The Gear Head Inn

My wife and I were on the way to the casino for the weekend, and we didn’t have a room (the casino hotel and its affiliates were all booked). I told my wife to get on the phone and find a place, and The Gear Head Inn was the first she found. She called and booked (the lady she spoke to sounded really nice). As we drove towards the motel, we passed several closed, shuttered and dilapidated motels. We came to the now defunct Teddy Bear Motel, and the Gear Head Inn was just a bit further up.
To our surprise, the Gear Head Inn was well maintained, clean and comfortable. The staff was excellent, and the theme of the hotel lent a certain charm. We stayed in the Chevelle SS suite. I told my wife that I felt like I was cheating on my wife, with my wife. It helped to make the weekend extra fun. We would stay again. Thanks Gear Head Inn.

Great accommodations, very friendly owners. Mountain bike and biker friendly. Clean pool and rooms. The whole joint has a car theme. A must stay in the area!

This comfy Inn was purchased 9 months ago from a pakistani who didn’t care about anything other than taking your money. All the rooms were in disrepair and in dire need of upgrading. The owners, Jim and Mary, purchased the property with a vision in mind of revamping the place and giving it the needed TLC and character it needed. The work is still very much in progress but what has been done already is numerous and obvious. The ownership cares and it shows. I had the honor of hanging out at the end of both of my nights there with the owners around the fire pit they keep blazing in the evenings. Joining us were the other guests of the day. The type of people that stay here are all of the same mind set which means it was beer, wine, vodka, smores and great convo among total strangers in the mountains in the chill fall air. This place is small, unassuming, inexpensive, and the location gives you quick and direct access to both Cherokee and Bryson City. I will be back.
