Best haircut I’ve gotten in years. I live in Boston but I’m going to start flying to New York and going to Williamsburg to get my hair cut. It’s very difficult to find good hair salons for Asian hair, but now I’ve finally found one.

Good enough for Xiao Wen Ju, good enough for me, and probably you too. Great products, great service, it was $ 65 for a wash/cut/treat for my badly damaged hair. Well deserving of their reputation.

Junko was my stylist, it was the best cut I had in a long time. Everyone is friendly there, place is immaculate. The head massage during wash was also fantastic. So glad I gave this place a try !! Will definitely get my next cut here !!

I have been a user of Unilocal for years and have never ever written a review. But today I came here to write one for the first time, because my experience at Shizen was so special. The shampoo was incredibly relaxing and wonderful. And then I explained to Jinko that no hairdresser knows how to cut and thin out my thick hair. She awed at the hack chop of my last hairdresser. Then she went to work and 40 minutes later she let me feel my hair. And for the first time ever she thinned it out perfectly on the first try. I almost cried tears of joy i was so happy. Also, soooo affordable. I’m never going anywhere else again.

yoko cut my hair. she was lovely and sweet and best of all, totally good at what she does. even though i barely described my hair cut dreams, she got it. highly recommended for both the vibe and the level of service.

This salon is HANDSDOWN, the most bomb diggity salon I’ve ever been to. The space is minimalistic and impeccably clean, the shampoo/head massage is worth the entire trip, and a haircut is definitely reasonably priced. Junko is so talented and really listened to what I was after. All of the stylists seem to be very talented and focused as well.

This place is a stellar hair salon. It’s a uniquely Japanese experience: you’ll feel like you were just getting your hair cut sitting in a lotus position in a zen garden in Japan. I had my hair cut by Aki, who spent some time figuring out what would would work, then did his magic. Great art/style magazines from all over the world, some of the best hair products I’ve seen, friendly folks who know their business. five stars.

I can breathe easy now knowing I don’t have to go back to the west coast every time I need a cut. After my friend’s disastrous attempt to cut my hair I found Shizen on Unilocal and booked an appointment right away. Mia fixed my uneven hair added some much needed texture and gave me great advice on how to keep some volume in my hair with different products. She’s the best and now I’ve found someone to trust with my thin flat Asian hair!

I have been coming to this salon for a couple years now and this is my favorite salon. I have only gotten haircuts here but every single time Aki nails it despite my no-so-descriptive explanation of what I am looking for. The haircut lasts a long time and takes minimal effort to maintain! The ambiance of the salon is very relaxing, and the staff is extremely courteous. They also give a great head massage while they wash your hair. Book your appointment and come here often!

Their website may be down but they have no problem gaining a huge following of clients from all over the world. Every time I walk by here on my way to the subway, I always see their hairstyling booths filled up. I am really particular about who cuts my hair and I am rarely brave enough to try a new stylist. When one of my friends mentioned Jinko at Shizen I knew I had to give them a try. Jinko happened to be available on an afternoon during my same day appointment that I made. When I walked in I was greeted by the receptionist and my leather jacket was hung up behind the desk in plain sight. I was seated at Jinko’s station and she came by super friendly, very soft spoken voice, I told her how my hair felt bulky, she ran her fingers through my hair, made a couple suggestions and I put my full trust in her. Couple minutes later I was led to the hair washing station where I received a wonderful head massage while my hair was shampooed and conditioned. Jinko came back over when I was finished and she cut, styled and blow dried my hair like magic. I am so impressed with my cut weeks later and still holding a great style with minimal effort and it was exactly what I wanted, if not better!

My favorite salon, by far. It speaks to me in more ways than one. Exactly my taste and how I imagine my future home would look like(white interior). Was referred to this salon by a coworker and was super excited to get a trim and some layers. Made a phone reservation a couple days prior and they set me up with Jinko. Ample street parking outside and luckily got a spot right in front of the salon. I came a few minutes early but didn’t have to wait long at all to get a shampoo and head massage by a lovely lady! They used Aesop hair products too which I adore! My stylist really knew what she was doing. And I couldn’t have asked for a better end result. She cut, dried, and cut my hair again before styling it and adding some shine and scent. I felt amazing afterwards! The saddest part of all this is that I live in LA but luckily I do not need a haircut every month. Cant waittttt to come back forever!

My fear of bad haircuts had resulted in a very long, damaged tangle of hair. I was tired of convincing myself that my hair was fashionably long vs. witchy weird-girl long. And after a two-year hiatus of not cutting my hair, I made an appointment at Shizen Brooklyn. The décor is great. Nice, stark white walls. A small ledge of Japanese fashion/lifestyle mags line the wall. Hip, japanese stylists work at their stations. The thing about getting your hair done in Williamsburg, is that sometimes the very hip can be very intimidating and unapproachable(yes, I’m generalizing). But, I didn’t feel this way at all when entering the welcoming atmosphere of the salon. Junko cut and styled my hair. With very little direction, she knew exactly what look I was going for. She did a great job! Nothing too dramatic, nothing too over-styled. Just well cut hair. The price is VERY reasonable for an NYC haircut. Plus, they offer a student discount along with a ‘frequent customer’ card. 10 cuts and the 11th is free — or something to that effect. Thus, my fears of going under the shears were allayed. Thanks, Shizen! I will be back.
