Prices are high and management/sales are the rudest people.

I could fill this review with cliché and metaphor, but I’ll try to keep it simple. I joined a gym as a new years resolution to lose weight like all the rest of the lazy bums who did nothing the year before except eat. I spent about a week contemplating my choices and Genesis, though it had some draws backs, seemed like the right fit for what I wanted. Drawbacks: My friends call me commitment phobic and I say whats wrong with having the ability to walk away from everything with absolutely no worries. Well at least for the next 12 months I am in a commited relationship with a gym. And yes I understand that my natural sarcasm loses something in the written form. Although the prices are higher than the other options in town; they try to be competitive. The next thing you notice is the subtle similarities that the management have to car salesmen.(always be closing, or you’ll die) This attitude is completely understood, because you are in their office for a reason and they are going to do their best to get you to sign above that dotteed line. Don’t get me wrong; the staff here is extremely nice and will most likely remember your face, but in the initial phases you’ll feel that salesman attitude that tends to be the trademark of a car lot. Advantages: Get past the cloud of salesmantudity(yes, I understand that’s not a word and I don’t care) and you will see a staff that seems to be happy with where they work. This quality means the world to a patron when the negativity is not flowing through the air. The cardio equipment is state of the art and has individual tv’s on each machine. What this means is that my natural instict to sit in front of the idiot box now becomes healthy. When I was a child; my babysitter was the TV and scholars condemned that kind of parenting, but now look at me. Well maybe I’m not the best example, but then again I’d choose tv over actual thought any day. And if that convenience wasn’t enough; they have iphone/ipod docks on each machine… awesome. The biggest advantage in my eyes is that this particular gym is not that crowded and I can work out in peace. The intimidation factor is greatly reduce when you are not working out in a crowded gym, filled with obsessive healthy people. These overachievers make us slobs feel inadequate and of course I’m joking, but again my sarcasm is lost in the written form. In conclusion: Advatages: friendly staff, less crowded, high tech equipment, clean environment. Did I mention friendly staff. Drawbacks: commitment(of course that’s my issue, it may not be yours) and slightly steeper prices.
