We had a lot of family fun on our 2-hour tour this weekend. We started with a goat milking lesson and everyone who wanted got a turn. There were also a few Pygmy goats running around and a rabbit to play with in the barn. We then did a hayride to the pumpkin patch where you can pick out your own pumpkin(prices range from $ 1 for a tiny one to $ 10 for a massive one). After we got back to the main area, we set off walking with the rest of the group to see the rest of the animals, including: chickens(and holding a baby chick), ponies, sheep, more goats, an emu, turkeys, pigs, llamas, and rabbits. There was also a chance to brush one of the ponies. At the very end everyone gets a small cup of apple cider and there are some packaged cookies. There’s a little«market» on tables that sells some things made by the farm(sauces, salsas, dip mixes, goat milk soap, etc) and assorted knit/crafty goods. Price per person is $ 10(over age 1) and everything at the farm, including admission, is cash only. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and great with all the little kids. The animals all seemed well taken care of and appropriately housed, fed, etc. from what I observed. We had a wonderful time with our 2 ½ year old and will definitely go back again.

We visited Sunrock farm this morning. The tour cost $ 10/person(free under 1), and was CASHONLY. I’d give it mixed reviews. I love that the experience is so hands on. The kids loved feeding the baby goats bottles, milking a goat, brushing the horses hair, gathering eggs, touching a chick, petting pigs and alpacas. I’d say for the most part, we were all pretty happy with the visit; however there were two things that could have made the visit better. Firstly, when I called to inquire about tours I was given some dates and told that for a tour to happen there needed to be at least 10 people. When our group arrived(we were a party of 10 ourselves), we joined a party of 30 or so. They split us into two smaller groups, but still I wish I had had the wherewithal to request a new tour date(since we met the 10 person minimum) just for us in hopes of having a smaller group. I had no idea when we reserved that there were so many people already signed up for that day. Or that the reservationist would have suggested a new tour date for us. Our group was just too big and unwieldy. I think we would have benefited from more focused attention. Secondly, after the tour was over we wanted to sit and eat lunch(we had brought our own). I asked about picnic benches, etc and was directed to drive off the property to a small park overlooking some water. I was hoping we could have used the picnic benches there… my 3 year old was hungry! I understand though, I guess, not wanting to have to pick up garbage left by sloppy visitors, but still some sort of designated snacking area would have been appreciated. We ended up eating there anyway, sitting on a little bench just at the entrance, and we picked up before we left. I’d do it again, I think, but make sure to find a day when as few people as possible were registered, or to have my own party of 10 and schedule my own date, AND to let people know that there was limited eating facilities on the farm/make plans for lunch afterwards. For those interested in performing some of these activities/similar activities at other locations in Cinci, try Parky’s Farm in Winton Woods, the Cincinnati Zoo, and Gorman Heritage Farm.

Earlier this week my family and I visited Sunrock Farm for a two hour family tour. We joined several other families on a highlight tour of the most enjoyable areas of the farm. All of the children in attendance were able to milk a goat, bottle feed baby goats, gather eggs, hold a baby chick, pet a pig, and brush a horse. Farmer Frank was our guide for the morning, offering many jokes, as well as tons of information about the animals. The cost of the tour is $ 10 per person and reservations can be made by calling(859) 781‑5502. Sunrock Farm also offers school tours, day camps, traveling petting farm, birthday parties, and much more.
