I have had two of my properties managed by Northstar. Communication was always terrible, and getting a hold of my property manager was often almost impossible. Quotes and bids for repairs more significant than basic handyman work would take weeks to months to receive. While saving money to perform repairs on a tenant damaged property so that we could get another tenant in, Northstar sent me a letter saying they would no longer manage my property. The key to the property was supposed to accompany the letter, but it was missing. They weren’t making money without a tenant and it was going to require some paperwork to get a new one, so why bother? So now I have to get new repair quotes to give to a new property manager or realtor, and that’s if I ever get my key back. Northstar will clearly not be pursuing the collections against my former tenant, so I guess I’ll just eat the thousands in repairs. Landlords: Stay away. Tenants: Apparently you can do whatever you want, because they’ll never come inspect the property and it’s too much work to manage a delayed repair process.
