Honestly, I wish Dr. Oplinger worked on people, too — I would go out of my way to come to him.
I brought my cat to him when he was just a little guy, and the doctor couldn’t have been any sweeter to him… now this may sound like a generic sort of statement, but to me, it showed a real love for his profession.
Now… several years later, we had to bring in my grandmother’s dog. This dog, though sweet, absolutely despises having his nails clipped — I cannot stress the amount of hatred he has for it — and because of this, his nails looked a fright. I’d been expecting a bit of judgment, but there was none. I was also expecting absolute chaos given the above mentioned nail-​clipping-​hatred… but, much to our surprise, the good doctor swept him into the back, and aside from a single whimper, there wasn’t a peep from the pup. The whole thing took less than ten minutes. HUGE shock.
I would absolutely recommend Dr. Oplinger — he is a good doctor and a good man!

I have two dogs and live in the desert. During the current Monsoon season my dog licked a poisonous toad and started vomiting. Not only did Dr. Oplinger help me through this very difficult and confusing time (my dog kept vomiting and wouldn’t eat for almost a week) he returned my call after-​hours and followed up throughout the ordeal. I feel very confident having Dr. Oplinger as my Vet as he’s carying and compassionate and understands how important our pets are to us as they are part of our family.

Dr. Oplinger and his staff have done more for my family by caring for my dogs than they will ever know. Besides the best care I have ever received for my dogs, his office charges are far less than half what I had to pay the last place I lived.

My family has been bringing our pets (dogs and cats) here as long as I can remember.
It was a sad day this past weekend, when my 16 year old beagle’s health rapidly took a turn for the worse. She had been blind and deaf for 5 – 6 years already, and had a known tumor on her side, but was generally one of those dogs you believe will outlive YOU. Anyway, she hadn’t eaten in 4 days, even after coaxing her with hamburgers, hot dogs and wet dog food. On Friday, she stopped drinking water. On Saturday, I stopped by Dr. Oplinger’s office to have a discussion about euthanasia (without bringing in my dog, Penny). First, I spoke with his receptionist, who was very polite and understanding. She offered to squeeze me in to speak with the veterinarian directly.
The consult lasted only about 5 minutes, but during that time, Dr. Oplinger spoke with such grace, compassion and knowledge. He explained to me the «death process» for dogs, what I could expect, etc. After our discussion, he told me that if I decided to humanely euthanize her, that I would just need to call in and let them know I was coming.
I went home, saw how deteriorated her health had become, and after about 30 minutes, decided the most difficult and loving decision were one and the same. Even though the office technically closed at 12 noon, they stayed a few minutes after when I told them I was on my way. They waited even longer for my dad to join me. When the doctor came in, he lovingly pet Penny, talking to us all the while. Through the whole process, he was very, very understanding and compassionate. He never rushed us.
Although it was a terrible situation, I am glad that Dr. Oplinger was able to guide me through it. He’s an excellent veterinarian, both in sickness and in health. On my way out, he offered to just bill me (instead of having to pay now), but I opted to pay. They only charged me $ 40. I cannot recommend this vet enough: his love for animals and his understanding of the pet-​owner relationship is beyond measure.
