Wow on the prices! The place is staffed with very enthusiastic and helpful volunteers. The selection varies but it’s always good! The only downside is the hours of operation. I wish they opened more often and for longer periods of time. It still a wonderful place.

Found some amazing reads here. Brought 5 $ and walked out with what seemed a pile high of books in my arms! Highly recommend.

I have not been much of am avid reader but I recently read my first Stephen King book. I wanted to read one of his best books The Shining and I was not disappointed. After reading it I wanted to continue reading his books so I stopped by a couple book stores before stopping here and this is the best place to get reading matériel.
They had quite a bit of Stephen King Books at 50 cents each, which was amazing because the other stores were selling similar ones for almost 10 $ but here they are only 50 cents and they are really nice people so It’s a win win buying from this store.

I really like this little book shop. The books are really cheap and you can often find bestsellers and classics hidden among the shelves. The chances of this shop having the exact book you’re looking for are slim, but I’d still give this place a go if you have some time to kill.

This place is HUGE and has lots of books and magazines of varying prices. You can find older books for 25¢, but newer books are priced accordingly ($ 1 and up).
The books and mags are nicely organized by genre. They have a nice selection of SF (rare in a library bookstore) and children’s books.
I love browsing here because you never know what you’ll find. I found some highly collectable old skateboard magazines, first editions of favorite books, all at bargain prices.
A couple of the workers are cranky old sods, but that’s offset by the majority who are very nice and helpful.
Just wish I lived closer so I could stop by weekly.

a VERY low-​priced book store. though, if you aren’t looking for classics that aren’t the most popular books, you may not find it here.

This used book store is great although the hours are limited as it’s run by volunteers. Proceeds from the sale of books go towards programs at the Whittier Public Libraries. The prices are incredible! Many books are from 50 cents to 1.00. There’s also a section called «Gift Books» with hardcover gently used best sellers that sell for 3 – 5 dollars. They also have sheet music, records, and some cds and dvds. They’re open on Tuesday from 10 – 2, Friday from 9 – 12 and Saturdays from 10 – 2. It’s pretty well organized and definitely worth a visit.

Each book is either 50 cents or $ 1. That’s my kind of used book store. I wasn’t planning on stopping by, though the weekly sale (that directly benefits my favorite library) had been a staple in the early years of my book-​craving life. This was my first time visiting in years.
Some of the books were in really bad shape, musty and dusty and brown, water damaged. But I could see that the volunteers were really trying to make some sense out of the piles of books; some sections were even in alphabetical order. I left with a relatively well-​preserved copy of Women in Love and Little Children (pretty tattered paperback).
They have a couple sections for fiction in hardcover and paperback, larger editions have a separate section. There’s mystery, classics, technical manuals, romance, new arrivals, travel, religion, Westerns.
After browsing upwards of an hour, we checked out… at the register an older woman with a curled upper lip barked out «$ 5!» I asked, «They’re not all 50 cents?» I thought I’d asked innocently enough… For five books I thought it was a pretty good deal, I was just asking for some clarification. Cash register volunteer explained condescendingly that three were one dollar books and two were 50 cents. Got it.

Cheap books, magazines, stuff, and more stuff.
I almost always find good theology books and magazines there. My wife finds the best children’s books. Lots of obscure foreign language books.
Magazines are often up-​to-​date. I can usually get the most current copy of Wine Spectator, Traditional Home, and other interesting magazines. It just depends on who’s donating when.
It’s really satisfying to only pay 7 bucks and come away with a box full of interesting and unique books and magazines.
The hours are weird, and the workers are, er… interesting… but it’s a great institution in Uptown. I try to get over there at least once a month.
I always find something I can’t live without for a price I can’t afford not to pay…
