Having just had a very unproductive conversation with John Barone, I feel compelled to share our experience. I’ve shipped a lot of packages around the country. I know the proper way for mailing businesses to price their services is to box and weigh the package, then add that price to the shipping fee. The day we visited this service, it was quite busy. When the owner looked at the contents we were shipping, he said, «that looks like about $ 950. I cringed but we were from out of town and I was in a hurry. I wanted to get my dad’s old military uniform to my brother in Hawaii and get back on the road. So I swallowed hard, told myself it wasn’t worth waiting forever longer and said OK., That was on October 31. My brother notified me that he received the package on December 4! Granted, I should have asked or called before then but I had spinal surgery in November and that package was not foremost on my mind. So I thought I’d call Mr. Barone and find out what happened. Turns out he lost the label and didn’t’ find it till his cleaning lady swept under the counter. «It got there, didn’t it?» he asked. No apology. «Was there an adjustment in price he could make on his service,» I asked. «I don’t know why I should do anything,» was his response. I don’t argue. I just told him I would make my decisions accordingly. As my husband reminded me, we had used another service on Third Street(Washington blvd?) once before when we were in town. A place that actually weighed the package and charged accurately. We certainly will not use John Barone’s service again anytime we are in Williamsport.
