The fries here are the best I’ve ever had from a drive through. I can even save a few for the next day and eat them cold out of the fridge. You can’t even say that about pommes frites in Paris!

This review goes specifically to their breakfast items. Back in Cali we have Johnny Rockets and in KS it’s Spangles. This old traditional 60s type burger diner is a popular one. I just love the design from the outside; old chrome look with a midwestern/southern feel to it. Their breakfast items are the best I’ve had as far as fast food goes. I ordered their sourdough bread with sausage & eggs and their sourdough bread with diced ham % eggs w/melted cheese. These run about $ 2-$ 3 but will do the job for sure. I LOVE their hash browns! their almost like tater tots but more crispy and buttery tasting. For only $ 3 you can get a large 16 oz cup filled with tater tots! they aren’t too salty either and they have a McDonalds nugget type size. Hands down this business is one that I’ll continue to go to especially for breakfast!

I have no idea why everyone in Kansas loves this place. It’s not great for the price and the food isn’t that good either.

Marketing works! If you’re in Wichita and watch any TV you will see a Spangles commercial… or twelve. So we kept seeing the commercial for the new mini M&M Mudslide and decided we needed… er, wanted one. The small was $ 2.99 and was actually a really good size. And by good I mean portion wise… not so good calorie wise I’m sure. It was soft serve ice cream, mini M&Ms and oddly enough the chocolate syrup that hardens when it gets cold. I thought it was like hot fudge sauce and I think that would have been better as the chocolate hardened so much this was really hard to eat. The ice cream was melty and the chocolate was hard so you either dripped ice cream on you or got a big glop of chocolate and M&Ms that was like biting on a rock. A tasty rock, to be sure, but still… We went back for breakfast on our last day in Wichita it was great! We got the breakfast platter for $ 3.99 which had your choice of sausage or bacon and eggs, hash rounds, and a bagel, plus cream gravy. The gravy seemed an odd choice since there wasn’t a biscuit included but it was still good. The food was hot and fresh and quick and cheap. What more can you ask for from a fast– food restaurant? Plus it’s a local joint so you know your money stays in town!

Date: 05/14/2012 Location 6411 E. Central Phone: 316−691−1700 Time: 4:18PM Order No. 160 Order Type: Dine-In Dine In Total: $ 12.10 Host/Manager: David Employee: Nicole I recieved Dbl Chzburger without the meat the first time. The second time I recieved room temperature meat not freshly made. I also recieved cold fries mixed with the cold fries that were in the pan upon entering Spangles but I chose not to mention this. Nicole the front cashier argued with me as she was going to the restroom because I said that whoever prepared the burger should’ve got it right. Additionally, I should have received a free fry or something. The second time I recieved room temperature meat not freshly made. The manager was in the office and I knocked on the glass object to get his attention. David said that he heard the situation yet He couldn’t have heard the employee’s words back by the restroom area while sitting in the office. The third time I return the burger the manager David said he’d cook the meat in the microwave, he said that male employee had freshly cooked the meat and I told David that if he believed this then just touch the meat on his skin or taste it and see that it is not even warm. This last time the meat was hot from David as it should’ve been at the beginning. No Free Food Even Offered!

Spangles is NOTGOOD! They are always dirty inside and the food is TERRIBLE!!! Also the majority of the people who work there are dirty and not well groomed. I have no idea why people even eat at spangles! The last time I went there some employee with extra long fingernails was playing with her hair & the cook wiped his sweat off his greasy face with his work shirt!!! Similar to a Johnny Rockets, Spangles offers the 50’s-60’s type of atmosphere and food. I tried the Grilled Chicken Pita and was surprised on how good it was. The pita alone was $ 4.30 which I feel is $ 1 to much but it was worth it. Not the best I have ever had but considering it is «fast food» I will give it a 4.

Annoying commericals, slow service, and bland burgers. I talked with a guy In Oklahoma City who was franchising out Whataburgers and he said the reason he wouldn’t open one in Wichita was because he thought he couldn’t compete with Spangles. So, that’s even more reason for me to hate this place, it’s keeping good fast food options from coming to town. The only two tolerable things are the Breakfast Club on Pita and the Sourdough Philly Cheesesteak. I’d honestly choose any other fast food burger joint over Spangles, they really offer very little.

Spangles has something over most of the fast burger chains. The prices are fair. The true experience can only be gained by dining in. Avoid the lunch hour drive through when the burger isn’t as fresh and the fries are either piping hot or cold. Dine«in» and take your time and they are more likely to make the burger fresh. You are also more tempted to have dessert too. A good fast food option.

Let’s face it: I’m running out of new restaurants to try. I still have some saved in my hip pocket, of course, but I’m mostly just stopping at miscellaneous places as I drive by them at this point. What better miscellaneous place is there to visit than Spangles? It seems like there are more and more regional burger chains, fan favorites that they either rave about(to the annoyance of anyone within earshot) — In ‘n Out — to quiet favorites that are just popular within the area — Whataburger — they lend a little bit of local flavor to home and generally slightly better fare than what can be provided by the national chains, if only because it’s much easier to obtain better ingredients on their smaller scale. Spangles grew out of the Coney Island hot dog restaurant in the late 70s, which decided to change their name it could be franchised. Despite this, their growth has been slow to leave Wichita, with only a couple of locations in Topeka and Kansas City. They remain a popular fast food option in this city, offering the standard burger fare, along with some less-common options like pita sandwiches(betraying the founders Lebanese heritage) and — for whatever reason — Asian rice bowls. It’s the burger I was after — the 1⁄3 pound Gourmet Supreme, named WIchita’s best burger, according to a banner I saw as I went through the drive thru. It was substantial enough to be better than what’s offered at places like McDonalds, and better-tasting, too, probably because of that benefit of still being a fairly small operation. I would think it’s because they’re able to source their beef a little more locally than some larger chains, but maybe it’s just seasoned a little better. I compare it to the other large Wichita-based chain, Freddy’s, and prefer Spangles, if only because their burger isn’t squished to high hell and to the point of being dry. The fries aren’t as good as Freddy’s — they’re the standard slightly battered frozen variety that places like Barn’rds offer. And neither place is as good as any of the deluge of other burger shops in this city. That’s the fundamental problem of Spangles in general — Wichita has so many pretty good burgers that it’s laughable that any collective would vote Spangles as the best. Even at this location alone, I could drive across the street to Nu Way, or up the road to Bionic Burger, and get a better product, albeit at a more expensive price. Still, in relation to other fast food burgers, Spangles will remain a better option until they expand too far, which at this rate will be sometime around 2050.

I really like Spangles because it’s really great food that isn’t pricey. I love going here for breakfast because it’s very cheap. I always have great service and the people are very nice. I could go here for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I love spangles. As far as a good burger is concerned spangles is at the top of the list for at least Wichita. Now it can’t compete with some smaller places like some mom and pop burger joints but it blow McDonalds and Burger King out of the water.

Haven’t had Spangles since high school. We went there today and it brought back memories. Just like I remembered it, fries in a cup. :) The burger was huge and delicious… Good stuff!

I’m not really a big«fast food» fan, but I was craving somethin’ greezy this weekend and thought Spangles sounded good since it’s near my house. I like to support local business anytime I can, too. My friends and I had an awesome experience. The service was great-not a single complaint. All of the staff we encountered was very helpful and friendly. And the food was divine! I got a grilled chicken pita with fries and a drink; and even got a giant vanilla cone for dessert. The chicken pita was delish and the fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy. The meal was reasonably priced and I only paid about 95 cents for the cone, which was GI-normous. Needless to say, I was a happy girl :) I can’t speak for ALL of the Spangles in Wichita, but this location has it right. I’m definitely a fan :)
