted stencil or free hand. She taught us both. It was non stop laughter. We had wine an appetizers and laughed the whole time. Everyone was highly satisfied. This place takes birthday parties to a new level. I recommend this place to everyone and I will be back.

My 7 year old daughter has been taking lessons here for about a year. She loves the teachers & is very comfortable in this classroom environment. She looks forward to her class every week, and the great thing is that we are able to reschedule her class if there is a scheduling conflict. She had learned so much! Worth every penny.

My son loves art classes here! I am impressed by how much he has learned in a very short time. His teachers are enthusiastic and encouraging. We drive 45 minutes each way for this class each week, which is tough, but worth it.

My daughter has attended art camps and classes at reputable studios, and this, by far, has been her favorite. This is her second class, and she is counting the days until her next class. Due to the limited space in the studio, parents must wait outside, but you are able to see them through the window or may park in front of the studio (as I do). The staff all has a cheerful disposition and was even willing to allow my daughter to start a week before (due to the fact that I showed up a week too early). The student are able to begin a new art piece as quickly as they finish, and at the end of each class, there is a mini art show/​presentation of their art work/​work in progress. My concern was allowing my daughter to implement her own creativity. My daughter was allowed to pick her art piece and colors and was allowed to add the details of her choice. How do I know if I’m not allowed in? …I asked her many questions. They create their artwork just as muralists do, using a grid. Since I’m not present during the class, I’m unable to say whether or not they are implementing vocabulary to support the elements of art. I’ll have to see if my daughter uses the vocabulary when describing her art pieces to me.

My son has been a student at Art with Sara since he was 15 years old and he will soon be 20 years old. Sara, Sam and the staff at Art with Sara have instilled great confidence in him and taught him the skills to go along with that confidence. They gave him information to create his own website for selling his art and he has made quite a few sales! He has taken art courses in both high school and college and still prefers those he takes at Art with Sara. When I approached Sara and told her my 14 year old son with autism is often told he is good at art and I was hoping to find a studio to help him learn the fundamentals and develop his style, she didn’t hesitate to encourage him to enroll at Art with Sara. It has been one of the best decisions we ever made.

We took our five year old twins here and were disappointed given the rave reviews. First, they don’t allow parents to stay, which we were not comfortable with given we had never met these people. So after expressing our concerns, they made an exception. I stayed back and didn’t intervene or help the kids so as to not get in the way. Here is what I observed:
Pros:
1. The student-​teacher ratio was great. Each teacher was responsible for one row of maybe 5 students. There were four teachers when we attended.
2. At the end of the session they do a «gallery walk» where they have each child go up and the teacher talks about what a great job they did with their art work. Kids really enjoyed this part. Very cool.
Cons:
1. My son wanted to add a sun to his picture, which apparently was a no-​no. Its somewhat rigid in that they have to draw exactly what is there and nothing else. Not what we were expecting. The teacher even erased what he had drawn and re-​drew 75% of it for him. She seemed nice about it, but the point was to have my child’s art on my fridge, not hers.
2. Despite not allowing parents to stay, they don’t watch your kids. At one point one of my twins decided to get up and go look at what they had in their cabinets, even getting up on a step stool and opening drawers, etc. Two teachers saw him and neither told him not to do that or to return to his seat. Eventually, I made eye contact with him and sent him back with a few stern looks.
3. They came home with some great art work, but it wasn’t their art, it was mostly their teacher’s art.
So, if you are looking for a place to drop off your (slightly older than 5) kids for an hour and half and have them come home with a great piece of art (mostly done by a teacher) this is the place for you.
If, like us, you are looking for a place for your child to learn about art and the different mediums, in a safe environment, while also being allowed to be creative and add his/​her own touch, then you should look elsewhere.

My daughter has been going to art classes since November of last year and she ABSOLUTELY loves it, she looks forward to it every week! The instructors are great. Definitely recommend this place to everyone, you will not be disappointed.

This is a great place for kids yo learn and have fun with art. I have my niece in a class and she loves it. I am glad I found this great place.. Worth every penny. .plus the staff is great with kids. very good atmosphere. Love this place

For toddler, don’t take the class if Sara is teaching! She does the art work for them and does not encourage them to try and learn for themselves!

We booked a pastel party with Sara tom celebrate my Daisy Troop’s bridging to brownies. Sara was wonderful, super accommodating and patient with me, I had to reschedule our party a few times and customized our pastel session to match our celebration. Guess what she had the girls draw? Daisies! She was great with our girls (picture ten 5 & 6 year old girls loaded with sugar). They loved it, us mom’s loved it and it was nice to be able to stay local and support a local business. Definitely recommend Art with Sara!

Our daughters Paris and Trinity have had the time of their lives at Summer Art Camp. We have a stack of beautiful paintings they’ve drawn in our living room and Paris was even honored with having one of her paintings displayed in the front window and on the Art with Sara Facebook page:

My sister and I decided to celebrate our birthday with some of our friends at Art with Sara. We selected a 2 hour project, reserved the date in advance for a private party and invited 8 of our friends to join us.
I was very pleased with the outcome. I don’t consider myself an artist. I can’t draw a stick figure to save my life. But Sara’s easy to understand instructions and one on one guidance had me creating an awesome painting. Every single one of us in the class had a great 16×20 canvas painting to take home at the end of the class.
The other nice part was that she allowed us to bring drinks and snacks to munch on during the class. We listened to our ipod music and had a blast!
I can’t wait to go back for another class. I may just be an artist after all!

My fiancé, mother, and I went to art and wine last night at Art with Sara, and it was fantastic! She taught us about color theory, different paint strokes, and of course how to paint our masterpieces — all to beginners! She was very patient, lots of fun, and of course an excellent artist. It was a great night!
