Took my 8 year old to get a pair of cleats for fall baseball. I guess since its football season the people working the shoe department couldn’t be bothered. when I finally found someone to help me, I could tell I was a bother and had interrupted the 2 employees’ very important conversation. Oh, how I wish there was a real sporting goods store close by.

It might be harsh to rate only one star, but the service at this particular Dick’s is awful. When I first went to the store, I didn’t see any employees on the floor or offering any assistance, which was fine since I didn’t need any. While making my purchase, they waited until there were nine people in line to open a second register. The cashier was fairly slow, maybe it was her first week or so, but so was the other cashier. After that visit to the store, I would rate three stars since it was relatively«get in, get out» However returning my items to the store was frustrating. I had the receipt and the items and my card, but the cashier wasn’t engaging, only talking when she asked me to throw the plastic bag away(odd request to a customer). Then at the end of the return, she states two items aren’t on the receipt, then gave me my items and started talking with the customer behind me, ringing them up. I had to speak over her to get my original receipt back, which didn’t have those products on it. So go to this Dick’s if you want bad service and maybe not have all your items be ringed up at all(hey, free stuff I guess), because the associates certainly don’t care.

The service was perfectly friendly and nice and the store was clean. Those are the only reasons I’m giving 2 stars to this store. I went to this Dicks to buy my husband a hunting bow, which I admit I don’t know much about. The«specialist» they had on staff that day seemed to know less than me though. I bought the bow, arrows and a couple accessories with the help of this guy. My husband went back the next day to get it set up to his arm length and the guy set it too long but still cut the arrows even though my husband said it seemed too long. We went to a different Dicks and they immediately noticed that the sting was fraying. We were told that he wouldn’t be able to shoot it. The worst part is that it looked like they tried to wax down the frays to hide it. This could’ve been extremely dangerous. My husband had to buy a different bow that costed more because they didn’t carry this model. After the actual specialist set it up for him they noticed that the arrows were cut too short and then that he were sold arrows for the wrong weight bow. Thankfully they were able to refund it for us even though it was cut bc the guy at this Dicks set it up wrong. Needless to say, my entire gift for my husband had to get returned or exchanged because the staff at this location didn’t know what they were doing. If I wanted service like this I’d just go to Walmart.

Love love love this store! Dick’s sporting goods always has great products and they sell absolutely everything I come there for. From althetic clothing, to ammo, to camping supplies and home workout machines. I cannot complain about the variety. This location is kind of strange however because it doesn’t really receive much traffic. Even in the summertime the parking lots seem empty. Its right next door to Water Country in the Marquis shopping center with Target, Best Buy and Kohls. The store is a bit smaller than the one in Newport News and some of their selection is limited. Seeing as it is not as busy as the one in Patrick Henry I would imagine it is more tidy but it’s not. Things are often thrown together. Overall, I really like Dick’s Sporting Goods. I definitely would go to the one in NN rather than this one because the staff members seem much more helpful. This one I find they try to avoid you.

Convenient location and clean/well organized store. I’m a little bit put off by the staff however. I first called to see if they had an item and the salesman that answered the phone had no clue as to what I was talking about and simply said«I’ve never seen that item» without checking to see if they had it. I called another Dick’s store and they did have the item. So I called back, luckily had a different salesman answer the phone, and low and behold they had the item after all. When I arrived at the store I looked around for several minutes without finding the item that I was looking for. I finally flagged down an employee, who quickly directed me to what I was looking for. Bottom line is that the store itself is your average Dick’s– great variety of athletic apparel and equipment, but I think the sales staff need to be better trained to provide a better customer experience.
