I came to Willcox with some friends to do some wine tasting. The place looked cool. It had grape vines all the way around the building which,(I found out from the guy working there) was also the winery where they actually made the wines! We were greeted by the guy working the tasting room when we walked in. It was a fairly spacious room with artwork on the walls and a giant window showing the barrel room(which was housing several barrels of different kinds of wines). So cool. My friends split a flight of Passion Cellars wine and I tried the new Salvatore Vineyards wine, which is the reserve line for Passion Cellars. We could not believe how good the wine was. Apparently this outfit had just won several awards from the San Francisco Chronicle wine competition and I could see why. We went to several other wineries that day but Passion was my favorite. We each bought a couple bottles so our tastings were free. Knowledgeable staff. Will go again.

I stopped in at Passion Cellars on the way to Apple Annie’s Orchard. I had a copy of a wine magazine. It said the tasting room was open by appointment only, this wasn’t true. The place looked pretty deserted, but we tried the door and it was open. The woman working the tasting room let us know they do have regular hours and the magazine was incorrect. She had traveled down from Scottsdale, and was working in Willcox for the weekend. Passion Cellars will be opening a Scottsdale tasting room and she was in training. Passion Cellars also has a location in Jerome, Arizona but the grapes are grown in the Willcox area. Passion has about 80 acres of grapes in the Willcox area. We shared one tasting and chose white wine, $ 12 for five pours. They also offer a red tasting, and a sweet tasting. In addition to wine they also sell a agave based achoholic drink with flavors like cranberry and passion fruit. The agave drink is made in California. We tried the wines and they were pretty good. The tasting room is large, functional, and basic. There is a large parking lot and some grapes planted around the building. I bought two bottles of wine, well a bottle of wine and a bottle of the cranberry agave drink. The Pino Grigio was a bit pricey at $ 35 and the agave cranberry cost $ 22. The tasting was complementary with the purchase of two bottles. Overall, the wine was good, but the prices are on the higher side. The tasting room is not located near any of the other Willcox tasting rooms, so it takes a bit of extra effort to get to Passion Cellars.
